2014 13th District Tournament Preview

By DragonFire - The 13th District was much like the 15th District was this year, in that on any given night you didn’t have the slightest clue who was going to win in a district matchup. #1 seed Logan County swept #2 Russellville but split with both #3 Todd County Central and #4 Franklin-Simpson. Russellville swept the two bottom teams, but lost out on the top seed by virtue of the head to head with Logan County. And Todd County Central needed to win a coin flip to break a tie with Franklin-Simpson for the 3 seed after splitting their regular season games by a combined 3 points. Parity reigned supreme in... Inside 14th Region (2/23/14)

The Patriots will now prepare to face the winner of June Buchanan and Jenkins in the first round of the 53rd district tournament. 2. Cordia (22-7): Much like Knott County Central, the Cordia Lions played just one game in the final regular season week of the 2013/14 season and... Read More →

2014 15th District Tournament Preview

By DragonFire - Do you have a hat? Here’s what you do – write down Allen County-Scottsville, Barren County, Glasgow, and Monroe County on 4 separate strips of paper, fold them up, throw them in the hat. Rustle it around a few times, then pull one out. That method of choosing a champion for this district is almost as likely to produce the correct choice than one based on rational analysis. The district was just all over the place this year. The regular season only served to give us two teams tied for first, two teams tied for third, necessitating coin flips to break each. Preseason favorite and... Read More →

2014 14th District Tournament Preview

By DragonFire - In theory, we should have a pretty good picture of how the 14th District is going to play out. For the first time since 2009 there is an outright #1 (Warren Central) and there is also an outright #2 (Bowling Green). For the first time since 2007 a team went unbeaten in the district (Warren Central). Central beat everyone, Bowling Green beat everyone but Central. Both teams have combined to win every single one of the district tournaments since 1997. Plus, this is the 5th district tourney that has been held at Warren East, and both Warren Central and Bowling Green have won two apiece in... Read More →

2014 40th District Tournament Preview

By Randy Parker - 2014 40th District Tournament Preview Montgomery County will begin its quest to defend the 10th Region title by hosting this year's 40th District Tournament. Jason Holland inherited a talented roster when he replaced Happy Osborne & his Indians will be favored to claim the 40th's top spot again. Montgomery fields the 10th's best starting five & no one can match their athleticism. Having said that, the Indians have not been as dominating as they were a season ago. The gap between the 10th's #1 team & everyone else seems to have narrowed. Second-seeded George Rogers Clark enters the... Read More →

2014 39th District Tournament Preview

By Randy Parker - 2014 39th District Tournament Preview It's deja vu for the 39th District Boys Basketball Tournament, as the 2014 draw came out the same as it did last season. Mason County & Augusta, the 39th's top two squads, will square off yet again in the opening round. Last year's memorable Panthers win has been well-documented, but Chris O'Hearn's Royals savored a bit of revenge with a 17-point pounding of Jason Hinson's team back on December 20th in The Fieldhouse. The Royals have been a consensus top 3 team in the 10th Region for most of the year & boast a front line that will give any of the other... Read More →

2014 38th District Tournament Preview

By Randy Parker - 2014 38th District Tournament Preview On paper the 38th District Tournament seems to be the most open-and-shut when it comes to determining who will take the title. Harrison County has been the 38th's top team all season long & has spent a large portion of the year ranked in the top 5 among 10th Region teams. Larry Kendall brought the title back to Cynthiana in his first head coaching season last year & his roster is easily the most talent laden. Harrison has played one of the most daunting schedules of any 10th Region teams & the competition they have faced this year should make them very... Read More →

2014 37th District Tournament Preview

By Randy Parker - 2014 37th District Tournament Preview The 37th District Tournament is always a dogfight & while some might feel like there will be less intensity this year, we think otherwise. Granted, Bishop Brossart does seem to be a step ahead of the competition. The 'Stangs have held the #2 spot in 10th Region rankings most of the year, most recently grabbing the spot back after an impressive win over Mason County. Mike Code has done sensational work with this Brossart team, who has faced an injury to a key player. The Mustangs have again gone undefeated in District play which is good enough to earn...
