By Randy Parker - Augusta wins a pair Brent Bach & the Panthers were in action twice this past week. Augusta hosted upstart Robertson County in the Panthers Den on Monday night. The Black Devils entered the game having won 9 of their previous 10, but were sent back to Mt. Olivet with a 64-50 loss. Bach was outstanding, scoring 38 points & grabbing 11 boards, hitting 17-22 FG's for the game. Sophomore forward Camryn Snapp also had a double-double with 14 points & 12 boards. By All State Baseball - 1. Johnson Central (17-6): The Golden Eagles continued to show why they are the dominant team in the 15th region by clobbering Pike County Central 65-27 last week. Braxton Blair led the Golden Eagles with 18. Shane Hall added 12 points, 7 boards, 2 asst, 2 steals, 1 block, 3 dunks. Shane Hall got his 200th career dunk in only 16 minutes of playing time. With district play being right around the corner, we take a look at the rankings and recap this past week's action heading in to the final week of the regular season. 9th Region Top 10 1. Newport Central Catholic (24-3) Why: The Breds went 2-0 this week. Newcath 62 Bellevue 27 12 Newcath players got in the box score, led by Jake Schulte's 19 points in the blow out win. By All State Baseball - 1. Apollo (19-5): The Eagles continued to show why they are the top team in the third region with an 80-71 overtime win last week against Hancock County. The Eagles improved to 9-1 in their region. Upcoming games: vs. Madisonville North-Hopkins 2/18, vs. Daviess County 2/25 (District Tourney) 2. Owensboro (16-8): Owensboro picked up another win last week, to inch closer to Apollo, who sits at #1. The Red Devils defeated Bowling Green 69-59 to improve to 16-8. By All State Baseball - 1. Johnson Central (16-6): The Golden Eagles continued to show why they are the top team in the 15th region last week when they won 4 straight games. The Golden Eagles got things started when they defeated Lawrence County 54-32. They had defeated the Bulldogs 69-65 earlier in the year. Shane Hall sit out this game due to the flu. By All State Baseball - 1. Apollo (18-4): Apollo continues to reign supreme on the 3rd region. Apollo currently sits at 7-1 in the region splitting with region favorite Owensboro. The Eagles picked up two good wins last week, defeating Owensboro 79-75, which topped the loss earlier in the year to Owensboro 71-68. The Eagles had four different players to have double-doubles. By Les - Player of the Week Chad Marsee, Knox Central - What a week the sophomore center had for the Panthers. Marsee dominated the action against both Whitley County and Jackson County this past week, recording a double-double in each game. He scored 20 points and 12 rebounds during Knox rCentral's 70-46 win over Whitley County, and he turned in an even better game a couple of days later against red-hot Jackson County. On Thursday night Bryan Wallace scored 17 points & dished out 8 assists as MoCo rolled past visiting Augusta 89-59. Two nights later the Indians put a similar pounding during a visit to North Hardin, coming home with an 86-60 win. By All State Baseball - Another week of Kentucky high school basketball has come and gone with some schools didnít get to play but one maybe two games due to bad weather wreaked havoc throughout the state. 1. Knott County Central (18-6): The Patriots went 3-1 this past week with wins over Cordia 70-61, Jenkins 72-25, Fleming County 73-62. The Patriots only loss came Wayne County 81-77 in the Jock Sutherland Classic over at Lexington Lafayette.
