Inside the 1st Region - Week 6

By silo11 - Not a whole lot changed this week in the region. There was some movement at the bottom of the rankings as Carlisle County is starting to play a whole lot better. Shout out to Christian Fellowship with a 4 game winning streak and a chance to continue that into February. Other than that, the Region 1 All “A” Classic has started and will continue over the next few days. Mayfield is the strong favorite to win and advance to the state tournament this year, but don’t count out Murray completely. Huge game this Friday when McCracken County visits Marshall County. Both teams are contenders... Read More →

10th Region Recap and Rankings - 1/16/17

By mcpapa - A little bit of movement in this week's rankings as a result of last week's action, but nothing earth-shattering. Campbell County remains solidly ensconced in the top spot even after a close call, and the regional All-A tournament told us quite a bit about some of the smaller schools. 1. Campbell County (16-1, 5-1 region). The Camels ran their winning streak to 14 with a convincing district win over Brossart, a big win across the river and a close call against Conner. Bertsch and Hegyi led te Camels with 25 and 16 in the 74-45 decision over Brossart, Hegyi had a big 35 point-effort... Read More →

Inside the 15th Region (1-16-17)

By 15th Region - Overview: It was a week of upsets in the 15th as this region is becoming nearly impossible to rank. East Ridge is your All-A champion in dramatic fashion winning back to back overtime games. Timmy Dalton continues to volley the 1st and 2nd spot in the nation in scoring. It’s getting fun in the mountains as you don’t know what might happen on a given night! 1. Johnson Central (13-4) – The Golden Eagles lost a heart breaker in Magoffin County to open the week despite having a 9 point lead in the 4th quarter but were able to bounce back with quality performances against Paintsville and... Inside the 12th Region (1/16/17)

By SHS Future - 12th Region Basketball This past Monday night a 47th District rivalry game was played in Somerset, Kentucky. The number one team in the 12th Region and 12th ranked team in the BGP state poll, Pulaski County, took on a 4-11 Somerset team that was struggling to finish games and was desperate to turn the season around. Pulaski County has been dominating in 12th Region play with only one team coming within 10 points of the Maroons up to this game. The Jumpers, on the other hand were in need of a spark to lift their team out of a bad slump and a spark they found. Welcome to the big stage 8th... Read More →

Inside the 6th Region (1/16/2017)

By coachlee - LIT week in Louisville is a big thing and this past week history was made for one 6th region team. Fern Creek earned their first LIT championship in 70 years of this long running event. The Tigers had only ever been to one LIT Championship game during this time (2004), so this was a monumental championship for the Fern Creek High School & entire community. Eleven 6th region teams made the 2017 LIT but only 4 scored victories as 7 recorded losses in their openers. Bullitt East and Fairdale each recorded an opening victory while Valley and Fern Creek made the semi-finals with the Tigers... Read More →

Inside the 13th Region (01-16-16)

By Les - 1. Corbin (13-2 overall, 6-0 vs. 13th Region competition) If there were any doubts Corbin wasn’t the top team in the 13th Region then they’re none now after seeing Corbin dominate Harlan County during Saturday’s match-up between the two teams. The Redhounds pulled out a dominating 72-54 win over the Black Bears behind a 31-point, 15-rebound and eight assist effort by junior guard Andrew Taylor, who is averaging more than 30 points a game. Corbin will be tested this week with a road game at Jackson County on Tuesday and a road game at Knox central Friday that is a rematch of an earlier... Read More →

Inside the 9th Region (1/10)

By Walter - Coming in to this season, most figured the 9th region would be pretty wide open outside of the top 2 or 3 teams. That was once again on full display this past week and reflected in this week's rankings. 1. Covington Catholic (12-4) Despite a loss on the road to South Laurel (62-56), the Colonels maintained their #1 ranking with dominant wins over district rival Holy Cross (59-35) and Conner (74-39). Cole Vonhandorf had 20 and 24 point performances in the two Colonel wins, with Aiden Ruthsatz posting 11, 13, and 22 points in the three games this week. AJ Mayer had 20 in the loss to South... By 15th Region - Overview: Lawrence County continues to surprise behind Timmy Dalton, Sheldon Clark looks to get healthy, and Johnson Central is still the team to beat. Let’s see how the rankings pan out after six weeks of play. 1. Johnson Central (11-3) – Johnson Central remains at the top after six weeks of play with two less losses than any team in the region despite dropping two of three in the Henry County Invitational. Mason Blair and Cole Crace lead the way as one of the most dynamic backcourts in the state and with 7-footer Leon Moshefy getting better every day, the Golden Eagles will look to... Read More →

Inside the 6th Region (1/9/2017)

By coachlee - Last week was a Doss Dragon steamroller as they beat the #2 and #6 teams in the region clearly separating themselves from the other contenders. With the Fern Creek loss to Hopkinsville on Saturday, it is also likely that Doss has narrowed the lead as they claw back to the #2 spot challenging Fern Creek for the best team in the 6th region. 1) Fern Creek (14-2)- Good wins over 6th region rivals Butler and Bullitt East, but a bad loss to Hopkinsville. The margin (20) was very surprising. In the LIT they face winner of Fairdale & Western in their first game. 2) Doss (12-5)- Doss... Read More →

10th Region Recap and Rankings - 1/9/17

By mcpapa - A little bit of movement as a result of last week's action as pretty much everybody returned to school and regular-season action. Our top-ranked team continued its stranglehold at the top of the heap, while our number 3 and 4 switched places. 1. Campbell County (14-1, 5-1 region). The early-season loss to Bracken County is a fading memory as the Camels stretched their winning streak to a dozen. Garren Bertsch and Cole Hegyi combined for 50 in an impressive 71-170 win over Mason County. Bertsch added another 25 in a 74-45 romp over district foe Bishop Brossart. Campbell plays a pair...
