12th Region Week 5 Review: Holiday Tournament Week

By TDC - Week 5 was all about holiday tournaments, and most 12th Region teams participated in an event. There was a wide variety, some faced top-25 in-state powers, some traveled out of state, while others played some softer competition. The results were a mixed bag, perhaps the biggest surprise being an 81-79 upset of Madison Central by an up-and-coming young Somerset team who made a strong showing in the Lake Cumberland Holiday Classic and moved up two spots in the rankings as a result. Entering 2019, the 12th Region is still up for grabs but three teams remain a notch above the rest, with... Read More →

Region 8 Week 4 in Review: A New Number One

By ColonelMike - Many thanks for your patience this week....since the Week 5 write-up will come out on Monday, I will keep this week's recap short..... Compared to last year, there's been a shortage of quality wins over ranked opponents outside the region so far. But much can change - the season is long - and the battles within the region suggest a "battle royale" in New Castle come March. This recap reviews the game's played 12/17 - 12/22 and the team's records and game commentary is all based on that period. There's a new Number One... 1 - Collins (9-2), Last week: #3 ( Perhaps nobody... Read More →

16th Region Week 4 Review

By Carson Palmer - Merry Christmas hoop fans. The holiday tournament season is off and running in the Bluegrass State. Teams in the 16th Region continue to fluctuate with the exception of the top top dogs right now Elliott County and Rowan County. The rankings from 3 to 12 continue to be as confusing as the weather in the Commonwealth. 1. ELLIOTT COUNTY (10-1) The Lions suffered their first defeat the hands of highly regarded Christ Presbyterian Academy from Nashville. Korbin Spencer led the Lions to three victories following the defeat in the tournament at Clinton County. The Lions are off until 2019 when... Read More →

1st Region Week 4 Review

By silo11 - The top tier of teams has been 4 for all of this season, one more team has been added. Murray has shown that they can hang and even beat any of those top teams given the right circumstances. Mayfield meanwhile is struggling to match last year’s success while Paducah Tilghman again has no consistency to how they play. Meanwhile McCracken continues its Cinderella season now 9-0 and the team nobody is talking about Graves County is still yet to lose to a team in KY. Things are already starting to heat up in Region 1. Here are this week’s rankings: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin... Read More →

5th Region Week 4 Review: One Team Remains Unbeaten

By Sportslover32 - 1. Larue County (7-2): The Hawks suffered their first loss of the season this week as they won one game and lost two in the prestigious King of the Bluegrass Tournament. They lost to Trinity 67-46, lost to University Heights 68-65, and beat host team Fairdale 78-54. The Hawks who lost twice, still had a solid showing. They lost to a great Trinity team and lost a 50 50 game against a top 10 team in University Heights, so Larue did show they are indeed a very good basketball team. Dailliss Cox had 20 points and 8 rebounds in the win against Fairdale. 2. John Hardin (9-0): The Bulldogs won... Read More →

3rd Region Week 4 Review - New #1

By ApolloFan98 - As Christmas arrives, the region is as wide open as everyone expected heading into the season. Owensboro Catholic started the season with 7 straight wins, but this week showed this region is wide open. Owensboro only has a 6-4 record, but they have played the toughest schedule in the region. As they continue to get their entire roster healthy and gel as a team, you can expect them to be a tough matchup for anyone. 1. Owensboro Red Devils (6-4) – UP 2 Owensboro went 3-1 this week, starting with a double overtime win over Ohio County. Freshman Gavin Wimsatt led the Devils, knocking... Read More →

2nd Region Week 4 Review

By silo11 - Holiday Tournaments are in full swing. For a lot of teams it is the first time this year they will play back to back games, some teams may even have to play twice in the same day. It is hard to judge teams because of this. They may not be quite prepared to play with such turn around games so close. Regardless, UHA saw their first losses of the year and Madisonville had some scares. Only real change on this weeks ranking is Union County moving up a few spots. Here are the rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#3 2018-19 record: 6-2 Week’s Record: 2-2 ... Read More →

14th Region Week 4 Review: A New #1 Emerges and a First Ever loss

By All State Baseball - We’re in the middle of December, which means tournament time, holiday tournaments that is, meaning that few region games will be played. We saw two of the top teams go to war with each other last week as a new #1 emerged in the 14th region. Breathitt County (5-3): What a week it was for coach John Noble and his Breathitt County Bobcats as they picked up a big region win. Breathitt County traveled to Hindman to take on the Knott County Central Patriots in a 3 vs. 1 matchup and what a game it was, as it should be when two top teams go at it. Breathitt County would prevail 81-67 over the... Read More →

6th Region Week 4 Review

By SportsLife - 6th Region Week 4 Review 1. Butler (9-3): The Bears finished runner-up in the Henry Clay Holiday Invitational, posting wins over Dunbar and Bourbon County before falling to the host team. Butler's week also included a victory over Holy Cross. The Bears are prepared to compete in the tradition-rich Ashland Invitational Tournament later in the week. The trio of Maurice Tolley, Jadon Lamb and Willard Minter lead Butler. 2. Jeffersontown (8-3): The Chargers won three of four games in Week 4, defeating Fairdale, North Bullitt and DuPont Manual while losing to Central. Blake Butler,... Read More →

9th Region Week 4 Review: Changes in the top 4 and Stagnation in the middle

By PP1 - A few surprises this week with Beechwood’s victory and Conner’s brain fart. The hardest part was ranking teams 8-11. These four average squads are having a hard time finding any momentum this year and if they resent being referred to as “average” then they have the power to fix it. There is not a lot of action to go watch between now and the new year with the exception of a couple regular season scheduled games and a tournament in Williamstown. After the new year, the 34th district will start to take shape with each team in the district playing one district opponent before the 9th. It may be... Read More →

4th Region Week 4 Review

By DragonFire - 1) Warren Central (6-1) - 12/20 84-40 W Macon County (TN) (at Gatlinburg-Pittman), 12/21 39-57 L Pikeville (at Gatlinburg-Pittman), 12/22 74-47 W Ryle (at Gatlinburg-Pittman) Previous Rank: 1 This Week: 12/27 vs. Moore (at Taylor County), 12/28 vs. TBA (at Taylor County) Central emerged as the final unbeaten in the region just like last year, and just like last year, saw it end in hideous fashion of their second Christmas tournament game. 364 days after putting up only 39 against Oldham County last year in their first loss of that season, they managed only 39 against Pikeville, a... 13th Region Week 4 Review

By Les - 1. South Laurel (9-1 overall, 3-0 vs. 13th Region opponents) The Cardinals were impressive during their stay in the Simon Kenton Invitational Tournament. They recorded wins over Dixie Heights and Scott before beating previously unbeaten Simon Kenton in the finals, 80-67. Senior JJ Ramey had 33 points in the title game, and coach Jeff Davis is also getting solid play out of Matt Cromer, Brett Norvell, Alex Hostettler, Matt Dalton and Landon Wombles while the bench continues to come along. 2. Clay County (11-0, 3-0) Clay County defeated Pulaski County in the semifinals and Southwestern... Read More →

By mooremiller31 - Another week has come and gone in the 11th Region. As has been all year long the top team remains the same and the rest of the region is starting to come together. We are in the middle of the holiday tournament season which means some interesting match ups and statement games for some of the programs in the area. Lets get to it! Team Rankings 1. Scott County (10-0) - The Cardinals continue to roll through the 2018 section of their schedule. This week they picked up 2 blowout victories over Fern Creek and Lafayette, two perinel power programs in our state. Michael Moreno, Diablo Stewart... Read More →

12th Region Week 4 Review: Top Three Teams Showing Separation

By TDC - Week 4 produced a change at the top, as previously undefeated Danville dropped their rematch with Wayne County 51-40 on a neutral site. An argument can still be made for either Danville or Wayne at the top, and Lincoln County is closing fast. There is currently a gap between these top three teams and the rest of the 12th Region, although any of the next six or seven teams have the potential to improve enough to join the group at the top. Holiday Season observations for the 12th Region: · This Region was presumed to be down this year, and it may be, but perhaps not as much... Read More →

7th Region Week 4 Review: A New Number One? Not Yet

By Smallhoops - The 2018 King of the Bluegrass Tournament has come and gone, and it actually raised more questions than it answered, at least in terms of Seventh Region teams. Trinity lost twice, although the injury to David Johnson certainly played a role in that. Ballard lost only to the eventual champion, South Shore from Brooklyn, and its wins included a victory against Trinity. Male went 1-2 in the KOB, its sole victory coming against the host Fairdale Bulldogs. Aside from the KOB, St. X remained undefeated, Waggener continues to play well, and Central has won eight games in a row. So what does... Read More →
