3A Notebook: West Side Story

By gchs_uk9 - Caldwell and Tilghman Secure Meaningful Wins Before District Play When West Side Story was released on Broadway in 1957, it told the story of two rival gangs competing for turf in an Upper West Side neighborhood of New York City. In the play it was the Jets and Sharks looking to control the territory. In Kentucky Class 3A football in 2018, one could say it is the Tigers and Tornado looking to take control. And after three consecutive years of seeing the region trophy go home to Elizabethtown, both Caldwell County and Paducah Tilghman are looking to secure their own passage to the state... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 9/26 - Defense Defines

By ATLCat - The Defense Never Rests Two Touchdowns per game. Meet any Defensive Coordinator and he will tell you that if you can allow just 14 points per game that his Defense is going to put his Offense in position to win any game and deep playoff success is a strong probability. As the sample size for the season finally starts to grow we can get a good indication of which teams are giving their Offense a chance to win the game by simply seeing what teams are under this magic number. For some of the stronger programs such as DeSales and Mayfield will be exceptions to the rule. These are programs... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 9-16

By ATLCat - 1. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 4-0)- Corbin jumps back into action this week in a big way travelling to Clarksville, TN to take on the powerhouses Mayfield Cardinals. This series has been tremendously competitive and expect that to continue. 2. Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 3-1)- Moore was a quality challenge for Johnson Central, but the boys from Paintsville were too strong. District play starts with an over-matched Boyd County team. 3. Belfry Pirates (3A, 3-1)- Belfry got every bit the challenge from Pikeville they were looking for and then some, but the Pirates claimed the big road... Read More →

1A Notebook 9/12 - Churning Butter

By Voice of Reason - Teams are now about one third of the way through their schedules. Almost every team has played at least one game that pushes them out of their comfort zone. If you want to make butter, you need to churn the milk. You have to churn away to get that smooth, refined butter. Teams are churning away at themselves trying to get rid of the sour parts and produce that sweet final product - the product that can get you deep in the playoffs and position you to challenge for a title. Last week a lot of our top teams in 1A did some hard churning. Half of the top ten suffered losses as they tested... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Central Kentucky Power Rankings 9-12-18 Week 4

By PurplePride92 - Another week is in the books and there really wasn’t much movement at all in this week’s rankings. For the most part the top 10 teams took care of business this week. Let’s jump in to this week’s rankings. Top Ten: 1. Scott County(6A, 4-0) Scott County faced Ohio power Archbishop Moeller last Friday night and escaped with a 10-7 victory. This victory has solidified Scott County not only as the #1 team in Central Kentucky but also as one of the top 3 teams overall in the state of Kentucky. Running back Austin Barnett carried the ball for 193 yards and 1 touchdown as Scott County now... Read More → Mr. Football Watchlist (9/12)

The running clock victory didn’t count towards the team’s in-state streak, but puts the Colonels at 4-4 on running clock wins this season. RB Casey McGinness put on show in the game, with 235 all-purpose yards and 4 TDs. QB Caleb Jacob went 11-16 passing for 204yds and 1 TD, and junior TE Michael Mayer led receiving with 5 receptions for 86yds. Class 4A Notebook (9/11): Tiger Down

By DragonFire - If it seems like just a week ago we were bullish on #5 Hopkinsville’s season, it’s because it was just a week ago. The Tigers grabbed a win over Caldwell County, who themselves had already beaten Christian County, Hopkinsville’s next opponent. It seemed possible, even probable, that Hoptown would grab a win over their rival, challenge historical rival Paducah Tilghman, and springboard into district play. That’s all done now. After Hopkinsville started with a 7-0 lead over Christian County, they found themselves behind 8-7 at the half. Then came the season changer – QB Javier Bland... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 9/10- The 2A Stock Report

By ATLCat - Stock Report Now that the dust has settled after four weeks, The Notebook will determine how the stocks of some of the Top 2A Programs are doing and what kind of advisement we might have for the market in it's current state. DeSales- Stock Up, Blue Chip The Colts have done everything asked of them and then some moving to the top spot with their early season work. The Colt Offense is getting the job done and the Defense remains stout as expected. Even with a big battle with CAL looming, a loss does not necessarily mean you will be out in the cold. Take my word, this is a very robust stock... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (9/10)

By Ram - Class 1A It was a separation Friday in Class 1A with some huge games helping to sort the pack. Beechwood may have lost to 3A Corbin, but they still proved they are one of the better small school teams in the State. Pikeville put everyone on alert by dominating Paintsville. Both the Tigers and Panthers take it up yet another notch this week drawing perhaps both team's stiffest regular season opponent. Raceland needed two days to put away a solid 4A Greenup County and Hazard came up short against 2A Somerset. The biggest game featuring two 1A teams will be Paintsville travelling to... Read More →

6A Notebook: Giant Killers!

By Bac2369 - Giant Killers!!! We yet again had nother exciting week of the Kentucky high school football. Class 6A presented us with some Giant Killer matchups in the states best in some eyes when the #1 Trinity Shamrocks hosted the #2 Male Bulldogs. This class also had #3 Scott County at Archbishop Moeller who just recently beat Trinity. This class also had several other intriguing matchup against ranked teams of each class. The #1 Trinity Shamrocks versus #2 Male Bulldogs match up did not disappoint. Trinity got the ball first, but was forced to punt. Male would get the ball after the punt... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (9/9): Spartan Statement

By DevilMayCare - No one is crowning South Warren as the kings of Warren County or 5A just yet. There is still much work to be done. But you've got to admit, the Spartans bludgeoning of Central Hardin has added a new dimension to the optics of the Warren County/5A landscape. Central Hardin gave Bowling Green all they could handle in Week 0. The Purples held a three score lead at the half, but failed to put the Bruins away. Central Hardin put a couple of touchdowns on the board in the 2nd half to make it a one possession game, and actually had the ball with a chance to either tie it up or even take the lead... Louisville Power Rankings 9/10

By TheDeuce - 1. 6A Male (4-0) Despite missing arguably their best player, Henry Vestal, who was unfortunately lost for the year to an knee injury two weeks ago, the Dawgs confirmed their spot on top of the Louisville Power Rankings, defeating 6A Trinity 17-3 Friday night at Marshall Stadium. The Male defense was the highlight of the evening, holding the Rocks to just three points, the lowest point total in Bob Beatty's tenure, and the lowest point total since 1998. Male will travel to 4A Western this week. 2. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (4-0) The Centurions made a quick trip down I-65 to visit... Read More →

Western Kentucky Power Rankings - September 9, 2018

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2018 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 4 Edition Concerning the top story line for this week, CHANGE IS INEVITABLE!!! And it is with that theme and this time in the season where I admit I am pretty dog-gone long-winded on these rankings and I realize folks have very busy lives and don’t have time every week to get through all the items listed in this thread, so we’ll audible formations into a “Popcorn N Coke Version” and “Meat & Potato’s Version” so you can get what you want and move on in the time available to you. Popcorn N Coke Top 10 Version – Week 4:... Read More →

3A Notebook: Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad

By gchs_uk9 - Boyle and Corbin Victorious Over, Central Falls to Highly Ranked Opponents On a night that saw the top three ranked teams in Class 3A play highly ranked opponents from other classes, two teams came away victorious and another went home with their first loss of the season. And still yet it's hard to clearly distinguish who is the favorite in this class. Boyle County Top-ranked Boyle County traveled to Monticello and dominated the Wayne County Cardinals from the get go, taking a 34-0 lead into halftime and romping to a 48-7 victory. The Rebels' attack was balanced, rushing for 213... Read More →
