11th Region Week 5 Review

By mooremiller31 - A week full of holiday tournaments have passed and the season is in full swing. This past week some of the top teams in the region made some statements while others are still trying to find their identity. One team is not only starting to distance themselves from the rest of the region but maybe the state as a whole. Lets get to the rankings! Team Rankings 1. Scott County (13-0) - The Cardinals traveled to Myrtle Beach this week for the prestigious Beach Ball Classic and at the time of this post are preparing to play in the championship game against Westchester, California. During the... Read More →

Rankings are as follows: Rankings (overall record): 1. (-) Shelby Valley (10-1) – Shelby Valley lost their first game of the year, but remain number one as they finished 2-1 in week five. 2nd Region Week 5 Review

By silo11 - Holiday Tournaments have completed and nothing really of note to change. University Heights showed that they are one of the top teams in the state and have establish themselves as a favorite for the All “A” Classic State Tournament coming up later in January. A big game between Madisonville and Hopkinsville is on June 3rd, both teams want to establish themselves as the number 2 team in the region. Here are the rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#3 2018-19 record: 10-2 Week’s Record: 4-0 The Blazers won the championship game of the Traditional Bank... Read More →

5th Region Week 5 Review: Top Three Continue To Impress

By Sportslover32 - 1. Larue County (10-2): The Hawks won all three games and won the Magnolia Bank Holiday Classic. They beat Carlisle County 68-29, beat Bullitt Central 52-50, and beat Southwestern 80-40. The Hawks took care of business and had to win a close game against Bullitt Central to get to the finals. Mark Goode had 23 points and 7 rebounds in the win over Bullitt Central. They can throw so many big bodies at you that it makes it tough for its opponents. This team hasn’t done anything to make you think this team can’t represent the 5th Region in State. 2. John Hardin (12-0): The Bulldogs won all... Read More →

9th Region Week 5 Review: The 9th Represented well in Holiday Tournaments!!!!

By PP1 - We all love this game. We remember coaches and teammates for the rest of our lives. We replay games and even specific plays in our minds as we get older. But alas, it is a mere game. When a member of the basketball brotherhood passes away, even those of us that were not close to him feel the loss. I only knew Bob Burkhart from Starbucks and even then, we never exchanged names. I remember he gave my son a High-Five once and I have read stories about him training young officials and leaving a positive mark in this community. I am reminded of a time when Jesus told a crowd of people “whatever... Read More →

7th Region Week 5 Review: A Tough Week

By Smallhoops - This was not a great week for Seventh Region teams. Teams were spread across the Commonwealth plus Tennessee and Florida playing in Holiday tournaments, and only one escaped without a loss; the Waggener Wildcats went to Pensacola, Florida, and returned as champions of the Crusader Classic. Congratulations to the Wildcats. Every other team that played this week lost at least once, and many lost multiple games. Most teams have not had an opportunity to update their statistics on the KHSAA website, so I am a little light on stats this week. I am hoping teams can catch up on those this... Read More →

1st Region Week 5 Review

By silo11 - No movement this week in the rankings. The top 3 teams all went 2-1 in their respective holiday play. McCracken County lost their first game of the season in a championship game and Graves County suffered their first loss to a Kentucky team. Here is what happened this week around Region 1: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #11 2018-19 record: 11-1 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Mustangs went to Palm Springs to play in the Holiday Basketball Classic. They won the first to games they played against Calvary Day School and the host school Dwyer. However they were unable to... Read More →

4th Region Week 5 Review

By DragonFire - 1) Bowling Green (10-2) - 12/27 78-51 W Murray, 12/28 78-63 W Owensboro, 12/29 62-57 W Graves County Previous Rank: 2 This Week: 1/4 at #10 Greenwood, 1/5 vs. Muhlenberg County Ever since the Purples dropped the house on Glasgow in the second game of the year I've been tempted to move them to the top slot, but a strong run through the holidays has made it clear they needed to ascend. Bowling Green won their Christmas tournament for the fourth straight year against one of the better slates they've faced in it. Murray doesn't have a strong record, but has made a habit of playing good... Read More →

14th Region Week 5 Review: A Holiday Nightmare

By All State Baseball - We've reached the halfway point of the 2018/19 basketball season. The time of the season where everyone opens up Christmas presents and spends time with their families except for basketball teams, they are usually on the road heading to out of state tournaments for the most part. Several teams stay in state for in state tournaments. As much talent and tremendous teams the 14th region has, this holiday season hasn't been too kind to the 14th region. One might say it's even been a nightmare for the 14th region this holiday season, with that being said, let's look back at week 5. The 14th... Read More →

Going into 2019... NO bad days, and MOST will be fun!

By ChiefSmoke - As hard as I try to stay positive, some days it is a battle. To help in that fight, I decided in December of 2017 that I would chart every day in the 2018 prep season ( I hate the expression "offseason". We have to improve on a day to day basis throughout the year.) If it was a good day, I would list the date with a "+". A bad day would get a "-". A great day would get "++". Those results are listed at the bottom of this blog and there were no bad days! I know Coach Cox and Coach Harris got tired of it, but I really enjoyed showing them periodically how we were doing. So what was a... Read More →

12th Region Week 5 Review: Holiday Tournament Week

By TDC - Week 5 was all about holiday tournaments, and most 12th Region teams participated in an event. There was a wide variety, some faced top-25 in-state powers, some traveled out of state, while others played some softer competition. The results were a mixed bag, perhaps the biggest surprise being an 81-79 upset of Madison Central by an up-and-coming young Somerset team who made a strong showing in the Lake Cumberland Holiday Classic and moved up two spots in the rankings as a result. Entering 2019, the 12th Region is still up for grabs but three teams remain a notch above the rest, with... Read More →

Region 8 Week 4 in Review: A New Number One

By ColonelMike - Many thanks for your patience this week....since the Week 5 write-up will come out on Monday, I will keep this week's recap short..... Compared to last year, there's been a shortage of quality wins over ranked opponents outside the region so far. But much can change - the season is long - and the battles within the region suggest a "battle royale" in New Castle come March. This recap reviews the game's played 12/17 - 12/22 and the team's records and game commentary is all based on that period. There's a new Number One... 1 - Collins (9-2), Last week: #3 ( Perhaps nobody... Read More →

16th Region Week 4 Review

By Carson Palmer - Merry Christmas hoop fans. The holiday tournament season is off and running in the Bluegrass State. Teams in the 16th Region continue to fluctuate with the exception of the top top dogs right now Elliott County and Rowan County. The rankings from 3 to 12 continue to be as confusing as the weather in the Commonwealth. 1. ELLIOTT COUNTY (10-1) The Lions suffered their first defeat the hands of highly regarded Christ Presbyterian Academy from Nashville. Korbin Spencer led the Lions to three victories following the defeat in the tournament at Clinton County. The Lions are off until 2019 when... Read More →

1st Region Week 4 Review

By silo11 - The top tier of teams has been 4 for all of this season, one more team has been added. Murray has shown that they can hang and even beat any of those top teams given the right circumstances. Mayfield meanwhile is struggling to match last year’s success while Paducah Tilghman again has no consistency to how they play. Meanwhile McCracken continues its Cinderella season now 9-0 and the team nobody is talking about Graves County is still yet to lose to a team in KY. Things are already starting to heat up in Region 1. Here are this week’s rankings: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin... Read More →

5th Region Week 4 Review: One Team Remains Unbeaten

By Sportslover32 - 1. Larue County (7-2): The Hawks suffered their first loss of the season this week as they won one game and lost two in the prestigious King of the Bluegrass Tournament. They lost to Trinity 67-46, lost to University Heights 68-65, and beat host team Fairdale 78-54. The Hawks who lost twice, still had a solid showing. They lost to a great Trinity team and lost a 50 50 game against a top 10 team in University Heights, so Larue did show they are indeed a very good basketball team. Dailliss Cox had 20 points and 8 rebounds in the win against Fairdale. 2. John Hardin (9-0): The Bulldogs won... Read More →
