1A Notebook 8/28 - We May Be Little But...

By Voice of Reason - The top teams in Class 1A made a point last week. So many times it is said that the little school should not beat the big school. Well, anyone who thinks that had better not read on - because you won't like what happened with the top teams in 1A last week. The top teams in 1A almost all played teams in higher classes last week. Several of those bigger school opponents were also ranked. That did not matter at all to the 1A schools. In games where a 1A team played a team from a larger class, the 1A schools won 8 and only lost 3. Take that big guys! 1A Tops the Big Guys Leading the way on... Read More →

Class 6A Notebook 8/28: Top 4 undefeated: only 5 others remain unbeaten

By thsrocks - Last week’s prediction threads saw the BGP faithful successfully chose 4 out of 6 winners. Pleasure Ridge Park surprised Bowling Green 35-21 and Tates Creek was defeated by Douglass 49-22. Trinity, Male, Scott County, and Simon Kenton held up their end of the bargain and met the BGP expectations. Two weeks in and Class 6A has only 9 of 33 teams undefeated. Sixteen 6A teams lost to lower division Kentucky teams in the first two games: 2A-6, 3A-1, 4A-1, 5A-8. Six lost to 6A only (Henry Clay, Bryan Station, Tates Creek, Lafayette, Boone County, and Meade County). Two lost to out of state... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (8/28)

By Ram - Class 1A Only two weeks into the season and a pecking order is already shaping up. Everyone knew Beechwood and Hazard would be in the picture, and following a pair of quality wins over 5A Harlan County and 2A Lloyd Memorial they have confirmed that appointment. The mystery is starting to unravel as to who may be able to challenge them. Kentucky Country Day and Paintsville have both opened the season in an impressive manner and have a chance to cement their contender status with tough games. Louisville Holy Cross has probably been the most pleasant surprise and they have a chance to make a... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (8/28): The Defense Begins

By DragonFire - While much of 4A’s rankings crashed and burned a week ago, Johnson Central enjoyed their usual “Week 0” bye week and took it all in from high atop their 4A summit. Last year’s defending champions did not enter with an overly long win streak thanks to a regular season loss to Belfry, but did enter with wins in their opening game of every season since falling to Boyle County in the 2010 season opener. For that matter, Johnson Central has not lost before the last game of the regular season in any season since 2012. So there was a pretty good chance that Matney’s Golden Eagles squad would come... Class 2A Notebook 8/28- An Impressive Showing Against The Largest Class

By ATLCat - The Butler Win Did It DeSales is no stranger to playing 6A teams. They have made a habit of taking on the State’s largest classification during their sensational run over the past decade. When DeSales took down 6A Ballard in their season opener it caught everyone’s attention, still yet fans of the Colts tempered expectations waiting to see how their team would fare against a Butler team that had began to get some Top 10 consideration. The Colts found themselves in a good ole fashioned tug of war in what would be one of Friday’s most exciting and well played games from across the State.... Read More →

1A Game of the Week: 1A #8 Louisville Holy Cross at 2A #4 DeSales

By Bac2369 - It's that time again - time for the annual battle of small school bragging rights in Louisville. In week 2 we shall see 1A Louisville Holy Cross play at Louisville DeSales. Taking a look back at recent history of this match up the win loss record is kind of one sided. If you are familiar with this series then you should know Holy Cross hasn't beaten DeSales since 2010. The last win before that takes us all the way back to the 4 class setup in 2006. In the past 11 years DeSales has won 9 times and is currently holding a 6 game win streak over Holy Cross. So we can say DeSales has owned... Read More →

Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 08/27/17

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2017 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 1 Edition The top story line this week is an unprecedented losing streak by our Top 10. In the 3 years I’ve been doing this, I don’t think we have ever had a week where 6 of the Top 10 saw defeat in the same week! MANY angles here, but I feel at least most of them are fielding younger squads. Also think all will be better in the long run for scheduling well. BUT this means BIG shakeups in our Top 10 Power Rankings! Let’s get right to it! Week 1 Top 10: 10) Greenwood (5A) – Preseason Rank: 7 - 2017 Record 1-1;... Read More →

3A Notebook: Corbin Clips Alcoa to Move to Head of the Class

By gchs_uk9 - With Sizemore Out Front, Redhounds Power to Victory and Top Ranking In 2016, Corbin averaged 37.6 points per game en route to a 12-2 record and a second consecutive appearance in the Class 3A state semifinals. While the offense has yet to hit those inflated targets from last year, on Saturday night Coach Justin Haddix's Redhounds picked up perhaps the biggest win in his four year tenure with a 22-21 overtime victory over fifteen time Tennessee state champions Alcoa. Game two of the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic was a defensive struggle throughout. Alcoa finished with 216 total... Read More →

5A game of the week 9-1-17: 5A #5 Fern Creek at 3A # 4 Central

By Pete W - Fern Creek (2-0) is at Central (2-0) in the first meeting of the Tigers and Yellowjackets since the 2000 season opener at Fern Creek, when Central won 20-0. The 2017 season began with unfamiliar territory for Central, former Coach Scroggins stepped down and his replacement, Head Coach Marvin Dantzler is new to Louisville coming from Oklahoma and Louisiana. Central has adapted well with the change. Central won a defensive battle on the road at Manual, then struggled early offensively at Western then got it together in the fourth quarter with 13 unanswered points for the win. QB Rico... 2A Game of the Week: 2A Mayfield vs. 3A Paducah Tilghman

By DevilMayCare - The annual meeting between Mayfield and Paducah Tilghman is one of the oldest and best rivalries in Kentucky high school football. However, it's lost a bit of its statewide appeal lately because of its one sided nature as of late. The Cardinals are riding an 11 game winning streak over PT. That's the longest streak for either team in the history of the series. The Blue Tornado have not tasted victory since an 18-15 triumph in 2005. That recent surge by Mayfield has given them a slim 47-46-10 lead in the all-time series. This year's edition is hard to get a read on for a couple of... Read More →
