1A Notebook 10/13/15 - District Shuffle?

By Voice of Reason - Last week was a calm one in 1A. Everything went true to expectations with the only top ten team to lose being #8 Fairview, who lost to #2 Paintsville. This week should be a little more interesting with some key district battles happening that could shuffle the rankings and playoff lineups. Who will be the winners and losers this week in 1A? The #1 ranked Beechwood Tigers should have no problem continuing their winning ways. This week's opponent, the 5-3 Ludlow Panthers, might be their toughest district opponent but Beechwood is still a big favorite. Beechwood's defense finally got it done... Read More →

By ATLCat - 10. Corbin (3A, 4-3)- Redhounds got a much needed rest and now turn their focus on a massive EKY matchup. 9. Pikeville (1A, 5-2)- With the District locked up the Panthers continue to gear down for a playoff run. Expect Pikeville to coast until the Regional Finals. 8. Bell County (3A, 6-1)- The Bobcats are playing good football and went on the road to beat a solid larger classification Tennessee school. More on them further down. 7. North Laurel (5A, 8-0)- As expected the Jags continue to cruise along and an undefeated regular season is imminent. Will the lack of a test though hurt... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook: History Repeating Itself?

By ATLCat - CAL Does It Again For the third straight year Christian Academy- Louisville took down 2A Heavyweight DeSales in the regular season matchup. The Centurions Defense reigned supreme and shutout DeSales 16-0 behind a Clay Davis Touchdown Reception and a huge 104 yard Interception Return for a TD by Milton Wright. Neither team reached 200 total yards in a physical war. With the win, CAL all but locks up the #1 Seed in District 4. DeSales will most likely take their show on the Road in Round 2 to whoever wins this week's matchup between District 3 Rivals Monroe County and Glasgow. If the... Read More →

Class 4A Football Notebook (10/12): Playoffs Coming Into Focus (mostly)

By DragonFire - This week we will pass the midpoint of October, and suddenly there are only three weeks left in the regular season. Many districts have started to have their playoff picture come into focus, while a few are still quite clouded. District 1 is pretty cut and dry, as we expected it to be. #7 Hopkinsville continues to roll, gaining a 42-8 victory over Logan County to improve to 7-1. They have yet to score less than 21 points this season, and have topped 42 points four times. This week they will play a district title game against surprising 4-3 Calloway County, which played themselves into... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Football Rankings (10/12)

By Ram - Paintsville proved they are near the top by winning their first district game in the Super District of Class 1A. Can they beat Raceland? That is the big question on a lot of minds right now. Beechwood is getting better each week and may be peaking at the right time of year. Pikeville, Raceland and Russellville are just waiting for their chance to prove where they belong in a top heavy class. We know what Paintsville did against Fairview last week. Now we will get a better read on the East when Raceland takes their shot at Fairview. In Class 2A Mayfield has returned to the number one... Read More →

3A Notebook: Best Teams, Biggest Games, Boldest Predictions

By gchs_uk9 - This week's 3A Notebook is coming from the shores of Destin, Florida. With many schools taking fall break either this week or last, and with many teams enjoying bye weeks leading into or just inside of district play, I thought it would be a good opportunity to look at district races and the current state of the class. For each of the eight districts we will declare a best team, search for the biggest game, and toss out a bold prediction that is sure to go wrong! District 1 Best Team Caldwell County has cemented itself as the team to beat in the district, and likely the region, with... Read More →

1A Notebook 10/5/15 - How Will it End?

By Voice of Reason - With district play now in full swing, it is only natural to start looking ahead. The picture is clearing up on who the true title contenders are. There are some big district games coming that will help answer the questions about how good some of these teams are. As we go through this week's lineup, let's think about what each teams playoff prospects look like right now. Beechwood opens district play against Bellevue, the team that has been their chief rival in the 6 class era. This game doesn't look pretty after Beechwood annihilated Newport last week, a team that beat Bellevue earlier in... Read More →

Class 4A Football Notebook (10/5): Finally An Upset

By DragonFire - FINALLY. We finally have an interesting, unexpected result to talk about. After weeks of static ranks and expected results, we got a curveball this week. That came courtesy of Collins, which whitewashed #4 Franklin County 23-0. Perhaps it was the rain. Perhaps Collins took it a bit personally that they’d slipped out of the top 10 after falling to Spencer County the previous week. Whatever it was, it was an interesting result that shook up that district race and the rankings. Franklin County entered the game averaging 41 points per game and had not scored less than 20 points in a game... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (10/5) - The Status Quo

By Ram - Not many surprises in Class 5A this week. There was only one loss by the Top 10 teams, #6 Christian County fell to #3 Owensboro, not exactly unexpected. #1 Bowling Green cruised as expected, as did the other Top 10 teams. This past week, actually only saw one loss by the top 15 teams in Class 5A, the aforementioned Christian County loss. Bowling Green, coming off a lopsided win, will have the week off preparing for another run to the Championship Game. But, in the way of that goal, is two quality teams: Greenwood and McCracken County. Will the Purples run the table on the regular... Read More →
