2015 10th Region Tournament Preview

By Randy Parker - 2015 10th Region Region Tournament Preview Mason County's historic Fieldhouse is again the site for the 10th Region Tournament. Aric Russell's Campbell County Camels claimed last year's crown and could very well cut the nets again, but judging by regular season standards, the favorite is host Mason County. The Royals largely plowed through the 10th Region from the season's outset until now, earning 15 wins and a big fat zilch in the loss department. Paris and Pendleton County enter as the most surprising District champions out of the 40th and 38th Districts, respectively. Harrison County... Read More →

Inside the 15th Region - Regional Touranment Edition

By 15th Region - 15th Region Tournament Overview: It’s always great to see the banners from all the school’s (past and present) hanging in the East Kentucky EXPO Center in March. It lets us know tournament time is upon us and that all the hard work from summer conditioning and travel ball, to mid-season film study, to District tournament pregame walk throughs has paid off. This year’s field should make for an exciting week of basketball as we preview each match-up, but before we get to the 15th Region Tournament, let’s revisit our District Tournaments and see what we got right and what we got wrong.... Inside the 8th Region 3-1-15

By ColonelMike - The Region tournament is finally here, and six teams return from last year, with two newcomers. It will be hard to match the drama of the 2014 tournament, won by South Oldham. Last year's tourney featured six games decided by 8 or fewer points, and three of those went to overtime, including South's 60-57 win over Simon Kenton in the finals. Only Oldham County's 13 point win over Henry County in the first round had a double-digit margin - and even that game was no cakewalk for the victors. The 29th district has won the last four titles....and no team outside the "current" 29th and... Read More →

Faiview's Superintendent, Bill Musick Resigns, Again.

By Ram - The article appeared in The Independent, but is not available online currently. Fairview's Superintendent, Bill Musick resigned for the second time in less then two years. Fairview was fined and heavily penalized by the KHSAA for the playing of ineligible player(s) which forced the resignation of Head Coach Nathan McPeek and the demotion of High School Principal, AD and assistant coach Gary McPeek to elementary PE teacher (both left the state following the sanctions). Musick also resigned after the sanctions were handed down by the KHSAA, but later rescinded his resignation and the... Read More →

Inside the 8th Region 2-26-15

By ColonelMike - Hated to miss last Sunday's update, but wound up working...ugh. COMING UP IN THIS SPACE....analysis of all 8 teams headed to New Castle for the annual classic, the 8th Region tournament. For those unaware....the 8th Region is the longest-tenured region tournament in Kentucky at its current location. The 8th began playing in New Castle when the current gym was opened in 1963. It's been there ever since. It's become such a revered tradition that - a few years ago when Henry County HS performed some major renovations, amid serious parking concerns - they kept the tourney there,... Read More →

In this article there will be a recap on the season and a look on how close the Top Ten Preseason rankings compared to the Final rankings. At the end will be Awards for individual players and Coach of the Year. The season started with a bang when Doss beat PRP in the opener for both teams in a 62-61 thriller. PRP came from down 13 with less than 2 minutes to go and almost came back but fell short. Could the season have been different had PRP posted the win? Doss went on to post an 11-0 record against... Inside the 9th Region (2-23-15): District Tournament Preview

By Walter - It's finally that time of the year...it's cold outside but the gyms are about to heat up as the post season has arrived and we are now at the point of the season where you either go hard or go home. In this week's edition of "Inside the 9th Region" we will preview each district tournament, post the final 9th Region poll, as well as hand out some awards for regular season play. Inside the 13th Region 2-23-15

By Les - 1. Knox Central (16-11 overall, 10-2 vs. 13th competition) The Panthers hold on to the top spot after slipping past Jackson County this past week, 67-64. This I do know — if you’re going to try and run with the Panthers, the odds are, you’re going to lose. Knox Central used a fast-pace tempo to wear down the Tigers during Tuesday’s win, and it worked. Matt Barger showed he is the best point guard in the region by dictating the pace and scoring 23 points while Chad Marsee added 23 points and 12 rebounds. Jeffrey Adams came off the bench and hit two key three-pointers, but the unsung heroes... Read More →

Inside the 15th Region - Season Review/Awards/57th, 58th, 59th, 60th District Preview

By 15th Region - 15th Region Overview: The regular season has come and gone and with it everyone's record is reset. Tournament time is here but before we break down the region district by district, let's recap the basketball season the 15th Region saw. Injury and illness seemed to plague the best teams in the region. Johnson Central saw the worst of it early by losing Senior PF Truman Salyer for the year to a football injury before the season began, Kyle Gullett to an ankle injury in the 3rd game of the season (missed 8 games), Patrick Rice (Morehead State University signee) for 6 weeks due to a... 37th District Tournament Preview

By Randy Parker - 37th District Tournament Preview The Campbell County Middle School is again the site for the 37th District Tournament, where Brad Carr's Scott Eagles are the top-seed. Campbell County, the defending District and Regional champs, claimed the #2 seed and will square off with bitter rival Bishop Brossart, the #3 seed. Silver Grove and Calvary Christian find themselves in familiar positions as the #4 and #5 seeds, respectively. The 37th is typically a dog-fight, and we don't expect that to change in 2015. Scott went through the regular season undefeated in district play, thanks in... Read More →

38th District Tournament Preview

By Randy Parker - 38th District Tournament Preview The 10th Region's newest home floor, Robertson County High School, will be the site for the 2015 38th District Tournament. One of four districts in Kentucky that uses a blind draw for its postseason, the 38th actually looks more like a seeded tournament than a drawn tournament this year. Harrison County and Pendleton County are opposite one another after having squared off in the opening round the last 3 seasons. This year, the Thorobreds will face Nicholas County, while the Wildcats take on the host Black Devils. Harrison County, the two-time... Read More →
