Inside the 6th Region (1/20/15)

By GoHardITP - We have completed games almost at the mid point of the season and here in the 6th region we also have the most recent performance of teams from last week's LIT which hosts the best of the 6th & 7th regions in a mid season invitational. This body of work gives ample opportunity to provide the rankings which are slightly changed from last reporting. Interesting of note is that during LIT week, (3) Region Six teams made the Elite Eight to (5) Region Seven teams. The semi-finals were even with (2) from both regions, and of course the champion, Ballard, was from Region 7. That indicates a... Read More →

Is Covington Catholic really that good a job?

By East Raider - For most High School football coaches looking at Cov. Cath, is it really that great a job? Let me start by acknowledging that Cov. Cath is in fact a very good job relative to most in KY...BUT then let me also present these obstacles that may show that its underbelly leaves a lot to be desired. Problem 1: It's a private school. That means you're giving away years when it comes to retirement. It also means you're not going to have great salaries (usually). This nix'es a lot of good potential candidates. Problem 2: Highlands. You can't get away from them. Their feeder system is... Read More →

Logen Thovsen, Reid Rowsey, and Tanner Evans have been great complimentary players to Conner Gauze and Bobby Anderson this season. The Lions tangle with Lewis County and arch rival Ashland this week. 1A.Rowan County (14-4) Justin Graham continues to light up the scoreboard for the Vikings. He poured in 33 in a game last week. Inside the 9th Region (1/20)

By Walter - In last week's edition of "Inside the 9th Region," I stated that there was one elite team and two really good teams that were likely closer to one another than the #1 team...and this week we now know that couldn't have been further from the truth. Let's get right in to it as we review this past week's action. Top 10: 1. Covington Catholic (13-4) Why: The Colonels went 2-1 this week but knocked off the previous #1 team in the region to take control of the top spot in the 9th Region. Inside the 13th Region (1-19-15)

By Les - The more things change, the more they stay the same. There isn’t many changes this week to the Top 10 in the 13th Region. Two-time defending 13th Region champion Clay County remains unbeaten against 13th Region teams, and survived a battle on the road against South Laurel, winning in overtime, 82-79. Williamsburg remains the lone team undefeated team in the state while North Laurel continues to struggle after losing to both 49th District foes, Oneida Baptist and Jackson County. The Jaguars did receive some good news this past week, as Isaiah Collier won his appeal. Collier averaged more... Read More →

By DragonFire - The Favorite Monroe County (17-2) - The Falcons enter this All A tournament as the #1 ranked team in the 4th Region. They're the only team left undefeated in region play, and have won 6 straight and 10 of 11 entering their semifinal game on Thursday. Momentum-wise, they almost feel like an overwhelming favorite. Monroe is led by Dillon Geralds, one of the best scorers in the entire region. He has averaged nearly 18 points per game over 17 games, and can play in the post or outside. He is complemented by Lincoln Arnett, Gibril Summers, and John Geralds, all of which average between... Read More →

Inside the 10th Region (1-19-15)

By Randy Parker - Augusta claims school's first Class "A" title The last 3 or 4 seasons have perhaps been the finest ever in tiny Augusta's boys basketball history. The most elite player in school history, Brent Bach, donned the orange and black, and brought attention and success like never before. A 39th District Tournament runner-up, followed by a pair of 39th District championships, and an appearance in the 10th Region semifinals a season ago? Not bad for a school with an enrollment that barely eclipses 100. For those who felt Bach's departure would bring an end to the success, they thought wrong.... Read More →
