8th Region Week 5 Review: Collins Still #1 After Rough Week for Region teams

By ColonelMike - The last week of the calendar year is typically when teams head off to some out of town place for three days of tournament competition. It's a great environment, a tremendous opportunity to pick up a trophy or two, and a chance to build friendships and memories. But if winning proves elusive, then sometimes it's not so much fun. Last year, the 8th Region teams truly enjoyed the tournaments in the final two weeks of the season. Walton-Verona did extraordinarily well in the King of the Bluegrass....Oldham County won the Pegasus Sports Best in infinitum. This year...well,... Read More →

Jeffersontown (10-4): The Chargers finished 2-1 in Week 5, claiming back-to-back wins in the Jean Schumm Operation Parent Classic at South Oldham High School, beating Holmes and Dixie Heights after falling to North Oldham. By Les - 1. South Laurel (12-1 overall, 4-0 vs. 13th Region opposition) The Cardinals are winners of 12 straight after posting a 3-0 record in the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge. They were able to capture two Tournament titles during Christmas Break, and will face-off against Harlan County for the second time this season on Saturday during the Raymond Reed Classic. 2. Clay County (14-0, 4-0) The Tigers are rolling, and look quite impressive. Glenn Gray’s squad hasn’t lost yet this season, and added another tournament championship after winning the Cumberland Falls Invitational... Read More →

3rd Region Week 5 Review: Wide Open

By ApolloFan98 - With the Holiday Tournament season in the books, this region looks as wide open as ever. While last weeks #1 Owensboro doesn't quite have the record of a top team, their strength of schedule is by far the toughest of any other team in the region. Middle of the pack teams like Muhlenberg, Butler County and Ohio County all had a very good holiday tournament season. Expect these rankings to continue to be fluid from week to week. 1. Breckenridge County Tigers (11-2) UP 2 The Tigers have now won 7 straight games and picked up 2 holiday tournament trophies along the way. This past week... Read More →

16th Region Week 5 Review

By Carson Palmer - The Christmas break barrage of games is history. Elliott County took the week off but still remains atop the region rankings. Rowan County is still unbeaten and teams 3-12 continue to fluctuate from week to week. 1. ELLIOTT COUNTY (10-1) Greg Adkins may have this Christmas break hoop marathon figured out. He gave his Lions a week off to recharge their batteries and not play six games in 10 days. The Lions will jump back in action at home against Lewis County Thursday. 2. ROWAN COUNTY (14-0) The Vikings dominated an inferior field to win a tournament at Williamstown. Mason Moore and... Read More →

11th Region Week 5 Review

By mooremiller31 - A week full of holiday tournaments have passed and the season is in full swing. This past week some of the top teams in the region made some statements while others are still trying to find their identity. One team is not only starting to distance themselves from the rest of the region but maybe the state as a whole. Lets get to the rankings! Team Rankings 1. Scott County (13-0) - The Cardinals traveled to Myrtle Beach this week for the prestigious Beach Ball Classic and at the time of this post are preparing to play in the championship game against Westchester, California. During the... Read More →

15th Region Week 5 Review: No Undefeated Teams Left

By 15th Region - Overview: Johnson Central brought home their second tournament win of the year and third to the region, Shelby Valley suffered their first loss, Paintsville continues to roll and the 2A Classic is set to tip off for regional teams. Rankings are as follows: Rankings (overall record): 1. (-) Shelby Valley (10-1) – Shelby Valley lost their first game of the year, but remain number one as they finished 2-1 in week five. 2nd Region Week 5 Review

By silo11 - Holiday Tournaments have completed and nothing really of note to change. University Heights showed that they are one of the top teams in the state and have establish themselves as a favorite for the All “A” Classic State Tournament coming up later in January. A big game between Madisonville and Hopkinsville is on June 3rd, both teams want to establish themselves as the number 2 team in the region. Here are the rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#3 2018-19 record: 10-2 Week’s Record: 4-0 The Blazers won the championship game of the Traditional Bank... Read More →

5th Region Week 5 Review: Top Three Continue To Impress

By Sportslover32 - 1. Larue County (10-2): The Hawks won all three games and won the Magnolia Bank Holiday Classic. They beat Carlisle County 68-29, beat Bullitt Central 52-50, and beat Southwestern 80-40. The Hawks took care of business and had to win a close game against Bullitt Central to get to the finals. Mark Goode had 23 points and 7 rebounds in the win over Bullitt Central. They can throw so many big bodies at you that it makes it tough for its opponents. This team hasn’t done anything to make you think this team can’t represent the 5th Region in State. 2. John Hardin (12-0): The Bulldogs won all... Read More →

9th Region Week 5 Review: The 9th Represented well in Holiday Tournaments!!!!

By PP1 - We all love this game. We remember coaches and teammates for the rest of our lives. We replay games and even specific plays in our minds as we get older. But alas, it is a mere game. When a member of the basketball brotherhood passes away, even those of us that were not close to him feel the loss. I only knew Bob Burkhart from Starbucks and even then, we never exchanged names. I remember he gave my son a High-Five once and I have read stories about him training young officials and leaving a positive mark in this community. I am reminded of a time when Jesus told a crowd of people “whatever... Read More →

7th Region Week 5 Review: A Tough Week

By Smallhoops - This was not a great week for Seventh Region teams. Teams were spread across the Commonwealth plus Tennessee and Florida playing in Holiday tournaments, and only one escaped without a loss; the Waggener Wildcats went to Pensacola, Florida, and returned as champions of the Crusader Classic. Congratulations to the Wildcats. Every other team that played this week lost at least once, and many lost multiple games. Most teams have not had an opportunity to update their statistics on the KHSAA website, so I am a little light on stats this week. I am hoping teams can catch up on those this... Read More →

1st Region Week 5 Review

By silo11 - No movement this week in the rankings. The top 3 teams all went 2-1 in their respective holiday play. McCracken County lost their first game of the season in a championship game and Graves County suffered their first loss to a Kentucky team. Here is what happened this week around Region 1: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #11 2018-19 record: 11-1 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Mustangs went to Palm Springs to play in the Holiday Basketball Classic. They won the first to games they played against Calvary Day School and the host school Dwyer. However they were unable to... Read More →

4th Region Week 5 Review

By DragonFire - 1) Bowling Green (10-2) - 12/27 78-51 W Murray, 12/28 78-63 W Owensboro, 12/29 62-57 W Graves County Previous Rank: 2 This Week: 1/4 at #10 Greenwood, 1/5 vs. Muhlenberg County Ever since the Purples dropped the house on Glasgow in the second game of the year I've been tempted to move them to the top slot, but a strong run through the holidays has made it clear they needed to ascend. Bowling Green won their Christmas tournament for the fourth straight year against one of the better slates they've faced in it. Murray doesn't have a strong record, but has made a habit of playing good... Read More →

14th Region Week 5 Review: A Holiday Nightmare

By All State Baseball - We've reached the halfway point of the 2018/19 basketball season. The time of the season where everyone opens up Christmas presents and spends time with their families except for basketball teams, they are usually on the road heading to out of state tournaments for the most part. Several teams stay in state for in state tournaments. As much talent and tremendous teams the 14th region has, this holiday season hasn't been too kind to the 14th region. One might say it's even been a nightmare for the 14th region this holiday season, with that being said, let's look back at week 5. The 14th... Read More →

Going into 2019... NO bad days, and MOST will be fun!

By ChiefSmoke - As hard as I try to stay positive, some days it is a battle. To help in that fight, I decided in December of 2017 that I would chart every day in the 2018 prep season ( I hate the expression "offseason". We have to improve on a day to day basis throughout the year.) If it was a good day, I would list the date with a "+". A bad day would get a "-". A great day would get "++". Those results are listed at the bottom of this blog and there were no bad days! I know Coach Cox and Coach Harris got tired of it, but I really enjoyed showing them periodically how we were doing. So what was a... Read More →
