Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 10-4-15

By ATLCat - 10. Corbin (3A, 4-3)- Redhounds pummel hapless Jackson County and move to a BYE. The path to Pineville gets a little more anxious. 9. Pikeville (1A, 5-2)- Panthers secure a huge 56-28 win over District rival Hazard and all but lock up the District Title. The next few weeks should allow for rest before a playoff push. 8. Bell County (3A, 5-1)- Bobcats continue to push forward after their early season spill against 3A's best team. Bobcats get one last challenge to gear up for Corbin travelling to a solid Campbell County, TN team. 7. North Laurel (5A, 7-0)- Jags just continue to win by... Read More →

3A Notebook - Pirates Sink, Devils Stunned, and Two Unknown Unbeatens

By gchs_uk9 - Belfry Undone by Turnovers, Cabell-Midland One thirty-second advertisement for this year's Super Bowl will cost around $5 million. For Belfry on Friday night, thirty seconds might not have cost them millions, but it probably did cost them the game. On a night when seemingly nothing could go right at West Virginia powerhouse Cabell-Midland, the Pirates were still in the ball game just before halftime, trailing 21-7 but driving. However, an interception with 1:30 left gave Cabell-Midland the ball and they scored with 32 seconds on the clock to make the lead 28-7. Belfry then fumbled the... Read More →

Panthers on the prowl

By DevilMayCare - As most of you are aware, it rained on Friday. It rained in the morning. It rained in the afternoon. It rained at night. Football fields all across eastern Kentucky, and for that matter, the eastern United States, were a soggy mess. But we're not going to let a little rain ruin our Friday night football, are we? I'll bet the Russell Red Devils woke up this morning wishing all this rain would wash away the memories of last night's loss to district foe Fleming Co. The Panthers walked into Henry R. Evans Stadium a considerable underdog in the eyes of most. They walked out with an 18-7... Read More →

1A Notebook 9/29/15 - Districts Preview Time

By Voice of Reason - We have reached that point in the season when district play begins. Teams have played their pre-district schedule and hopefully have prepared themselves for district play. Let's take a look at the new districts and who we think the winners will be in each district. I am listing each district's teams in the order of expected finish. District 1 Russellville ... 5-1 Crittenden County ... 4-2 Fulton City ... 1-5 Fulton County ... 0-6 Russellville is ranked in the top 5 in 1A and is the clear favorite in this district. It was looking like Crittenden County might be a solid challenger but... Read More →

Louisville Area Power Ranking 9-28-15

By Bert - 1) Male High School (6-0, defeated Butler 57-0) – Another pounding by Male. Next week versus PRP should be a little better, well just a little better. 2) Trinity High School (5-1, defeated Jeffersontown 51-0) – Fairly predictable. Next week versus X, Trinity will be favored but this is a game that could escape them like last year or I could see Trinity winning by multiple touch downs. 3) St. Xavier High School (4-1, defeated PRP 21-13) – Was not expecting this to be such a close game. If this X team or the one that lost to Central shows up Friday against Trinity, X will lose by... Read More →

Class 4A Football Notebook (9/27): This Class Needs Some Chaos

By DragonFire - It seems like many of our 4A headlines are about the relative lack of movement in the class and ranks, and this week is no different. The class has by and large stabilized, with only minor movements. The top four in the rankings has remained the same since Week 1. Scott has now nestled into the 5th spot, and spends their second straight week there. In all, nine of the top ten teams remained the same, and seven of them are in the exact same spot this week. The closest we came to introducing a bit of instability came via District 4, which had four of our top ten teams last week. #4 ... Read More →

That’s another solid performance out of Lloyd, who will be looking to un-seat district rival Newport Catholic once the playoffs roll around. ... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Football Rankings (9/28)

By Ram - Is Paintsville or Beechwood #1 in Class 1A? That is the agonizing question for our rankings team this week. Beechwood holds on to #1 again this week. But for how long? Raceland and Russellville flip spots this week, but was Raceland more impressive than Russelville? Or did Russellville just deliver a lackluster performance? Other than Raceland and Russellville, all Class 1A rankings this week echo last week's. DeSales remains atop the Class 2A rankings this week. But there are still strong arguments to be made that Mayfield should be the #1 team. Teams in 2A performed as expected this... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (9-28): Who's Getting it Done at the Half-Way Point

By Ram - After the half-way point of the season it appears the top teams are clearer. For the third week in a row, the top 5 teams in Class 5A are going to say the same and the top 10 teams are pretty secure. This week, we do have one match up that could shake things up a little: #3 Owensboro vs. #6 Christian County. Will Owensboro be able to prove they are the number three team in Class 5A? Or, will they be exposed by a very good Christian County team? Bowling Green will have a slow week at the office, facing an outmatched Grayson County team. This may the week the Purples work on some... Read More →

Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings Week 6

By ATLCat - 10. Corbin (3A, 3-3)- The Hounds dropped their third straight game, but it was a pretty strong showing against a very good Mayfield team. As predicted Corbin struggled through a 3 game stretch of intense competition, but at the same time Corbin fans have to feel pretty good as they have shown great improvement. Jackson County should give the confidence spike needed heading into their huge war with Bell County. 9. Pikeville (1A, 4-2)- Speaking of confidence builder the Panthers put 68 on South Floyd and nursed a few bumps and bruises heading into essentially their District Championship... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook (9-28-15): Putting The Puzzle Together

By ATLCat - We now venture into the heart of District Play where the games matter most for playoff seeding. This past weekend's slate helped put two very important corner pieces in the place as we begin to piece the 2A Playoff Puzzle together, we also had some other questions answered as well through a few high profile Non-District games. Owensboro Catholic Aces Test With respect to the other teams in the District, Owensboro Catholic essentially claimed the District Title in District 2 with their impressive 53-14 seal clubbing of #9 Butler County. Ray Zuberer tossed for 337 yards and 6 TD's and... Read More →

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2015 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 5 Edition Concerning the top story line for this week: Rain, Rain go away! Everyone will be in District play by this week’s games! Popcorn N Coke Top 10 Version – Week 5: 1. Bowling Green 5A (5-1): Win 42-6... Read More →

The Lexington/Central Kentucky Power Rankings – Sept. 27 Sponsored by Jess-105.9

By Bluegrasscard - The Lexington/Central Kentucky Power Rankings – Sept. 27 Sponsored by Jess-105.9 The Rankings 10) Henry Clay (6A / 3 – 2 / Streak 1L / Next Opp: Pulaski County) The Blue Devils lost Lafayette 48 to 34 this past week. They stay in the ranking but only because the likely replacements were having bad weeks. Henry Clay is a good team but they are not currently in the top of the 6A pile as losses to St. X and Lafayette show. The Blue Devils have a tough stretch in their schedule that starts with a strong 5A Pulaski County team and then district games against Scott County, a surging... Read More →

3A Notebook - Caldwell County Takes a Big Step

By gchs_uk9 - Caldwell Beats Tilghman, Stakes Claim to Tops in Region I On opening night, Caldwell County found themselves unranked. The Tigers, a steady presence near the top of Class 2A for the last several years, were making the move to 3A and were something of an unknown, having to replace several key players including Mr. Football Elijah Sindelar. What a difference a few weeks make. After losing their opener to Christian County late, Caldwell (5-1) has reeled off five consecutive wins and will likely now find themselves ranked in the top four in Class 3A. That position was cemented with a 48-27... Read More →

1A Notebook 9-23-15 - Losses but No Gains

By Voice of Reason - Last week there were some big games in 1A. Three of the top 5 in the rankings took it on the chin. Those losses gave us more insight into how 1A might shake out as the year goes on. Despite the losses to some top teams, none of the teams ranked lower were able to make any gains in the rankings. Some of that was due to the losses being to high quality opponents. Some of that was due to the teams wanting to move up did not make a strong enough impression in their games to move up. Our top ranked Beechwood Tigers lost in rather clearcut fashion to their neighborhood rival 5A Covington... Read More →
