Inside the 15th Region (12-31-14)

By 15th Region - The first month of the basketball season has come to a close and with it Week 4 in the 15th Region is in the books. After Christmas the 15th Region saw teams compete in the Lake Cumberland Holiday Classic, the Pikeville Invitational, the Mountain School Boy Classic, and the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic. Oldham County Colonels 10-1 after defeating Aiken, OH (5-2) today in Lexington, the Colonels had a tremendous December, and - even if they lose to #1-ranked Trinity tomorrow - will pretty much have staked themselves as the team to beat in New Castle in March. By Region 1 Basketball - Huge statement win for the Murray Tigers beating Marshall County @ Marshall. Calloway still is the consensus #1 but Murray is starting to challenge that. Murray has been the early positive surprise and Marshall County has been the opposite. They have lost 4 straight. Mayfield has looked good after getting their football players in the mix. By All State Baseball - 1.Taylor County (9-0): The Cardinals remained undefeated this past week and continued to show why they are the team to beat in the 5th region. One of Taylor County’s win was a barnburner against Wayne County in the King of the Bluegrass. By All State Baseball - 1.Owensboro (6-1): The Red Devils took their unbeaten streak not only into Christian County but also into the King of the Bluegrass Tournament at Fairdale. As of now, Doss has been the only team to upset the Red Devils and that came in the King of the Bluegrass. By 15th Region - The Pre-Christmas Tournaments and Showcases have been completed and week 3 is in the books for 15th Region. Pike Central won the Hi Tech Signs and Graphics Tournament (defeating fellow 15th Region participant Prestonsburg in the championship) while Pikeville and Betsy Layne both had good showings in the Derby Classic in Raceland. Shelby Valley struggled in the Gatlinburg-Pittman Invitational going 1-2 while Johnson Central went 1-2 in the Kentucky Bank Challenge (playing 3 games in a 24 hour period). Inside the 10th Region (12-22-14)

By Randy Parker - Campbell, Augusta fall and bounce back Three 10th Region teams entered last week's action undefeated and two of them ended the week with a blemish. Augusta got its first loss out of the way on Monday night in a trip to Falmouth. Pendleton County utilized a 19-7 run to end the first half up 14 points. The Panthers rallied and got to within 3 in the third quarter, but could not get any closer and the Cats came away with a 78-70 win. By All State Baseball - As Christmas arrives, team are participating in tournaments not just across the bluegrass but across the nation as well. 1.Knott County Central (8-0): The Patriots continue to dominate everyone in their path. The Patriots picked up three wins this last week with one of them being against defending state champions, Covington Catholic in the Rowan County Challenge. First half would be close throughout but the third quarter would be what sealed it for KCC when they went on to a 21-7 run during the third quarter on their way to a 78-66 thrashing of the Colonels. By All State Baseball - 1.Taylor County: The Cardinals continued to dominate the 5th region and show that they are the top team until someone knocks them off as they picked up two wins last week, both by nearly 30 points apiece. Taylor County will look to continue their dominance this week as they will take on Bethlehem and Green County. 2.Bardstown: Despite being 3-3 on the season they are still the defending region champs and they are undefeated in the region so far at 3-0. By All State Baseball - 1.Owensboro: The Red Devils continued to show why they are the top team in the third region this past week as they picked up two more wins and remained undefeated at 5-0. One of those wins was a 69-59 win over rival, Owensboro Catholic. 2.Muhlenberg County: The Mustangs picked up two nice wins last week over Breckinridge County and Ohio County. Dujuanta Weaver came down to earth after dropping 30 on PRP last week, but continues to lead his team. The depth of this team will make it hard for most teams to stop any particular player in hopes of an upset.
