10th Region Player Profile: Shawn Johnson

By Randy Parker - 10th Region Player Profile: Shawn Johnson- 6'7" Sr. (Mason County) Mason County's Shawn Johnson is one of those players that you watch during the course of a 32-minute game and there's really nothing that stands out--nothing that screams, "This guy is one of the best players around." Then you take a look at the stat sheet after the game and you notice Johnson's final tallies: 21 points and 17 rebounds, going 9-11 from the floor and 3-4 from the free throw line. And you say to yourself, "I didn't realize he played that well." But that's what you get from Johnson--not much in terms of the... Read More →

10th Region Player Profile: Bryan Wallace

By Randy Parker - 10th Region Player Profile: Bryan Wallace- 6'0" Sr. (Montgomery County) Bryan Wallace came to Montgomery County last year from Shelby County and did not disappoint. As a junior the 6'0 guard was the Indians #2 scorer, behind the amazing Omar Prewitt, and seemed to have a knack for stepping up when the spotlight shined its brightest. In a 10th Region Tournament semifinal contest with Bishop Brossart, Wallace scored 21 points in helping his team to a convincing 16-point victory. When Montgomery arrived at Rupp Arena for just the second time in school history, Wallace averaged 17 points in... Read More →

What you'll find are a handful of highlight videos, and to be honest you may not find the majority of them Sportscenter Top 10 worthy, but that really isn't the point of this exercise. What you'll see in the clips is visual confirmation as to why the Bishop Brossart big man is one of the 10th Region's elite individual performers. You'll the the Trentman follow-up rebound dunk. By The Scribe - For the first time in five years, there are major changes in store for the alignment of the First Region. The creation of McCracken County caused the 14 schools to be aligned closer to geographical lines. All four Paducah schools are now in the Second District, with St. Mary leaving the Third District and Community Christian exiting the Fourth. The Third and Fourth Districts will now be three-team districts meaning the regular season champ gets an automatic trip to the region tournament by virtue of being seeded into the championship game of the district. Graves County is the... Read More →

10th Region Player Profile: Brent Bach

By Randy Parker - 10th Region Player Profile: Brent Bach- 6'1" Sr. (Augusta) There are two photographs, taken almost exactly one year apart, that best tell the Brent Bach story up to this point in his high school basketball career. The first one was taken on February 23, 2012 and shows a distraught Bach lying face down on the gym floor of "The Igloo"--the home of the Bracken County Polar Bears. The picture captures Bach's obvious disappointment after scoring 27 points, but missing a putback basket at the buzzer that would have given his Augusta Panthers an improbable 39th District championship win over... 2013-14 Kentucky High School Basketball Preview - 2nd Region

By The Scribe - Last year, Hopkinsville was one of the more overwhelming favorites to win the region in recent memory. After a near-upset to Madisonville in the semifinals of the region, the Tigers handled Henderson County to claim the region title and advanced to the state final four. The Tigers return senior big man Jaqualis Matlock and add guard Quan Poindexter from cross-town rival Christian County. Henderson County and Madisonville both return key players to challenge Hopkinsville. The two wildcards are University Heights and Caldwell County. The Blazers will benefit from several transfers... 2013-14 Kentucky High School Basketball Preview- 9th Region

By Walter - When it comes to 9th region basketball, there is almost always never any guarantees. Last season the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds and Cooper Jaguars came in as the preseason #1 and #2 teams in the region. Newcath ended up as All “A” Classic state champions and finished with a 30-3 record but were bounced from the region tournament in the first round. The Cooper Jaguars set a school record with 24 wins and 6 losses, winning 16 of their final 18 games, but were eliminated in the region semi finals on an overtime 3 pointer. That brings us to the #4 team in the coaches preseason... Read More →

2013-14 Kentucky High School Basketball Preview - 11th Region

By JokersWild24 - Ranking the 11th: 1. Scott County: Another year, another preseason #1 for Billy Hicksí Scott County Cardinals. With a few familiar faces returning in Trent Gilbert, Tony Martini, Seth Crank, and Dylan Portwood joining forces with newcomers like 7í0 Raekwon Long and smooth wing Teddy Ware, the Cards look to return to Rupp. One of the great unknowns for this team is who will be running the point against some of the more tenacious pressure defenses that the 11th will throw out. 2. Lexington Catholic: It seems as though itís been awhile since the Lexington Catholic Knights and Scott... Read More →

Inside North-Eastern Kentucky Playoffs (11-25-13)

By Ram - Raceland 14 Pikeville 3 What happens when you get two high powered offenses together for a “Big Stakes” playoff game? A defensive battle, that’s what. Apparently both Raceland Coach T.J. Maynard and Pikeville Coach Chris McNamee know how to prepare for a good offense. Pikeville came in to this game averaging 48 points per game with a thousand yard rusher, a thousand yard receiver, and a thousand yard passer. Raceland came into this game with a thousand yard rusher, a thousand yard passer, and several receivers that have had the ball spread around to them. What happened? Neither... Read More →

2013-14 Kentucky High School Basketball Preview - 16th Region

By Randy Parker - Preview by: spindoc Ranking the Teams 2013 season in review: Wow is all you can say about the 16th region tournament last season. Just some great performances and great team wins. Many thought Fleming the favorite, with Ashland a close second. Russell had many in it's corner, and you could never count out Rowan County. Some solid games in the first round, but no real upsets with the possible exception of Rowan over Morgan. Then the semis saw Rowan upend one of the favorites Russell by the score of 53-50 and Fleming flex over Ashland to set up a 61st district battle for... Read More →

2013-14 Kentucky High School Basketball Preview - 15th Region

By All State Baseball - Johnson Central (22-11): Johnson Central won the 15th region championship last year defeating Sheldon Clark 59-48. Johnson Central would go on to the KHSAA State tourney where they would face off against Ballard in the first round. That game didnít go well as Ballard won 75-54.
