By All State Baseball - 1.Johnson Central survives Shelby Valley 65-62 In a huge 15th region showdown between two of the top 5 teams, Johnson Central was able to survive the Shelby Valley Wildcats and come out with a 65-62 win Tuesday night at Shelby Valley. The Golden Eagles led by 3 going into the second quarter at 18-15 and would go on to win the second quarter by 1 at 21-20 making it 39-35 Golden Eagles at the half. By All State Baseball - 1. Knott County Central outlasts Hazard 51-48 A game that most people thought, Knott Central would win by 10+ was the exact opposite as the Patriots would win by 3, 51-48. Knott Central would win quarters 1 (17-10) and 3 (14-13)….Hazard would win quarters 2 (15-9) and 4 (13-11). Knott Central was led by Camron Justice who led all scorers with 27. By Les - Player of the Week Boys Tyler McDaniel, Clay County — The junior guard has averaged 14 points per game this past week, including a 20-point effort to lead Clay County to an 81-55 win over Fort Knox. Surprise, surprise? We’ve got Clay County sitting atop the 13th Region with an impressive 7-1 mark while Bell County and Barbourville are 6-2 on the season. Many were ready to write the Bobcats off after they began the season with an 0-2 mark. They dropped a 64-61 decision to Whitley County at home and were blitzed by Jackson County, 90-63. By JokersWild24 - PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Raekwon Long, Scott County: The 7’0 big man couldn’t seem to stay out of his own way in the first two weeks, racking up fouls so quickly that he had no choice but to watch from the bench. This week, however, was a different story, as he had 11 points in 3 consecutive games in the Woodford County Invitational. After cruising to a first round victory over St. Patrick the Royals focused their attention on the Augusta Panthers in a rematch of last year's much-talked about 39th District Tournament game in which the Panthers were victorious. By The Scribe - First Region teams fared well in various holiday tournaments over the weekend, with Paducah Tilghman playing for the championship of their own 69th annual Christmas Tournament Monday. Graves County and Calloway County went unbeaten at the Graves County shootout, which keeps them 1-2 in this week’s First Region rankings. 1. Graves County (8-0) – The Eagles went 4-0 in their own Eagle Holiday Classic, with three of the wins coming against Tennessee schools. By All State Baseball - 1.Apollo and Hancock County remain perfect APOLLO (3-0) For the third consecutive year, Coach Steve Sergeant’s Apollo Eagles have started the season undefeated. Apollo got two wins this past week, defeating Daviess County 61-49 and defeating Seneca 63-50 in the Louisville Hoopfest at Iroquois. Clay County has taken on all-comers, and the Tigers have shown they can take a punch.
