By JokersWild24 - PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Raekwon Long, Scott County: The 7’0 big man couldn’t seem to stay out of his own way in the first two weeks, racking up fouls so quickly that he had no choice but to watch from the bench. This week, however, was a different story, as he had 11 points in 3 consecutive games in the Woodford County Invitational. It would appear that his 11 points against Eastern, Dunbar, and Bryan Station, are a sign that bigger and better things are still to come from this prodigy. By Randy Parker - #1- Royals Roll Mason County hosted the Mike Murphy Classic this past week & Chris O'Hearn's team established itself as a bona fide contender in the 10th. After cruising to a first round victory over St. Patrick the Royals focused their attention on the Augusta Panthers in a rematch of last year's much-talked about 39th District Tournament game in which the Panthers were victorious. By The Scribe - First Region teams fared well in various holiday tournaments over the weekend, with Paducah Tilghman playing for the championship of their own 69th annual Christmas Tournament Monday. Graves County and Calloway County went unbeaten at the Graves County shootout, which keeps them 1-2 in this week’s First Region rankings. 1. Graves County (8-0) – The Eagles went 4-0 in their own Eagle Holiday Classic, with three of the wins coming against Tennessee schools. By All State Baseball - 1.Apollo and Hancock County remain perfect APOLLO (3-0) For the third consecutive year, Coach Steve Sergeantís Apollo Eagles have started the season undefeated. Apollo got two wins this past week, defeating Daviess County 61-49 and defeating Seneca 63-50 in the Louisville Hoopfest at Iroquois. Clay County has taken on all-comers, and the Tigers have shown they can take a punch. Powered by the play of Chip McDaniel, Trey Farmer, Wes Wolfe and Jake Allen, Clay County has beaten the likes of South Laurel, Corbin and North Laurel. After earning their 18th consecutive win against Region competition, a 60-46 victory over Paris, the Indians traveled to Madison Central on Friday & trailed well into the 2nd half. Lawrence County 80 Magoffin County 64 Bulldogs traveled to Salyersville to take on Magoffin County region game that would turnout to be a 16 point win for Lawrence County. Morgan beat upstart East Carter in the semi's to get to the final, but the game of the tourney was the semi of Fleming/Rowan. Sound familiar? Well it ought to, and will be. By Getslow - Players of the Week Quentin Snider, Ballard He won't be on here every week, I promise, but he deserves this one. The Bruins played four games in the first week of the season. In Monday night's opener against No. 8 Scott County, Snider had 32 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and six steals. He followed that with a 28-point game against Seneca, 26 against Arsenal Tech (IN) and 18 versus Moss Point (MS).
