Louisville Area Power Ranking 08-23-15

By Bert - 1) Trinity High School (defeated Ensworth TN 45-0) – While the Ensworth team Trinity beat was not as historically strong as previous year’s teams, it is still Ensworth. So Trinity winning in such convincing fashion will keep the Rocks ranked number one. Next week, Brentwood TN 2) Male High School (defeated Floyd Central IN 41-0) – Many will say a victory over a Southern IN school is not that impressive but 41-0 is pretty impressive so Male stays #2 . Next week Ballard. This game will test how good these two top five Louisville teams are. 3) St. Xavier High School (Idle) – While X did... Read More →

Bluegrasspresps' Football Rankings 8-24-15

By Ram - Off and running, and week 1 is here! In 1A, the biggest change is Frankfort slipping from #6 to #1 0 after losing to Paris on Saturday. Will QB Anthony Robinson out with an injury, will Frankfort be able to stay in the Top 10? But questions are arising after #2 Raceland allowed two kickoff returns for touch downs. Are the Rams just shaking off the cobwebs? Or are Special Teams an Achilles heel for Raceland? Pikeville remains #5 this week, despite beating 2A Prestonsburg 43-6. Should Pikeville be ranked higher? Hard to justify when both #3 Paintsville and #4 Russellville beat 3A... Read More →

Northern Kentucky Power Rankings 08-24-15

By Colonels_Wear_Blue - 10) Newport Central Catholic (2A / 0-1) – The Thoroughbreds came out sloppy and flat in their season opener last week, losing to Scott 7-8. New Cath struggled on offense, with stud running back Jacob Smith out, and junior QB Patrick Henschen struggling to find his receivers. Their defense was their definite strength in their first game, but as everyone knows, it’s offense that wins games. The Breds face a major challenge this week taking on the Cooper Jaguars this Friday. The Jags will be riding high coming off their huge win over Highlands last Friday. New Cath needs to have all their... Read More →

6A Notebook 8/23

By CoachBuckett - 6A Notebook The 2015 Kentucky High School football season kicked off with a lot of excitement across the state. We had our typical blowouts and a few nail biters. We even had a few last minute heroics. But the talk of 6A football in Kentucky is Cooper and their dominating win over Highlands. Cooper picked up the biggest win of their program Friday night and has become the talk of NKY football. Cooper was led by their QB Nathan Brown you went 7 of 18 for 186 yards with 2 touchdowns. Question for Cooper coaching staff this week, can they get refocused as they travel to take on 2A power... Read More →

Collins uses 68-yard bomb to defeat Montgomery County 7-0

By newarkcatholicfan - The games first drive started off horribly for Montgomery County. Two drops by Dillon Akers and a quarterback running for his life. That first drive was kept alive when a mishandled punt attempt was picked up by punter Dalton Stevens, who then went for a long gainer. From there the Indians would run eight more plays, but they were unable to score. With 4:59 left in the fast paced opening quarter, Collins ran a run up the gut on 3rd and 17. Drew Mathis would stop Quinton Murphy ten yards short of the marker. The last notable play of the quarter was when Chase Parker sacked JR Lucas for a... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook (Week 1)

By ATLCat - The resounding theme of Week 0 was for 2A teams to step out of class for Non-District openers against quality opposition. A total of six of the 2A Top 15 started their season with a loss as a result. Tests Passed As expected both #1 Mayfield and #2 DeSales stepped up in class and rolled in dominating fashion. Danville, Leslie County, Somerset, and Butler County also followed suit by playing schools of larger enrollment and vanquishing their opposition in very convincing fashion. Tests Failed It was not as kind of a season opener though for several other schools looking to stretch... Read More →

Paris with big win to kickoff season over Frankfort, 21-12

By newarkcatholicfan - This was a game that was competitive all away around, where it did appear the better of the two teams won. The things that both things shared was their poor tackling all night lobe. I do not think it was from lack of effort, but dag it was there for some reason. The game started out with a bang when, Mathew Smith fielded the opening kickoff at the six and streaked up field, not stopping until he had hit pay dirt. The two point try failed. 6-0 Frankfort 11:46. Paris got lucky when Brian Cruz recovered a Kobe Garrard fumble, with 10:59 left in the quarter. Garrard is the starting... Read More →

Class 3A Notebook (8/23)

By gchs_uk9 - Class 3A got off to an exciting start on opening weekend seeing two of the preseason top five garner big wins over ranked 6A opponents. Boyle County won the opening game of the Fort Harrod Bowl at Mercer County, defeating 6A #9 Central Hardin. The third-ranked Rebels had allowed a late Bruins score but stopped the ensuing two-point conversion attempt that would have forced a tie and likely sent the game into overtime. While there was much chatter on BGP leading up to the game, with some on both sides predicting lopsided victories, most would assess the matchup as even and will pinpoint... Read More →

Elizabethtown dominating win over West Jessamine, 46-6.

By newarkcatholicfan - The night started great for Elizabethtown and as poorly as a season can for West. The opening kickoff was fielded by, Bernell Cecil(5-9-175) at the one , all he did was flash some speed as he took in to the house to give E-Town the early lead. The point after kick by Peyton Payne, went about fifty-yards but was no good,6-0 E-Town 11:46 left in the opening quarter. West trying to establish a running game was stopped short on a third and three play, with 9:50 left in the first but a face mask call on the defense, moved the chains. West could not mount anything and had to punt the ball away... Read More →

East Jessamine rides offense to opening season win over Harrison, 38-33

By newarkcatholicfan - The Bowl got started with a bang on Friday night and when all was said and done a Jessamine County team had posted their first win, in this bowl game. Coming into this game the talk was this was a game Harrison would win and do so fairly easy. the problem was someone never sent East Jessamine the memo. 10:44 showed on the clock when A Harrison player put he ball on the ground in a big pile of players and coming out of the pile was a East player. The guys in the booth nor myself could see, who coughed it up or who recovered it. East would get a nice run by Kyle... Read More →

South Warren Spartans Don't Miss a Beat!

By Doubletake1906 - After many questions about how the South Warren Spartans would adjust to the speed, strength, size, etc of teams in 4A, all those questions have been answered following South Warrens dominant 44-12 win over John Hardin (Preseason #1 in 4A). The Spartans have not missed a beat since their State Final 4 run in 3A last year. Returning virtually every starter from last season, the Spartans were ,by far, the more disciplined, more physical, and more athletic team on the field. Their entire arsenal was on full display! South Warrens defense has been the most dominant defense in the State over... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (8/23)

By Ram - Wow, big shocker to start the 2015 season, number one ranked Highlands takes a loss, not only a loss but a loss to a Kentucky team, not only a loss to a Kentucky team, but a loss to a Northern Kentucky team - Cooper. Cooper has built a good program in a short time of existence, but not many expected them to beat Highlands in their first attempt. Is the sky falling in Fort Thomas? How will the Blue Birds recover from starting the season 0-1? Bowling Green started another winning streak this week, beating Monroe County pretty handily even thought Monroe County is expected to have a good... Read More →

Pikeville gets another quality game against 5A Letcher Central in the Pike County Bowl. 9. Raceland (1A, 1-0)- Rams were not in the form expected of them against a 3A West Carter team that has tempered expectations around them.Rams can quickly make a statement this week with rival Ashland. 8. Russell (3A, 0-0)- Devils were idle but hopes are extremely high after a very impressive scrimmage slate. County rival 4A Greenup County should be a favorable draw. 7. Bell... Read More →
