Meeting Coach Tony Dungy

By ChiefSmoke - On Wednesday, 3/9, I had a once in a lifetime experience I will never forget. I got to meet Coach Tony Dungy. This is the way it happened..... I first experienced All Pro Dad Day at Mason County Intermediate School in the fall of 2014 with Trosper. All Pro Dad is Coach Tony Dungy's program which is part of the larger organization, Family First. When I became the Random Drug Test Coordinator at Mercer County Schools, I wanted to start All Pro Dad Day here. Matt Stanfield, the Principal at Mason County Intermediate, helped to point me in the right direction and we were able to start a... Read More →

Transfers impacting Regional Champions

By Wildcatfan25 - As I was looking over the Sweet 16 bracket, I was struck by how many teams have impact players who have transferred into the schools who will be at Rupp next week. Just going in order of the games played: Buckhorn (Don't know of any but not well educated on Buckhorn) Murray - Zach Flener (formerly of West Jessamine. Transferred when his dad got a position in the district) Trinity (no idea but probably a safe assumption there are several transfers on their roster. Newport Central Catholic (ditto for Trinity above) Read More →

The Very Premature 2016-17 2nd Region Outlook

By WKY - 2016-17 Projected Team Rankings 1. Webster County - The Lady Trojans return every player except Hallie Gibson from the team that nearly upset Henderson County to earn a trip to NKU. The best shooting team in the region comes back next season even better and favorites to win it all. 2. Henderson County - The Lady Colonels from up north lose Samantha Carter and Mikayla Gilbert but return the best player in the region in Alisha Owens and shooter Emma Lander. A school the size of Henderson County doesn't rebuild, they reload. 3. Christian County - The southern Lady Colonels return their... Read More →

11th Region Season Recap, Awards and Championship game Preview

By Wildcatfan25 - Some Random thoughts before handing out some imaginary awards: • Would have been interested to see how good Bryan Station would have been with a healthy Dishman all season. • Impressive coaching job by Nate Valentine at LCA to have success with mostly freshmen and sophomores. If Trevor Hill and Tre King had been consistent, LCA would have had a realistic shot to make the region for the first time ever. • Disappointed with Frankfort this season. The senior heavy team failed to make the regional for another year. • I don’t think anyone realized just how bad of shape Tates Creek was... Read More →

Second Region Tournament Preview

By The Scribe - The Road to Rupp has been a one-way street between Lexington and the Eighth District over the past 15 years. Since 2001, Hopkinsville, University Heights, or Christian County has been the Second Region rep at the Sweet 16. There’s a good chance that streak extends to 16 this year. Christian County (26-2) has been the top-ranked team in the state for most of the season and hasn’t lost to a Kentucky school all season. The Colonels rolled to their first district title in six years, holding off Hopkinsville for the third time this year. Christian County opens play in the region... Read More →

Region 1 Tournament Preview

By silo11 - Graves County vs Marshall County These two teams met twice during the regular season. In the first game the Marshalls kept it close but still fell 53-48. The second meeting was all Graves as they soundly defeated Marshall 60-35. This game should probably be more like the fist than the second. Graves is definitely the favorite in this game and should win, but Marshall County is a scrappy team that plays very hard. They have been in most of their games this season and if they can stick around they can pull the upset. Graves has been prone to an upset as was proved earlier this year... Read More →

By Les - The brackets are set, and now let the games begin. The 13th Region Girls Basketball Tournament draw was held Saturday at The Arena, and one thing is for certain — Derrick Akal's Harlan County Lady Green Dragons will enter as the favorite to cut down the nets Saturday night. The Lady Green Dragons sport the best overall record (24-4) and record against 13th Region teams (14-2) while riding a five-game win streak that includes a 75-56 win over rival Harlan County during this past Friday’s 52nd District championship, and is led by junior guard Jordan Brock, who is averaging 20 points a game.... 13th Region Preview

By Les - Conventional wisdom coming into the 13th Region Tournament draw on Saturday was tournament favorites South Laurel (24-6 overall, 13-2 vs. 13th Region opponents) and Clay County (23-7, 15-3) both wanted to draw away from each other, and that’s what happened. The Cardinals and the Tigers are in opposite brackets, and the hands on picks to reach the region title game Monday, March 7. With that said, South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said that any team could catch fire and win the region championship. “I like my team,” he said. “But I also know they’re seven other teams that are very good, too. Region 7 Tournament Preview & Regular Season Awards and recap

By ball_coach_4 - Louisville Central (District 25 Champs) vs Ballard (District 28 Runner-up): Central has had an up and down year, marred by injuries, and a key player becoming ineligible after the break. Coach Bibby seems to have them clicking now at the right time. They breezed through their district tourney, blowing out Portland Christian and Manual. They started the Manual game slow and was down 7 at the half, and them limited Manual to 1 field goal in the entire second half to win by 19. Ballard has surprised and been Ballard again all year. They had a big year winning the LIT, and have been in... Read More →
