By coachlee - Dating back to 2011, there has been repeat 6th region champions in consecutive years by three different programs: Bullitt East (2011 & 2012), Pleasure Ridge Park (2013 & 2014) and Doss (2015 & 2016). Last year Fern Creek started their opportunity to continue that repeat streak by winning the 6th region in 2017. At least 4 other teams have a good shot to stop Fern Creek from being the fourth in line of that streak of repeat championships in the 6th. That list begins with Doss, Butler, PRP, and Fairdale but Fern Creek has their eyes set on continuing the trend. Jeffersontown is a long shot... Read More →

By 24Bricks - 16th Region Tournament Preview After an entertaining week of District Tournament basketball, the field is set for the 16th Region Tournament. The results of the district tournaments, although entertaining, weren’t unexpected. They have, however, setup what should prove to be a very competitive and exciting tournament in Morehead. Game 1 – Morgan County vs Ashland Blazer After dropping the championship game to Boyd County, the Tomcats have a stiff first round matchup against district champions Elliott County. In their fourth meeting of the year, the Cougars defeated Elliott by ten... Read More → 5th Region First Round Tournament Preview

The top 2 teams all year, Larue and John Hardin are in it and are in opposite sides of the bracket. There should be some very good games in the region tourney. The region will be held at the Roby Dome in Marion County. First Round Matchups Campbellsville vs. Bardstown (Feb 28th) These two teams have played twice earlier in the season with Bardstown winning by one point both times. Campbellsville is enjoying... Seventh Region Tournament Preview

By Smallhoops - Since the current make-up of the Seventh Region was created following the 2010-11 season, the same group of teams have almost always found their way to the Seventh Region tournament. In fact, the same group of 8 teams that played in the 2011-12 Seventh Region tournament are playing in this season's Seventh Region tournament. Six of the teams (Ballard, Central, Male, Manual, St. Xavier, and Trinity) have played in the tournament every year since the 2011-12 season. Eastern has only missed one year (last year). Seneca is back after missing the tournament the past four years. The... Read More →

Board of Control addresses postseason formats, future sites and alignments

By theguru - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 21, 2018 During the course of its February meeting at the KHSAA offices on Wednesday, the Board of Control deliberated on the postseason formats, future sites and alignments for several sports. The most impactful decision made Wednesday concerned the future of the state softball tournament, with the Board voting for the event to transition to a single-elimination format in 2019. The move to single elimination will bring the softball championship more in-line with the baseball state tournament while also helping to alleviate concerns with the potential... By silo11 - Districts are here and everyone will be watching what takes place in District 8 between University Heights and Hopkinsville. The winner of this game advances to the District title game against likely winner Christian County. The loser will be out. UHA has won 2 games against Hopkinsville this season, but the Tigers are at full strength and are playing well. Look for Madisonville and Henderson County to pull an upset when region tournament starts. 1. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2017-18 record: 19-6 Preseason Rank:2 The Colonels finished their season defeating defending... Read More → 1st Region Final Rankings & District Previews

By silo11 - 1st Region Boys Basketball Review Week 10 There are 4 legit teams that can win Region 1 and make a splash at Rupp. 2 of those teams have separated themselves from the field, Mayfield and McCracken County. Paducah Tilghman and Graves both have the talent to win the region tournament but need to improve play in order to do so. Fulton County has been playing great basketball lately and moved up to number 6 in the rankings. 1. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy BGP #15 2017-18 record: 25-5 Preseason Rank: 2 Mayfield won both their games this week finishing off a... By ColonelMike - Another season has flown by. I think that feeling is heightened by my age, but perhaps not. It just seems that the preseason rankings were just released and we all began speculating on who would really have the breakout year and who would be holding the trophy in New Castle in March. Last week wasn't the best of weeks for the 8th region... Boyle County held off Oldham County in Danville, 67-61....North Bullitt stunned South Oldham, 75-61... Gallatin fell to Beechwood, 61-55....and Simon Kenton was walloped by Covington Catholic, 84-59 as four of the region's top teams fell to... By 15th Region - 2017-2018 15th Region Season Review - District Tournament's Preview 15th Region Overview: Practiced started in October, games in November, today we start the greatest tournament in the state of Kentucky. The regular season in the 15th Region was filled with up’s and down’s. Pikeville was dominate until the injury to Cade Byers, Floyd Central and Johnson Central played brutal schedules, Shelby Valley and Paintsville proved to be better than expected. In a region devoid of any superior teams that can compete with anyone in the state, the 15th had plenty of competitive balance amongst its... By SHS Future - 2017-2018 12th Region Final Update The regular season has ended and the postseason is ready to start. Teams have been prepping all season for this moment. By 24Bricks - 16th Post Season Preview 1. Ashland (21-4) – After a terrific regular season, the Tomcats lost a game in each of the last two weeks. This week, Ashland fell to Russell at home, after defeating the Red Devils by 31 earlier in the year. I still look for the Tomcats to perform well in the district, but facing Fairview in the first round is anything but a sure win. If the Tomcats can put together a win, they are all but certain to face Boyd County for the fourth time this season. Despite the late season losses, Ashland is still the favorite, if only by a small margin, to win the Region. ... Read More → 11th Region Final Rankings and District Predictions

By mooremiller31 - The regular season has come to a close and the 11th Region sets at the top once again as the toughest region in the state of Kentucky. Weve had a lot of ups and downs in the rankings this season but one thing has remained the same....the Scott County Cardinals are the class of the region. Having said that their is a handful of teams that have proven they can compete with anyone in the state and will surely give the Cardinals a run for their money in the next few weeks!! Team of the Week Lexington Christian Academy - What a week for the Eagles. Possibly the best week any team in the 11th... Read More → Seventh Region recap and district tournament preview

By Smallhoops - Success means different things to different teams in the Seventh Region. For example, a successful season for the Trinity Shamrocks is measured differently than for the Walden Wolverines, even though the two schools are within walking distance of each other. Most teams in the Seventh Region achieved some level of success during the regular season, and they should celebrate those successes. There weren’t many major surprises in the regular season, although there were a few. The Collegiate Titans’ 23-win season, easily the best in school history, was not expected by many. Teams like the... Read More → 5th Region Final Rankings and District Tourney Preview

By Sportslover32 - 1. John Hardin (23-7): The Bulldogs won both games this week on the road. They beat Bullitt East at Bullitt East 76-62 and beat Daviess County at Daviess County 83-79. This is two very good road wins as the Daviess County win was against the favorite in the 3rd region. Their resume all year has been the best in the 5th Region. Mickey Pearson who was named 5th region player of the year had an insane 47 and 15 night in the win over Daviess County. In the 17th District they will play the winner of North Hardin and Fort Knox at Central Hardin. 2. Larue County (25-2): The Hawks have done... Read More →
