By ColonelMike - 2017-18 8th Region Boys Preview By: Colonelmike & 8th Region Warrior If there’s one thing we should have learned by now about the 8th Region boys basketball tournament, it’s this advice, borrowed from perhaps, from a horse racing handicapper: Don’t bet the favorite. For the last five years, the mantle of “favorite” has been a curse to the team wearing it… Last year, Oldham County entered the tournament as the prohibitive favorite – and promptly lost in the first round to eventual champ Collins. Two years ago, Owen County was the overwhelming choice – and they also lost in the first... Read More →

Playoff Preview: 6A Round Two

By thsrocks - #11 Central Hardin (8-3) vs. Henderson County (5-6) Central Hardin has won 4 in a row and 6 of their past 7 games. Henderson County comes into this round two contest with 4 wins in their past 6 games. Each team suffered one shutout loss in 2017. The Bruins fell 15-0 to @A #5 Christian Academy of Louisville on September 1. The Colonels dropped the opening game of the season 41-0 to Reitz (IN). Henderson County scored the same number of points as they have allowed, 269. Central Hardin has scored 308 points while giving up 170. My prediction for this slugfest is Central Hardin 21-Henderson... Read More → 3rd Region Boys Basketball Preview

By ApolloFan98 - The 2017/2018 3rd region basketball season is setting up to be a fun one. While it appears that Catholic and Daviess County are the slight favorites on paper, it’s not by much. It will be interesting to see which teams outside of Owensboro emerge to compete for the title. Overall, it feels like this region is wide open to at least 7-8 different teams. 1.Owensboro Catholic Aces (22-11) - One year removed from their first trip to Rupp, the Aces look primed to make another push for a 3rd region title. Coach Tim Riley will return most everyone from a squad that won over twenty games last year... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (11/6): Not As Chalky As You'd Think

By DragonFire - Cards on the table, I've often joined in the argument that we have too many teams making the playoffs. I fall more into the "we have too many classes" category rather than "we should take the top two seeds", but the amount of teams that make it and get pulped is rather crazy. However, 4A had a surprising amount of "upsets" by seeds that continued a recent trend. All of those upsets came in the 2/3 games, as they almost always do. Since the institution of the six class system, 1 seeds are 85-1 in the first round of 4A play. The lone loss was in 2010, when West Jessamine knocked off... By Les - 13th Region Boys Basketball Preview 1. Corbin Redhounds The Redhounds looked solid during the summer’s Laurel County Hoop Fest, and dominated their opponents during tournament play. Corbin won by double figures against Clay County, South Laurel, and defending 13th Region champion Harlan County, making them my clear-cut 13th region favorite entering the 2017-18 campaign. The Redhounds possess the best player in the region in Andrew Taylor, and he could very well be the best player in the state. Taylor can hurt you from anywhere on the floor, along with his teammates.... Read More →

3A Notebook: Garrard Scores Early, Holds on Late to Best Top-Seeded Fleming

By gchs_uk9 - Garrard County Proves Not All Four Seeds Created Equal Rarely does a four seed win in the KHSAA football playoffs. Between six classes and small districts, the gap between ones and fours is typically quite wide, making for an opening round long on running clocks and short on drama. That wasn't the case in Flemingsburg on Friday night as fourth seeded Garrard County scored early and held on late to beat first seeded Fleming County 20-14, becoming one of only two four seeds to win a first round game (Butler defeated Ryle in 6A). Playing in dry conditions but on a muddy field, Garrard... Read More →

By Sportslover32 - Basketball season is almost here. The Cardinals of Taylor County won their 3rd straight region title last year. This year, my top 4 teams was the last 4 standing last year. Those teams are John Hardin, Taylor County, Adair County and Larue County. The region has some great individual talent this year, and it should be an exciting season. Preseason 5th Region Rankings 1. John Hardin (23-11): The Bulldogs look to be the favorite in the 5th region this year. They had a good year last year, but this year expectations are even higher. They return a great player in Mickey Pearson, a Saint... Read More →

Class 5A Playoff Preview

By Ram - Region I (District 1 vs. District 2) Region one has traditionally been a solid region that is chock full of some of the best teams in the class. This year is no different as it is absolutely loaded with four of the 8 teams in the region currently residing in the BGP top ten. Even sixth ranked South Warren gets a tough first round game versus #12 Graves County. One would think that #2 Bowling Green would get a cupcake in the opening round, yet they enter the playoffs facing off against rival Owensboro, a team sitting just outside of the top 15. There isn’t a single team in the class that... Read More →

By All State Baseball - (6A) (#1) (D7) Scott County Cardinals v (6A) (#4) (D8) George Rogers Clark Cardinals: The Cardinals, Scott County that is, is looking for their 2nd state title (dating back to 1998 per KHSAA) since 2013. Past several years, Lafayette has been a thorn in Scott County's side, knocking them out of the playoffs. Scott County will open up the 2017 playoffs at home with the Cardinals from Winchester, George Rogers Clark. Scott County comes in 8-2 and have annilated all of their opponents except for Lafayette who they defeated 31-21 earlier in the season. George Rogers Clark comes in 5-5 and... By All State Baseball - It’s that time once again that a lot of people wait for. it’s time for basketball season and the 14th region should be a fun one with no real heavy favorite like year’s past. Perry Central, Knott Central, Estill County and Wolfe County all have chances to win the region title this season. Preseason 14th Region Rankings 1. Knott County Central: The Patriots will look to make it back to the region championship game again this coming season. By DragonFire - The 14th District Era is alive and well, completing their 16th straight year of dominance a season ago behind their workhorse Bowling Green. The Purples, tired of losing to the team that wins it all, won the whole thing themselves as part of their 4th straight region title run, winning 29 games in a row en route to a 36-2 record and the first basketball state title in the school’s history. The Purples were rarely challenged as they ran their region streak to 48 in a row, with only their two meetings with Greenwood and a comeback win at Franklin-Simpson pushing them into single digit margins...
