Getting on the Same Page: Remembering the Royals of the late 90s

By ChiefSmoke - This was a week when two different world's ran in to each other. As a staff here at Mercer, we have spent much of the week working to continue getting on the same page. Offensive & defensive schemes, gameplans, the weightroom, practice plans, etc. have all been discussed. Don't underestimate how tough it is for a football program and staff to become one cohesive unit. Communication, listening, explanations, etc. are critical and often a staff of football coaches can be a strong-willed group of guys. 60169 JT Walsh (7) & Brandon Drake (61) in our season opening win at Bath County.... By DragonFire - Fourth Region Rankings 1) Bowling Green (18-2) - 1/17 74-59 W at Christian County, 1/20 88-66 W #6 Warren East, 1/23 62-59 W at #2 Franklin-Simpson Previous Rank: 1 This Week: 1/24 vs. Muhlenberg County, 1/27 vs. #5 Warren Central You wouldn't know it from the first two scores, but two of the three games Bowling Green played were complete dogfights. Christian County had the Purples down by double digits for much of the third quarter, but Bowling Green chipped away and then blew past them like they were standing still in the fourth. Zion Harmon led the team with 29 points... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com Girls' Basketball Jan 24 Wrap Up

By Jesse James - This past week saw some great game across the state with some headliners at the Raatz Fence Tourney hosted by Mercy as well as great games all across the state. Teams are now starting to hit their stride and before you know it Districts will be here. #1 Butler had a great week. They beat #6 Manual in a crazy good game in 3OT. This was a classic from start to finish, in a game I thought Manual had won in regulation. Final score ended up being 72-71. IU signee Jaelynn Penn led Butler with 20 pts. Butler then took on 20-0 and nationally ranked Montini Catholic IL Saturday. Depending on who... Read More →

Inside the 15th Region (1-23-17)

By 15th Region - Overview: With the increasing difficulty to rank the 15th Region, a new way to classify teams has been devised. The 57th District still looks strong, Timmy Dalton continues to lead the nation in scoring per max preps, and a few teams are getting hot late. Lets see what the region holds after 8 weeks of play. Tier 1 (Teams within this tier are considered interchangeable on a given night and have distinguished themselves as the primary contenders for the regional title. These teams should be considered favorites above lower tiers – they are in no particular order). Sheldon Clark (12-9)... Read More →

10th Region Recap and Rankings - 1/23/17

By mcpapa - The region's top 5 seem to have separated themselves just a bit from the pack, and the gap between number one and number two may not be as significant as many - myself included - believe it was a couple of weeks ago. Without further ado: 1. Campbell County (18-1, 6-1 region). The Camels served up an Oreo last week, with a romp over Highlands the filling between a pair of nailbiters nd running their winning streak to 16. Cole Hegyi had 19 in a 62-60 win over Conner, then added another 19 to complement Garren Bertsch's 21 in the win over Highlands. In the much-anticipated matchup with... Read More →

10 Years Worth of Football

By thehotsnakes - I've spent the last few days killing some down time at work. The following is every team who competed this year, with their win totals of the last decade combined. Also their average wins per season, where their win totals rank out of 221 teams, how many coaching changes they have had over the last decade (C.C. column) and then the average wins per season rankings (AWPSR). I might have made a mistake here or there, but I'm pretty confident that these numbers are accurate. There were a few coaching situations where there was not a coach listed. There were also a few times when the coach... Read More →

Here are this week's rankings. 1. Covington Catholic (17-4) The Colonels solidified themselves as the #1 team in the region with a 55-52 win over Cooper and followed that up with a 77-46 blow out win over Ryle, to extend their win streak to 5 games. 8th region re-cap 1/23/17

By 8th Region Warrior - What a week for our teams in the 8th region as they picked up some impressive wins against non 8th region foes. Many people in the state took notice as our top teams have proven they are dangerous at Rupp, while our middle teams are capable of upsets on any night. January as I have said is a brutal month, you get kids sick, hurt and most of your parent complaints unfortunately and it doesn't matter if your team is successful to the January complainers. Weather has been pleasant but with that comes a lot of sickness. Big seeded district games and jockeying for position is taking place to... Read More →

Inside the 13th Region (01-23-17)

By Les - 1. Corbin (14-3 overall, 7-1 vs. 13th Region opponents) The Redhounds saw their four-game win streak get snapped on the road after falling to Knox Central on Friday, 93-80. The two teams have now split with each other with Corbin coming away with a win at home on Dec. 30, 2016, winning, 76-71. So why isn’t Knox Central No. 1 currently? You could toss the names of corbin, South Laurel, Knox Central and Harlan County into a hat and pick one, and you couldn’t go wrong with them being ranked as the top team right now. With that said, I’m going with the Redhounds because of some of the bigger... Read More →

Inside the 3rd Region(1/23)

By ApolloFan98 - With about a month remaining in the regular season, the regional picture is nearly as wide open as it was back in November. Apollo seems to have established themselves as the team to beat the rest of the way, but its a very muddled picture behind them. The region still seems like it will run through the 9th district when all is said and done. Hancock County has a nice record, but they will need to prove they can hang against top contenders in the region. Meade County should also have a say if they can get healthy before the elimination games begin. 1.Apollo Eagles(15-2) – SAME – The... Read More →
