Class 4A Notebook (8/21): Chaos in the Middle

By DragonFire - When the rankings were being compiled this preseason, there were few absolutes in Class 4A. Johnson Central was the clear #1, that much we knew, and obviously will remain so after opening with a bye week. Wayne County appeared to be a solid #2, and they backed that up with a 45-7 pasting of 5A Woodford County. Collins acquitted themselves as well with a 38-7 victory over Madison Southern, that saw JR Lucas account for over 400 yards of offense through the air and on the ground in addition to four scores. After that, things got…. hazy. And after the first week, things are…. well, still... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings (8-21-17)

By Bert - 1. Trinity (1-0) – Trinity powerfully defended its top ranking with a strong showing against Indiana’s defending 6A champion. The Shamrocks will face another Hoosier opponent when they travel up to Indianapolis this Friday to face always strong Warren Central. 2. St. Xavier (1-0) – Not to be outdone by its archrival Trinity, the Tigers beat an Indy opponent also in Cathedral High School. With a week off, the following week X will face a fellow Bluegrass opponent but a mighty one in Bowling Green who the past several years has had an edge against St. X in their annual match up. Looks to... Read More →

Scott County had 357 total yards on fewer plays (28) on their way to routing the Eagles. The schedule gets a little tougher this week as they travel to Lexington to take on a high powered Lafayette offense. 2. 6A Lafayette (1-0): Lafayette opened the season by running over Bryan Station 28-0. BluegrassPreps - Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 08/20/17

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2017 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 0 Edition Well I hope you had a great opening weekend to the 2017 Kentucky High School football season and hope you got to go see some of your favorite team’s lace ‘em up one more time! We’ve gone from I think this and that to I saw this and that from THIS year’s squads. The top story line this week is anticipation. It is a fickle thing. Even if you say you don’t know what to expect from your team, subconsciously you do and likely it is a continuation, to some degree, of last season. Well the great (and leveling) thing... 3A Notebook: Opening Weekend Serves Notice of Class 3A Caliber

By gchs_uk9 - Five Ranked Teams Beat Higher Class Opponents, Three of Which were Ranked With much of the preseason talk centered around the possibility of four-time defending state champion Belfry returning to the pack in Class 3A, five of the top six ranked programs served notice that they were more than ready to challenge the mighty Pirates. The most impressive victory came from #3 Elizabethtown, who won at 4A #5 Franklin-Simpson, 55-23. Jay Becherer ran for 155 yards and two scores while Joseph Becherer clipped off 104 yards and two scores himself. Not to be outdone, quarterback Tyler Durbin... Read More →

2A Game of the Week: Owensboro Catholic vs. Reitz (IN)

By DevilMayCare - Week 0 reaffirmed what many of us already believed... class 2A is LOADED at the top. And there appears to be but a sliver of separation amongst the top 5. Danville, CAL, LCA, DeSales, and Mayfield all logged impressive season opening wins. Owensboro Catholic sits just outside of that quintet after a closer-than-expected 33-31 win over Daviess County. The Aces fell behind early and trailed by 10 at the half. A strong 3rd quarter put OCath ahead by a TD before Daviess County answered with a score midway through the 4th. A failed 2 pt conversion allowed Owensboro Catholic to maintain a slim... Read More →

Class 5A Preview

By JDEaston - This season of class 5A football features a lot of the same frontrunners that we have all been accustomed to seeing at the top of the class year after year. The Bowling Green Purples will once again carry the bullseye on their back as the defending champions, as well as the preseason favorite. However unlike last season, the Purples are in a bit of a reloading year so to say, so we will have to see if they will be as dominant as they were last season, or if there will be a handful of teams that could seriously challenge them for the title. When looking at teams that could challenge the... Read More →

Louisville Preseason Power Rankings

By Bert - Prior year regular season records in parentheses. 1. Trinity (10-0) – I normally don't automatically assign the preseason #1 ranking to the prior year #1 but so far Trinity has earned that right. Trinity's match up against mighty Carmel, IN High School should be a great match up but at the same time will be difficult to determine how strong Trinity really is. 2. St. Xavier (7-4) – The Tiger's prior year season may not have looked ideal with four losses but those four losses all came from eventual state champions (Trinity reg season, Bowling Green, Cincy St. X and Trinity playoffs). X... Read More →

In fact, high school athletes not only have higher grade point averages and fewer school absences than non-athletes, they also develop... Read More →

Central Kentucky Preseason Power Rankings - 2017

By All State Baseball - 1.Scott County Cardinals (11-3): The Cardinals seemingly ran wild on their opponents last season only picking up 3 losses the entire season including playoffs. Two of the losses came against Lafayette a 1-0 defeat due to a forfeit by the Cardinals. Lafayette would defeat the Cardinals 48-47 in the Class 6A state semi-finals ending the Cardinals season. The week before, a 2 point conversion was the difference in the Scott County-Ryle game with the Cardinals surviving. The Cardinals once again have a stellar schedule and why not? With their two leading offensive players returning; RB Brice... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Class 6A Preview

By thsrocks - The 2017 season in 6A starts with the addition of a new school, the Douglass Stallions. They are in District 7 with Bryan Station, Henry Clay, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Scott County. Not much else has changed in the landscape of this division. Trinity is heavily favored by Bluegrass Preps to repeat as state champions, followed by Saint Xavier and Male. This year’s playoff bracket has Saint Xavier & Male on the opposite side from Trinity and an all-Jefferson County final in Lexington appears to be highly likely on Sunday, December 3. 1. Trinity (15-0 defeated Lafayette for their 24th... Read More →
