2nd Region Tournament Preview

By silo11 - The second region has been about two teams all year long. Right from the beginning, University Heights and Madisonville North-Hopkins showed they were the cream of the crop, and things never changed. For UHA, its about the continued 8th district dominance within the region. Since 2001, an 8th district team has won the region 2 title and advanced to Rupp Arena. The closest any team has come in recent memory to snap that streak was in 2015 when David Simmons and Henderson County dominated throughout the year, but fell to Hopkinsville in the semis. Madisonville-North Hopkins has the... Read More →

1st Region Tournament Preview

By silo11 - The end of the road for all but one team in Region 1 is upon us. All the hard work these teams have put is about to come to a conclusion. Here is a very short recap of what happened in region 1 this season. Mayfield started out as the preseason number 1 since they went undefeated in the regular season in region play last year, and they didnít lose anything. They struggled out of the gate however and fell out of that number one spot. Paducah Tilghman lost a lot, but had some significant transfer additions and looked as they could be in it all season. The talent was there, but they... Read More →

16th Region Tournament Preview

By Carson Palmer - Game #1 ELLIOTT COUNTY vs BATH COUNTY The Lions definitely got the best opening round matchup on paper. The Wildcats have struggled down the stretch and will need a huge effort to knock off Elliott County. Look for the senior trio of Korbin Spencer, Gage Evans, and Tanner Dickerson to lead the Lions into the region semifinals on Friday. Prediction: ELLIOTT COUNTY Game #2 LEWIS COUNTY vs ASHLAND This game could be the best of the first round matchups. The Lions are on a ten-game winning streak and have the best fan following in the 16th Region. Sam O'Keefe and Seth Wright lead the... Read More →

10th Region Tournament Preview

By mcpapa - It's tenth region tournament time in Maysville. Nothing like it. Arguably the best high-school basketball atmosphere in the Commonwealth; and that's saying something. Seating for 5400 on wooden bleachers when the stage is opened up. The two state championship trophies and the uni shirts of Lyons, Feldhaus, Lofton and Miller in the trophy case as you walk in. Popcorn and pep bands (check out Mason County's version of that high-school pep band standard, Free Bird). Cars parked all the way out to U.S. Highway 68. If you're a high school hoops fan, it doesn't get any better than this. Win... Read More →

9th Region Tournament Preview

By PP1 - Itís a bitter sweet time for me. Itís sweet because I get to go to NKU and watch a very competitive tournament; however, it is bitter because I must wait till November to sit in a High School Gymnasium and watch a basketball game. This past week as I watched district semis and finals games while sitting in old wooden bleachers and snacking on the concession duí jour I was constantly reminded why I love high school basketball. It started on Monday when I saw the Villa Madonna Vikings defeat the favored Ludlow Panthers and continued Tuesday as Beechwood survived an upset bid from the... Read More →

Seventh Region Tournament Preview

By Smallhoops - The eight teams we thought would make it to the Seventh Region tournament have made it, and it is a familiar bunch. Six of the teams (St. X, Ballard, Trinity, Male, Central and Manual) have played in the Seventh Region tournament every year since the Sixth and Seventh Regions were realigned prior to the 2011-12 season. Eastern has been every year but one year since then, and this is Waggenerís fourth appearance in those seven years. One thing that tells me is that the teams that are routinely the best in the Seventh Region are pretty evenly distributed among the four districts. That... Read More →

By TDC - Itís Region Tournament week, time for prognostications sure to go wrong. The only predictable thing with this Region Tournament, much like the regular season and District play, is the unpredictability of the outcome. Below is a ranking and preview of the teams in the tournament along with some likely inaccurate predictions. 1. Danville (27-5): Despite dropping the District Championship game to Lincoln County, the Admirals went 17-2 in the Region this year and should be considered the tournament favorite.
