10th Region Week 6 in Review - The Diagnosis Heard 'round the Commonwealth

By mcpapa - Unfortunately, the biggest 10th region news story of the week wasn't a game or a tournament or an individual highlight reel, but the torn ACL diagnosis of Pendleton County's Mr. Basketball candidate Dontaie Allen. DA suffered the injury in the first half in a game against Cooper before Christmas and hadn't appeared since; and the diagnosis was confirmed last week. Allen was leading the state in points and rebounds, but will not get the chance to qualify as a "state leader"; the requisite number of games to be considered being 20. We wish him the best as he recovers, and much success as he... Read More →

16th Region Week 6 Review: Elliott County and Everyone Else

By Carson Palmer - The 16th Region continues to be Elliott County a cut above of the rest of the teams. The rankings from spots 2-14 continue to fluctuate from week to week. A prime example of the parity was Morgan County defeating previously undefeated Rowan County Friday but then losing to district rival West Carter on Saturday. Let's take a look at this week's rankings. 1. ELLIOTT COUNTY (11-2) The Lions roared to a 104-76 win over Lewis County on Thursday as Korbin Spencer poured in 43 points. A long road trip to Muhlenberg County resulted in a tough overtime loss to the highly regarded Muhlenberg County... Read More →

1st Region Week 6 Review: Will he be eligible?

By silo11 - The big game this week was Graves County vs Mayfield in a District 3 showdown. Mayfield came out on top, even without one of their big guns. McCracken also showed signs of vulnerability as they pulled out two extremely tight games. Paducah and Murray continue to play well, but still need to improve. Marshall is waiting on news whether one of the best players in the nation will join them by week’s end. And the All “A” Classic games are almost upon us. Here are the rankings for week 6: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #11 2018-19 record: 13-1 Week’s Record: 2-0 The... Read More →

13th Region Week 6 Review

By Les - 1. Knox Central (13-2 overall, 4-1 vs. 13th Region competition) The Panthers are beginning to hit on all cylinders, but coach Tony Patterson believes there is room for improvement. Knox Central managed to capture the 13th Region Class 2A Tournament championship this past week by defeating both Jackson County and Bell County. The Panthers will now advance to the Class 2A Section 4 championship while also earning an automatic bid into the Class 2A State Tournament in two weeks. 2. 9th Region Week 6 Review: A lot of movement from #3 all the way to the end.

By PP1 - It has been an active week in the 9th Region. Covington Catholic flexed their muscle against a tough Newport team, Highlands is scuffling with a losing streak, and Bellevue almost made our headline. The season is about half over and we are starting to get a feel for district seeds as we await the beginning of the All A Tournament. Every team in the region has a digit in the win column now and it will be fun to see who can get hot at the right time. 1. Cooper (13-2): Cooper played once last week and defeated Boone County by 18. I do not see them leaving the #1 spot unless several things... Read More →

5th Region Week 6 Review

By Sportslover32 - 1. Larue County (12-2): The Hawks continued their great year by winning both games this week. They beat Campbellsville 63-33 at home and beat district opponent Green County 72-57 at home. Larue has done what many have expected from them so far, which is be a very good basketball team. They are a team who has 4 players who could be the guy any given night. In the win over Campbellsville Noah Davis and Anthony Adkins had 19 points each to lead Larue. 2. John Hardin (13-0): The Bulldogs continue to do nothing but win as they won their only game this week. They beat Owensboro Catholic at home... Read More →

2nd Region Week 6 Review

By silo11 - No big changes in this week’s rankings. Webster County dropped a few spots after their loss. Things will start to pick up as more teams play each other in the region over the next month and a half. Madisonville has the chance to break into the BGP top 20 soon if they can keep playing like they have been. Everyone else is looking up at UHA and MNC. There is a pretty significant gap after those two teams. Here are week 6 rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#5 2018-19 record: 11-2 Week’s Record: 1-0 The Blazers defeated Murray 76-66 at Mustang... Read More →

It was a night and day difference from the first meeting when Bowling Green scored the first 17 of the game. In this one, it was a back and forth affair, and the Gators took a ten point lead early in the fourth quarter. But while Bowling Green is... Read More →

7th Region Week 6 Review: Back to Work

By Smallhoops - Friday night’s Trinity-St. X game, won by Trinity 46-43, shows what Seventh Region basketball fans can look forward to the rest of this season. It has been a while since there have been so many teams competing to be the best of the Seventh Region. With so many good teams, there will be a number of good match-ups through the rest of the season. Two of those good intra-region match-ups will be contested Friday night. The battle between St. Matthews neighbors Trinity and Waggener will take place at Trinity, while St. X will be hosting the Male Bulldogs. I wish I could be at both of those... Read More →

By All State Baseball - With Christmas break already over with, it’s time to get back to the games that matter, district and region games. 12th Region Week 6 Review: Milestones and Rivalries

By TDC - Week 6 wrapped up the holiday break, some District action commenced this past week but most of the District rivalry games are still in front of us. There are some clear contenders (Wayne, Danville, Lincoln), some potential contenders with the talent to win the Region that have yet to play their best (Mercer, West Jessamine), and some rising young potential contenders that could really shake things up if they continue to improve (Pulaski, Somerset, Garrard). The next tier is for Boyle County alone, who doesn’t currently appear to be a serious contender but that could change with the return of... Read More →

10th Region Week 5 Review - Nobody Can Break Away From the Pack

By mcpapa - The 10th didn't exactly distinguish itself in the week 5 holiday tournaments - with one exception. Our "powerhouses" aren't so powerful at the moment - maybe a new calendar year will ring in better results. 1. Campbell County (9-3, 2-0 region, 0-0 district). The Camels went 2-1 in the Central Bank Classic at Lexington Christian, routing Oldham County and West Jessamine; while falling to the host school in a two-point nailbiter. Big man Reid Jolly is still averaging a double-double; while senior guard Drew Wilson actually gets to the line a bit more often and averages over 19PPG. ... Read More →
