Class 4A Notebook (9/5): No Waves This Week

By DragonFire - Last week #1 Johnson Central lost the initiative to keep the top ranking, putting them at the mercy of Franklin-Simpson’s result against South Warren. This week the ball is squarely back in Johnson Central’s court. As has frequently been the case in the last two years, 4A has been knocked around by the elite of other classes this season. Teams in the 4A top 10 have played five games against teams in the top 5 of other classes – they’re 1-4 with Ashland’s win over Raceland the lone win for the class. This week it was South Warren’s turn again to light up a 4A top team, putting another... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings 9/3

By TheDeuce - 1. 6A Male (3-0) The boys in Purple and Gold posted their third straight dominating performance last week, posting a 50-0 drubbing of 5A Doss. As they look ahead to this week, they face their first real test of 2018, when they visit the Trinity Shamrocks. A win over the Shamrocks would solidify the Bulldogs spot at the top of the Power Rankings, and also validate them as the best team in the state of Kentucky. 2. 6A Trinity (0-3) In a game that was stopped in the third quarter due to weather, Trinity gave up a first half lead and again found themselves on the losing end of a third... 6A Notebook: What the heck is going on here?

By Bac2369 - It’s already been an exciting few weeks of high school football and it is only going to get better. Class 6A has caused many of us to scratch our heads early this season. The top teams leave us asking, “What the heck is going on here?”. The #1 Trinity Shamrocks had started the season at 0-2, only losing by a total of 4 points in their two games. Trinity was on the road this week against ArchBishop Moeller (OH).Trinity jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead on a miscue and a blocked punt. Moeller answered and tied the game before the end of the 1st quarter. Trinity would have some miscues of... Read More →

1A Notebook 9/3 - Where are we Headed?

By Voice of Reason - This week instead of doing a recap of last week's games, let's do an overview of what has happened early in the season. Teams have played 2 or 3 games at this point and have provided enough evidence for us to get a feel for things. Do we have any surprises so far? How are the top tier teams looking? Who looks like the true dark horse teams we need to keep a close eye on? At the Top Coming into the season, it was acknowledged by most that the top 5 teams in the rankings were above the rest. This is true in most classes. There are usually 3-6 teams that are just a notch or two above... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (9/3): Student 1 - Teacher 0

By DevilMayCare - Personally, when I think of instances where a pupil got the better of their former teacher/mentor, a couple of good examples come to mind… 1. Bill Belichick’s Browns defeating Bill Parcells’ Patriots in the 1994 AFC playoffs after Belichick spent seven years as Parcells’ Defensive Coordinator with the New York Giants, winning two Super Bowls together… 2. Darth Vader cutting down Obi-wan Kenobi aboard the Death Star in Episode IV after decades of bad blood stemming from Anakin turning to the dark side and Obi-wan cutting his legs off and leaving him to burn like a marshmallow that's been left... Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 9-3

By ATLCat - 1. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 3-0)- The Hounds continued to flex their muscles by overwhelming Pulaski County. Corbin now gets their stiffest challenge of the year as they host the #1 team in Class 1A Beechwood. The Tigers defeated Corbin last year. 2. Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 1-1)- Johnson Central got off the mat from a season opening loss and took down 6A Henry Clay. The Eagles' Offense still sin't quite humming the way they like, they will look to get on the same page against South Charleston, WV. 3. BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (9/3)

By Ram - Class 1A Beechwood didn't get a full four quarters in against Somerset, but what time they were on the field was impressive. The Tigers get one of their stiffest tests this week, heading down I-75 to play an excellent 3A Corbin squad. On a week where the majority of the Top 10 will be playing ranked foes, perhaps the most telling game will be the annual clash between Eastern Kentucky heavyweights, when Pikeville and Paintsville meet. Both Hazard and Raceland have been sharp in the early season, and both should be expected to have to play a full 48:00 this week against solid foes. 1.... Read More →

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2018 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 3 Edition Mother Nature decided to show up Friday night! Many games were impacted whether delayed or raining during the game. 3A Notebook: Hot Start in District 8

By gchs_uk9 - District 8 Trio Are Each 3-0 After three weeks of Kentucky High School football there are nine undefeated teams in Class 3A. One-third of those reside in District 8. Bell County, Casey County, and Corbin have all started the 2018 campaign hot, winning by a combined average score of 41-12. Was this expected? Yes and no. All three teams advanced to at least the second round of the playoffs in 2017. But as with nearly all high school football teams, there were questions entering this season. Corbin Third-ranked Corbin defeated Pulaski County, 47-20, on Friday night to pick up their... Read More → Mr. Football Watchlist (8/29)

1A Notebook 8/29 - Contenders?

By Voice of Reason - The consensus in class 1A early from the preseason and up to last Friday was this class was all about the Beechwood Tigers. The two time defending champions are loaded and senior dominated this year. That led a clear majority, perhaps more, to think the 2018 regular season and playoffs are more a formality than a contest. That outlook changed with last week's games. The top teams immediately behind the Tigers in the rankings had performances that caused people to think twice about this 1A race. Let's take a look at last week and see who made a case for being a threat to the Tigers. Last... Read More →

After Michael Mayer’s Week 0 defensive performance, we got to see what makes him a D1 tight end, with his team leading 79yds and 2 TDs on 6 pass receptions. QB Caleb Jacob finished the game with 10 completions on 13 attempts, good for 167yds passing and 3 TDs, and RB Casey McGinness was good for 136yds on the ground, with 1 TD. Class 4A Notebook (8/29): Mulligans

By DragonFire - The 4A rankings this week were exactly the same as a week ago despite four losses by top ten teams. The reason for that was a disparity between the level of competition faced by the teams that fell - each playing a team in the top 2 of their respective class in their respective state - and that faced by virtually every other team that won, most of which were beaten before setting foot on the field. For the teams that lost, it's the equivalent of a mulligan in golf. They get a re-do at this rank, but this week, they likely wouldn't be so lucky. With Johnson Central taking the first week... BluegrassPreps Central Kentucky Power Rankings 8-29 Week 2

By PurplePride92 - Nothing has changed at the top of this week’s Central Kentucky Power Rankings as the top 5 teams all won convincingly to make things at the top easy to figure out. The bottom 5 teams is where the water gets murky and it is becoming increasingly difficult trying to figure out how they all stack up. Needless to say there have been some insane individual performances to start the season and last week had a couple of eye opening performances from some of the studs of Central Kentucky. Let’s jump in and take a look and see what happened in Central Kentucky last week. Top Ten: 1. Scott... Read More →
