3A Notebook: Big Three Advance along with a Surprise

By gchs_uk9 - Boyle County Win over Belfry Worth the Wait On May 13, 2014, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association released the final copy of the football alignment for 2015-18. In Class 3A, the obvious change was the addition of Boyle County, who had won seven state titles at that point, to the existing dominance of Belfry, who had won four titles at that point and would go on to win two more. Much discussion was had about who would be the best team in Class 3A: would it be Belfry, dominant for so long? Or would it be Boyle County, who'd toiled in Class 4A for the better part of a decade but was... Read More → 10th Region Boys Basketball Preview

BluegrassPreps Lexington/Central Kentucky Area Playoff Power Rankings

By PurplePride92 - Round 2 of the playoffs was an abysmal round for the Lexington/Central Kentucky Area as it was like Thanos came through and snapped his fingers and half of the teams disappeared. By silo11 - Defending Region 2 Champions: University Heights Academy Best Regular Season Region 2 Record: University Heights (15-2) Last year was a down year for Region 2 basketball. Both Hopkinsville and Christian County has huge expectations as some of the top players in their programs were seniors. Johnson, Cager, and Ware were going to battle for the Region 2 championship and do some major damage at the Sweet 16. That never happened. Hopkinsville struggled with injuries and off the court issues. Christian County couldn't seem to kick in the killer instinct. Because of that, UHA rose to the... By silo11 - Defending Region 1 Champions: McCracken County Mustangs Best Regular Season Region 1 Record: Mayfield Cardinals (17-0) Region 1 last year had some very entertaining movement throughout the season. Paducah Tilghman looked like the team to beat before Mayfield roared to an undefeated regular season in Region 1. However Graves Co and McCracken Co ended up in the finals with the Mustangs moving on to the Sweet 16. This year may not be much different than last year with a clear favorite to win the Region being Mayfield. They went undefeated in the regular season and they have the same basic... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (11/11): Expect the Totally Expected

By DragonFire - The 4A playoffs basically summed up in a single image. We're through two rounds of the 4A state playoffs. Two road teams have won in the sixteen games played, one in each round. One of those was #3 Ashland knocking off Harrison County, which while against seed, was 100% expected. The other was a 24-0 shutout by Hopkinsville over Warren East in the first round. The margin may have been unexpected, but those were two teams that were considered basically even. But that... Read More →

3A Notebook: Another Wild Night in Eastern Kentucky

By gchs_uk9 - Belfry Rides Isaac Dixon on Offense and Defense to Second Round Victory The most appetizing second round game in the Class 3A playoff bracket was Lexington Catholic and Belfry and it certainly did not disappoint. Fourth-ranked Belfry and fifth-ranked Lexington Catholic traded licks all evening before Brett Coleman scored from three yards out with just over a minute to go to give Belfry the 55-51 victory. It was a wild night from the get-go on Pond Creek. Belfry led 13-10 after one quarter of play, the highlight a 55-yard touchdown run from Isaac Dixon with four minutes to go in the... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook: Hooray for Murray, DeSales Wins the Horse Race

By ATLCat - Murray Stuns Owensboro Catholic, Take Aim at Mayfield Trailing 26-0 in the First Half, it appeared as if the heavy underdog Murray Tigers were more likely to have a running clock rather than a potential shocking First-Round win. Murray never faltered in the face of adversity and just executed key drive after key drive, coupled with a Defensive effort that held the high-powered Aces' Offense to only one score as the Tigers rallied to outscore them 41-6. Owensboro Catholic failed to score in the Second Half. Mark Thompson began the turn around with a pair of scores. Jaiden Jackson would... Read More →

By PP1 - Preamble: In my ten years as a member of the BGP Family I have always thought that 9th Region fans were more active than any other place in the Commonwealth. The task of ranking this region before the first scrimmages begin is trying and gives one the desire to hide their head in the grass of the floodwall in Dayton. However, one of my favorite Bible stories is when Joshua loses a battle and falls on the dirt crying to God. God says “Get off the ground and act like a man (slight paraphrase).” So here it is..... discuss away. Regional Preview 1. Covington Catholic: The defending state... Larue got runner up last year, but seems to be the favorite coming into the year. The Region Tournament will be held at Hart County this year. Preseason 5th Region Rankings 1.
