I sure hope he and Lou can agree on everything. If not, I could see a :fight: breaking out.

I think he'll do just fine as long as we continue to win

I remember Rob Dibble and Lou Piniella duking it out and they turned out fine.

If they can get the ownership situation settled and it's the local guy buying, I'm willing to bet that the Cubs will get Peavey

I think if you had asked back in November if Cubs fans would be willing to trade Derosa and Marquis for Peavy, most would have jumped at the chance. It appears that is what is going to happen.

I'm thinking a package that may include Cedeno, Pie, one of their top prospects and likely one or two they got from Cleveland in the Derosa trade. Not to mention they have cleared the salary space now

I'd be surprised if Peavey isn't a Cub next year. THe new owner if it's who I think it will be will raise the payroll and will want to win FAST. The package the Cubs will likely ship out are Cedeno,Vitters, the guy we got from the Rox for Marquis and a couple of the prospects we got from Cleveland. Don't expect Marshall to be dealt

Man, that rotation would be absolutely nasty. Peavey, Zambrano, Harden, Lilly, Dempster, with Marshall doing spot starts to give the regulars an extra day or 2 off every now and then.
Shark, Marmol, Gregg in the pen as your 7,8,9 line up.
I'm pumped and thinking about going to the Cubs convention next weekend!

The package they send for Peavy coupled with what they gave up for Gregg will pretty much wipe out their farm system and they'll need to start from scatch. They have went from top two Farm System to bottom 10 in a span of five years with no WS flag to show for it.

True but the Yankee's are worse and they stay competitive and the Cubs have the $$$ to sign free agents to fill voids and don't have to live and die by the farm system. I could care less if the Iowa Cubs win the Pacific Coast League title or not. I want to see them at a minimum winning the Wild Card every year. The more years we can get in the playoffs, the higher the chance of getting to the World Series

But you have to have a solid mix. Zambrano, Marshall, Theriot, Soto, Pie, Marmol, Samardzija, and Cedeno are key components and all home grown.
The Yankees have gutted their farm system and have as many WS titles in the past decade as the Cubs.
You have to have a solid mix of home grown talents, FAs, and those aquired through trades. The Cubs have upped the ante in recent years at the expense of the farm system.
