If the relationship with Ben was really that bad then I’m cool with it. From what I’ve heard it’s just that Ben doesn’t respond well to Haley’s coaching style. Personally I’d like someone like Haley to coach the Bengals. Authoritarian style. I still think the Steelers are giving up a really good OC.

Do the Steelers fans on here think there is a discipline issue on the team? Without bashing the Bengals in your post please.

They were definitely out coached last week.
I never said he was a great coach, but he is the second or third most successful in the league. Firing him because "it's time to move on" is stupid. I need more than that to be convinced.

Have there been times when I thought he's been out-coached? Yep. Name a coach that hasn't been.

Do I wish there would be less "bulletin board material" that came out of the locker room? Yep, not a fireable offense, IMO. They are grown men who make a lot of money who will say/do whatever they want.

Josh McDaniels - offensive minded, has worked with and succeeded with high-octane offenses. Willing to give his QB free reign in the huddle, something Tomlin doesn't do.

Matt Patricia - Probably one of the smartest handful of dudes in the NFL. Always has his guys in the right positions. Has proven capable of adjusting and overcoming injuries to key defensive players, something Tomlin hasn't been able to do, at least not recently.

Mike Vrabel - No nonsense guy. Would hold his players accountable both on and off the field. Would never allow the distractions that Tomlin seems to help create that have negatively impacted the Steelers in recent years.
I'd probably be okay with any of those choices, in the event Tomlin left/retired.

I'm not firing Tomlin for any of them at this point.

    Fair enough.

The guy who there were rumors would be available, that'd I'd absolutely fire Tomlin for, is Bill O'Brien. Obviously it didn't happen, but I think he's one of the best 2-3 coaches in the league.

Really? 2-3 best? 31-33 record in 4 years.

The way the story goes is that Big Ben is the reason Haley is out.

    2. First name to pop into my head is Tom Coughlin.

Look, Tomlin isn't a bad coach. He's not anything special either. He's long been known to make questionable decisions in game. He's been there 11 years. He's still getting a pass from Steelers fans for the SB win almost 10 years ago. It's just time to move on. His "us against them, tough guy" mantra just isn't cutting it anymore. His obsession with the Patriots in recent years has distracted the team as well IMO.
    1. Seems like this line of reasoning should apply to Haley also. You can’t say Haley bringing in these offensive numbers would get most coordinators a head coaching job and in the same breath say Tomlin deserves to be fired and replaced.

    2. I just don’t see Tom Coughlin working out in Pittsburgh. He’d walk off the field after the first AB/JuJu TD celebration collaboration.

I’m not a Steelers or Bengals fan. At first glance I wouldn’t think there is a discipline problem on the Steelers but I am willing to listen to evidence saying otherwise. For me, discipline is more about dumb penalties on the field than social media antics.

They need a new DC. Not a new head coach.

As a Bengals fan I hope Tomlin stays in Pittsburgh.

I thought Haley did a pretty good job and now the Steelers may have a new OC and a new QB in a very short period of time.

I think the Steelers need more talent on Defense.

By discipline I mean more than just on field antics or dumb penalties. More about things like last week leading up to the Jags game it was all talk about the Patriots. Tomlin said he was ok with that. AB Facebook living the locker room last year. Just stupid stuff like that. You don’t see stuff like that from the Patriots. I may be wrong but I think the Patriots are who the Steelers aspire to be. A good start would be to act like the Patriots do.

Those are the types of numbers that typically get coordinators head coaching jobs....
Yea, fire this rotten offensive coordinator! Unproductive.

He failed to call the quarterback sneak on 4th down with his quarterback being a 35 year old, often injured player. I would love to see the reaction if Todd Haley called the QB sneak and Big Ben was injured. Then they ought to fire him.
