Packers sign Cedric Benson
James Starks is currently the No. 1 running back in Green Bay, but he suffered a turf toe injury on Thursday and will be sidelined for at least a week. The 29-year-old Benson will have a good chance of unseating Starks and becoming the Packers’ starter.

That is why I drafted him in Godots league. Knew someone would pick him up.

You would think but for some reason, pass happy offenses in the NFL don't run very well. Their line can pass block great but some of them seem to have trouble pushing the defensive line back on rushing plays. The Saints, Patriots, and Packers all filled that description last year. We'll see though. As a Packers fan, I hope that is exactly what Benson becomes because I have very little confidence in our running game.

I think Benson has some tread left on the tires and I hear what you are saying about throwing teams but I think with the threat of Rodgers Benson could have a really nice year.

The Packers have struggled running the ball the past two seasons. I think Benson is an upgrade but I'm not so sure their OLine is a good rush unit at this point. We'll get to see how much patience they have once he starts putting the ball on the turf. He didn't have any competition for the #1 spot in Cincinnati but he'll have two guys pushing him in Green Bay.

I think he will play with a chip on his shoulder this year. Huge get for GB IMO. I've had turf toe. If anybody has had it you know it's a major nagging injury that has ended a lot of careers. I hope Starks is OK but I can't see any way he could be back that fast. I tore ligaments in mine but had turf toe first. When your big toe is bad it's bad news in football!

I think he could be a valuable asset for the Packers. I think Benson is a better runner than Starks at 100%, much less with turf toe. If his turf toe lingers like I've seen in the past, Benson could very well be the primary ball carrier for the Pack. I don't think they run the ball enough for him to have a huge year, but he could give them what they need and provide more reliable production than they've had the last couple of years. Solid addition.
Obviously, the biggest question is his receiving skills.

Happy for Benson. Nice spot for him to land.

I like how the ad under Guru's post is about "dirt cheap penny stocks".
