I am so glad the Bengals dumped Chad Johnson...
“This season is going to be a monster year. I don’t care who’s playing quarterback. I’m going to have a great year,” Johnson said. “The first day I get to camp, everybody’s mouth can drop [the bleep] open. My game is at the point where it doesn’t matter who starts at quarterback. Oprah can play quarterback and we’ll be all right.”

This is not normally my DNA but I am almost to a point where I will root against Johnson/Dolphins. Remember I said almost, what I will really root for is whatever will help the Bengals each week.

Agreed. He is annoying with that stuff.

It baffles me that so many people still care so much about what he's doing. The fact that so many people hate a guy that's never been in trouble with the law and is always doing good/generous things for others is mind-boggling.

I agree he doesn't get in any legal trouble and that speaks highly of Chad. For me, I am interested in all stories Pro Football so I do a lot of reading, however, Chad's same, old, tired routine gets old.
I would be surprised if Chad has a monster year but hopefully he has some monster games against the right teams to help the Bengals.

I have always found the media infatuation with him the most perplexing. As I have said before, his trash talk between games and some endzone celebrations were cool, but beyond that the guy is terrible in front of a camera, not very interesting or insightful, and attempts to live his life as his alter-ego. He has become the 21 year old at high school keg parties.

Probably the best player at marketing himself in NFL history. Personally, I find him entertaining. His stuff is always from a fun side. I never found him annoying.

I remember getting killed on here years ago because I wanted him gone. He's entertaining because he's so dumb and never stops talking. He does have a good sense of humor and I love the side of him that surprises the fans by letting them do things they don't normally get to do. I think that's a big draw for a lot of his backers and I can understand that. The shame of it is if he would have put the time in to learning the playbook that he puts into goofing off on things like Twitter then he might have gotten a ring with one of the best QB's ever. He had 15 catches! OK you're going to really light it up w Miami's QB's as opposed to that terrible Tom Brady! Reminds me of Kahlil taking out the add in the Charlotte paper today saying the Panthers are going to win it all. In their world the think they are amazing and unstoppable. In the real world they continue to make themselves look like bigger idiots.
I'm with you G! Can you imagine A Dalton having to put up with that side show with all the optimism around Cincy's future?

None of the young stud WR's are of the same mold as their predecessors (Chad, Moss, TO). An interesting contrast. Look at some of the top wideouts in the league now compared to those guys.
Calvin Johnson, Greg Jennings, Roddy White, Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Wallace, Andre Johnson
There are others for sure, but these guys aren't like TO and Ocho and Moss. Certainly they want the ball and they may speak out occasionally if they aren't getting it, but rarely, and no way close to the previous guys. I think the "diva" moniker for WR's has run its course. The current batch doesn't fit the bill, IMO. They want the ball (like all great players), but they are characterized by their work ethic and ability on the field, not by their mouths.

I agree with you. I like Chad, always have. I think he's pretty much done now, so the talking doesn't register much for me.

It really is a contrast in personas.
I will say unlike most I never put Chad in the upper echelon of WRs. Greg Jennings/Roddy White type level is where I have always seen him. Mid to lower half of top 10 receivers in the NFL. I think it has been shown that he is not the most heady of individuals, especially on the football field. GMs have always raved at how smart Moss and T.O. were on the chalkboard.

His rants are tiring. I wished his teammates over the years would have told him to shut up and let your playing do the talking.

I was fine with the talking and antics. When he went HOF jacket, changed his name, and consumed his life with being Ocho he lost me. Kiss the baby

I thought his antics (at least the TD celebrations) were refreshing in what was becoming the No Fun League. Chad, TO, and Joe Horn had some good ones.

I did not like the name change.

Hated the HOF jacket thing. Other than that, I always looked forward to Chad's TD celebrations.

I agree. I don't think he was ever in the top tier, but at his best, he was at or near the top of that next tier. I think the God-given physical gifts are what separates those guys for the most part. Chad, like Jennings and White today, just aren't as physically gifted as those top guys. But, few are and they are still more gifted than the majority of the league's players.

I have always found Chad to be entertaining. For most of his career he was very productive. Perhaps the Bengals' all time best receiver.
Father time has been knocking for the past couple of seasons.
But...it is not like we have great choices at the #2 receiver spot. 2010 was not an overly productive season for Chad, but his 67 catches in 2010 were more than Simpson or Caldwell had last year. Chad's 4 touchdowns in 2010 were more than Simpson or Caldwell had last year.
I'm not sure that I would pick Chad for the #2 spot this year over Tate, Binns or Sanu but I think he would be in the mix.

He use to give us a reason to watch the games at least for his antics.
