Funny comment about Whitworth in an ESPN article - (Thread title edited)

Along with Green, the Bengals also were without linebackers Rey Maualuga and Emmanuel Lamur, who suffered serious injuries in the 37-37 overtime tie. Maualuga has a left hamstring injury that was so bad he needed to be carted off the sideline in the fourth quarter Sunday. It's likely he will miss multiple weeks.

Lamur also left the game in the fourth quarter after picking up a left shoulder injury. He had worn a sling Sunday and Monday, but he wasn't wearing one Wednesday when both the locker room and practice were open.

The Bengals did see two previously injured players practice fully Wednesday. Running backGiovani Bernard, who had a right shoulder issue following a hard shot from Luke Kuechly that forced him briefly out of Sunday's game, practiced without limitation. Bernard was apparently so healthy that he didn't even end up on the injury report. Also practicing fully was right guardKevin Zeitler. The starting lineman was hurt in Week 2 but appears poised to make a return this week depending on how his leg holds up in practices.

    Here's Cincinnati's full injury report:

    OUT
WR Marvin Jones (ankle -- went on IR Tuesday)

    DID NOT PRACTICE
    WR A.J. Green (toe)
    LB Rey Maualuga (hamstring)
    LB Emmanuel Lamur (shoulder)
    DT Brandon Thompson (knee)
OT Andrew Whitworth (veteran's day off)
    OL Mike Pollak (knee)
    DE Wallace Gilberry (eye)

    LIMITED PRACTICE PARTICIPATION
    S George Iloka (groin)
    OT Andre Smith (shoulder)

    FULL PRACTICE PARTICIPATION
    OG Kevin Zeitler (calf)

There have been multiple players receiving vet days off for the past few weeks. Skinner and other report them every week. It's not a shot at Whit, just reporting the facts.

That is true. All Bengal reports from practice on 700 WLW and 1530 Homer list veterans who are given the day off practice. Almost all the lineman have been held out of practice for day at some point this season and not for injury just for a veterans day off. Other teams are doing it also.

Here is the ESPN report from last week before the Carolina game: Bowling took a Vet Day too

In addition to Green and Jones' absences, the Bengals also were without offensive linemen Clint Boling and Andrew Whitworth. They were taking their customary veteran's day off as they rest up for Friday's walk-through. Right guard Kevin Zeitler also took the day off after practicing Wednesday. He's still slowly making his way back from a calf injury suffered during a goal-line score in Week 2 against the Falcons.

Zeitler may not have formally practiced Thursday, but he did go through conditioning exercises on a side field along with other hurt players like tight end Tyler Eifert. Following the Bengals' Week 1 win over Baltimore, Eifert was put on the short-term injured reserve with a designation to return Nov. 6. This was the second practice this week that Eifert worked out on the side. It was the first practice defensive tackle Brandon Thompson worked out on the side following a knee injury he sustained during that same physical Falcons game.

    Here's the full injury report:

    DID NOT PRACTICE
    OG Clint Boling (vet day)
    OT Andrew Whitworth (vet day)
    WR A.J. Green (great toe)
    WR Marvin Jones (ankle)
    DT Brandon Thompson (knee)
    OG Kevin Zeitler (calf)

    LIMITED PRACTICE PARTICIPATION
    S George Iloka (abdomen)
    LB Rey Maualuga (shoulder)
    LB Vincent Rey (calf)

    FULL PRACTICE PARTICIPATION
    LB Vontaze Burfict (concussion)
    OG Mike Pollak (knee)

Humorous perhaps, but I don't see how that's a shot at him. Seems like you were being overly sensitive with the thread title. I expected to read the article and see the writer shamelessly ripping on Whitworth or something. You been hanging around with these hypersensitive UK fans too long.

    Wrong.

I mistook it for a shot at Whit when in fact it is a SOP.

And I don't care for Whit.

I am going to edit the title.

I'm not sure I understand the veteran day off thing. Do some Bengals players get a day off just because they have more time in? Is there a rookie day off as well? Seems stupid to me.
