Do Bengals draft a QB in Round 1?

With Dalton's contract and AJ gone soon .........................

CBS Sports says yes with Baker Mayfield as the 9th pick and 3rd QB taken in Round 1.

Another site says yes and its Lamar Jackson.

    What say you?

Unless the Bengals can trade back. I doubt they go interior lineman with most likely a top 7 pick. Usually interior lineman don't go until late 1st round or early 2nd. Only tackles go in the top 10.

Agreed. I would love to have Mayfield and his mobility would help behind the line. Not to mention he actually looks to make plays out of the pocket and doesn't just give up on a play so quick like Dalton. However as much as I want to see them move on From Dalton. He isnt going anywhere. He is here until his contract is up most likely.

Let me be more specific. Incorrectly used the word interior. They need to take the best offensive lineman/defensive lineman available. Anything else is silly. No need to take a QB, WR, or RB that high and I don't know that any TE prospects are ranked that highly.

I would say position group priority as follows:

    1. OL/DL (specifically an OT and pass rushing DE)
    2. DB
    3. QB
    4. TE
    5. LB
    6. Everything else.

A lot of the experts' opinions can change between now and draft day. As of today, my prediction is they draft Lamar in round 2. I think he will still be there based on what I am hearing the draft experts say.

Round 1 has to be an offensive lineman.

Yeah I'm going Tackle in the first, then Billy Price in the 2nd. If they want to take a QB I'm taking a project in the 3rd round.

I really like Mayfield obviously, but I just don't think QB should be a top priority with other huge needs. Average QBs can be successful with a really good O line and Defense. Just look at Jacksonville and Minnesota. Case Keenum, Blake Bortles, Andy Dalton. All essentially the same guy.

So you think Mayfield is a franchise level NFL QB, but just not one your favorite NFL team should draft. This is fantastic...

I've said several times that I would love the Bengals to draft Mayfield. I just don't think upgrading the QB position while not upgrading bigger positions of need is the wisest decision. My point was this team would be better with a improved O line and an average QB, than an above average QB and the same bad O line.

3 #1 picks on the Oline. I thought the Bengals where experts at having good drafts.
