Other than age difference, I see Smith and Cousins as same guy. Cousins will get his.

The move doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me for the Redskins. Seems like a good get for the Chiefs, especially since they weren't going to use him anyway.

The Redskins don't want to pay Cousins what he will command in free agency so they got the next best thing.

Cousins is the top QB free agent and will command an estimated salary of $25-30 million. He also said he would prefer to go to a place where he has a chance to win. He is in the driver's seat.

The Browns tried to trade for Smith but the Chiefs went with the Redskins.

Cousins wasn't going to resign with the Redskins, so they went out and got a very comparable guy for less. I don't see an issue with it.

And a contract extension with $71M guaranteed. Nuts.

Patrick Mahomes. The QB they traded up to draft this past year.

Thanks, I knew they had "someone" but couldn't remember who.

So wow Chiefs, definitely taking a risk on 2018.

This isn't a move geared towards 2018. They know they have no shot right now. Might as well try to improve for the future.

I haven't been following along, I thought the Chiefs were pretty solid this past year and I can't imagine them going in with a mindset that 2018 is more about the future than it is 2018.

They started out strong, they faded to the #4 seed. Could they maybe make the playoffs again, sure, but Smith was going to be a FA after the 2018 season I believe. By trading up last year they let it be known that he didn't have a future in KC. The likelihood of them being able to compete with or without Smith with Jax, Pitt and obviously NE next year was pretty much 0. Might as well get something in return for him when you can, instead of letting him walk next year.

Fantastic deal for both sides. Both teams have their QBs for next year. IMO Mahomes has a chance to be really special. I loved what I saw from him in the preseason this past year.

I’m curious to see where Cousins lands. The talk is he is going to be the highest paid player in the league wherever he signs, which just seems ridiculous. I know he needs to follow the money, but I’m doing everything I can to get into John Elways ear if I’m Cousins.
