Bengals tight lipped on 85% rule
The Bengals have been very tight lipped on what they plan to do this season regarding the NFL's new stipulation that team's can televise home games with only 85% of the stadium full.
The team has several weeks before they have to tell the league office of their plan.
Tampa Bay has already told the NFL they will invoke the 85% guideline. San Diego and Buffalo have both already told the league they will not.
My guess is this a big deal to Bengals fans, and if they don't invoke the kinder blackout option, it could turn into a hot topic pretty quickly.
To me, this smells a lot like what JJ was saying in another thread is very true. But, what do I know. Let's hear what you guys think.

I will be surprised if they go to 85%. It's helping them that other teams are saying no thanks.

Buffalo and Cincinnati are often if the same mind.

Does the home team get any additional money if the game is televised locally? I know everybody shares portions of the money that the league negotiates with the networks, but didn't know if there was any financial benefit for teams to have their home games broadcast locally? If there isn't, then I say there's no way Mikey will allow any more "freeloaders" to get to watch the game for free.

With Mike Brown it will be all about the money and what will benefit him and the Brown family business.

Even though it may suck for us fans, why shouldn't it be that way? I know I sure wish I was making the money that he does.

Just so I'm clear on this, it appears BGP nation is going to be okay if the Bengals waive the 85% option.
Personally, I won't be. The city basically gave the Brown family an NFL franchise and the county built them a stadium. I think a little good will is in order on this one. The Reds have shown an excellent example in the "fan friendly" area. Bengals need to follow suit.
I like the Bengals and hope they do well. It's better for the city in general when they do. But, I admit, I'm not as die hard as many on here are. If they aren't, well there is tennis to be played, leaves to be raked, and so on.

I never mind a good Sam Wyche reference.

Wyche was my boy. I always like it when someone gets my former pop-references.
