How do you know the "proper decision" was made. Have you seen the opinion? If so, please post a copy. I'd like to read it.
No one tried to "get around the system." The KHSAA made conflicting rulings. The last ruling by the KHSAA was against Mitchell. He filed a lawsuit which he - like you if it happened to you - had a right to do. The court sided with Mitchell. The Court of Appeals reviewed that decision and reversed it, ruling Mitchell was ineligible. That's how the system works. No one is getting around anything.
The questionable aspect of this decision is the timing. If it's important enough to rule on quickly, the Court of Appeals should have done so. Instead they chose to wait until a few days before the championship game. It's inexcusable on the part of the Court of Appeals.
