Estill County returns long range shooting guard Benton but took a hit with the loss of O’Hare, a 6’4 senior who moved back to his home county of Breathitt. I’m not sure where they rank in the district but I would imagine with the loss of most of last year’s region winning starters that they’ll be second to Powell County. But with a high school of 700 students it’s hard to ever count the Engineers completely out. I’ve seen schools with that kind...

His speaking techniques have gotten better over the years. I can remember when he used to appear nervous and constantly licked his lips or wiped his mouth with a handkerchief. His dilivery has really improved. It’s almost as if he’s been taking speech lessons.

Most things I’ve read have Breathitt County rated around 3rd or 4th in the region, I suppose behind Knott County Central, Hazard and Perry County Central. Having O’Hare move back from Estill County will really help. The 6’4 forward was a key ingredient in Estill County’s journey to the Sweet 16 last March. And as long as they have John Noble as head coach they are always going to be in the mix. He’s very skilled in coaching tactics, great...

In the Kansas situation Gassnola is saying that he paid players or their associates money but none of the coaches were aware. We all know that’s very likely untrue but I agree with Deuce that not much is going to result from this. The NCAA (and Sports Illustrated) hammered UK very hard back in the 1989 money scandal under Sutton, but the NCAA is more lax these days than in the past. Plus there’s too many big name schools involved in this and...

Looks like itís going to be very good from the previews. Thereís some controversy from the production not showing the American flag planting on the moonís surface not being shown but from what I understand the flag is seen throughout the rest of the movie on the spacecrafts, astronautís gear, and other places. Second man on the moon Buzz Aldrin was one of the first to be vocal about it, though.

Who’s the odds favorite in the Boston-Houston series? I don’t follow baseball like I did years ago but I did watch the Astros win it all last year and if they still have that same pitching staff they will be difficult for Red Sox hitters.

I think I’ve had four in 14 years. My first was Mr. Hand from Fast Times at Ridgemont High movie. Then when our new 9 hole golf course opened in 2007 I had a Sag Hollow logo. I had a pic of the Gilligan’s Island professor and crew for a long time before going to the one I now have of the Nutty Professor.

Old Letcher High School (pre-consolidation) and Whitesburg, another Letcher County Central consolidated school, dominated the region from the beginnings of regional volleyball back in the early ‘90s and the new school has dominated it since. Letcher County schools have pretty much had a lock on regional titles for nearly 3 decades. So it doesn’t surprise me that they’re at the top again this year.

Reminds me of the famous Everett Dirksen quote in Congress when they were talking about spending on the Vietnam War. He said, “A billion here and a billion there and pretty soon we’re talking about real money here.” Lol. That might not be verbatim but it’s close.

My comment is in a different sport but our high school girls and boys basketball teams this year signed up with a company that takes game video and does the stats for the teams. That’ll be as close to accurate as possible. I think the cost is $1200 for both programs. Do any football programs do this?

Some of the dialogue in the Looney Tune cartoons was hilarious. Foghorn told Miss Prissy in one episode that she reminded him of the road between Fort Worth and Dallas.....no curves. And Daffy pulled a six shooter on a bad guy in a western spoof and the bad guy bit off the barrel. Daffy looks at the audience and says, “Musta not taken his iron this morning.” Lol

Bugs Bunny and all the Looney Toon cartoons. The best cartoons ever produced. My next favorite is the Tom and Jerry cartoons. Those two are miles in front of any competitors.

For those who are saying this hands on discipline approach is acceptable why is it unacceptable in other sports, particularly basketball? As Iíve already mentioned, it got Sean Woods suspended for a few games and he had to apologize.

Because something like this was acceptable in the good ‘ol days doesn’t make it right. This is not a good look for Jimbo. If I were a parent of a recruit trying to make a decision where my son played and I was leaning toward Jimbo and A&M seeing something like this onTV would un-lean me in a second. Same thing for basketball. There’s other ways for a coach to get his point across without putting his hands on his players. It got Sean Woods...

I agree. Ive been impressed with Schauffle's game since last year. I believe he would have been very good at this event. Also Kisner would have helped too. I think those two could have at least found the fairway at a higher percentage than some of these guys.

The story of the US in this Ryder Cup is too much playing from the rough and can’t find their “ta-warge” (that’s a local term used at my home course, lol) with makeable putts. And Reed, Bryson, and Phil completely lost their games and confidence.

If they think it will lead to classification theyíve got their thinking in reverse. Itís just the opposite. It will keep classification at bay. Without the statewide All A starting in 1990 we would possibly already have KHSAA basketball classification. The All A stopped any discussions in their tracks and thatís a good thing in my opinion. My cousin who retired from teaching in Indiana has told me numerous times that he would have liked to have...
