Chances missed and chances converted. That was the difference in the game. McClure pitched brilliantly over 6 IP except for 2 pitches. 9 Ks and allowed only 3 hits (1 of which was a bleeder, excuse me swing) and 1 BB, but all 4 of those baserunners scored on 2 HRs. Singer was awesome and didn't give the Cards much early and the Cards didn't convert on opportunities in the 7th and 8th innings with several LOB. Baseball is a cruel...

Bordner was a boss. Henzman was a boss. UofL responded with 2 in the bottom of the inning after A&M got within 1 and that was huge. CWS is an amazing event. Shocked at how many people come regardless of whether their team is here. Entire region is invested in folks having a good time. Fan Fest, tailgates, pop-up stores, etc., it's all here like a Super Bowl, ASG or Final Four. "Greatest Show on Dirt."

I get your point and I don't disagree. That said, how hard would it have been to actually get it right? Instead of "The NCAA, as of today, has instructed UofL to vacate its 2013 national title, a first in men's basketball history. Appeal to come," make it "The NCAA has instructed UofL to provide data which would vacate its 2013 national title, a first in men's basketball history. Appeal to come."

Crawford's tweet is imprecise at best and technically incorrect. The NCAA has instructed UofL to provide names within 45 days. Once NCAA gets those names, they will vacate wins and titles. UofL (Smrt) has apparently said the names UofL would have to provide would include 108 wins and 15 NCAA games (including title). Precision of language is important in journalism and lacking here.

1230 presser should be interesting. My guess, based on their cooperation during the investigation and NCAA's adoptions of many of the self-imposed sanctions, is that they knew what was coming and will have a communications strategy to explain those portions of the sanctions which are not clear from the NCAA statement (e.g., what does 4 yr. probation involve?; what games are vacated?; is the NCAA title vacated?, etc.)

Apples and rutabagas. Lerner invoked her 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination and the Obama administration had expressly NOT claimed executive privilege. In this case, Sessions did not plead the 5th and while Trump has had press people say he won't claim executive privilege, he has not taken a firm stance either way yet. Further to the comment above that this is political rather than judicial: Despite her assertion of 5th...

That's not how it works. If you are under oath in front of the Senate or in Court, you have to answer unless you have a privilege (attorney client, spousal, executive, etc.) to assert allowing you not to answer. If the privilege has not been asserted, you are in contempt if you don't answer. You don't get to say "Trump might assert it in the future so I won't answer." Same is true for Rogers and Coats last week. (I think they answered many of...

So GOP holds commanding majority in House, Majority in Senate and the Presidency and it is the Dems who are "slow any work Trump tries to get done?" How exactly does that work? They control what gets voted on and when it gets voted on so if there are any delays in Trump's agenda, McConnell and Ryan get the blame, not the Dems. Dems do have the right to filibuster in the Senate until the GOP changes that rule for everything, not just SCOTUS...

Would be disappointed if the Reds passed on McKay if he doesn't go #1 but that's driven by my bias. Greene has bigger upside, but is farther away and has bigger downside as well. They pointed out on SAT that with ~100 IP already by the time CWS ends, whoever drafts him is unlikely to have him throw many innings in 2017. Would be a good opportunity to let him hit and play 1B the rest of the year when he gets assigned and then start planning his...

Some would view that as a compromise between "throwing off" against an allegedly inferior opponent in Radford and going with McKay. By keeping them on their regular rest since last week they don't disrupt anything and McKay is still assured of getting to pitch. They are also a slightly better offensive club when McClure pitches since Ellis can play 3B, McKay can play 1B and ? can DH. (Would assume Snider will DH, but never know with a LHP for...

He had 35 pitches over 3.1 to close out the NC State GM7 on MON night. 4 days rest is better than 3 days rest considering the 107 pitches he made last FRI over 7.0 against Ohio.

Thought it was interesting that Price commented that Lorenzen could play some OF in a pinch. Obviously not a long term solution, but if you can even consider that at the MLB level, why wouldn't you let McKay pitch in a rotation and DH/1B on other days as he works his way through the minor league system. If you really see him as a hitter, concerns about injury while pitching are minimal. If you see him as a SP, you might be a LITTLE more...

MLB.com 217 Prospect Watch | MLB.com Fitch (146) and Thompson (165) from UofL will be interesting to watch. Have to figure McKay (2), Ellis (61), Hairston (131) and Henzman (163) sign unless something falls apart and they drop a ton. Hairston because he has nothing left to prove as a 3 yr. starter and is valued where he is (although I agree with McDonnell - if he was 6'1" with the exact same stats he'd be a top 40 pick). Henzman because he...

FRI at Noon SAT at Noon SUN at Noon (if necessary). All tickets are sold out (including chair back reserved, general admission & SRO). Should be fun. Not sure about UK, but suspect UofL rotation will be McKay, McClure and Bennett since all are on full rest and that has been the rotation since ACC play started.

His slash line is well above the league average. That is great and encouraging for his production. It is, however, an imprecise measure of his effectiveness in those situations where you're looking not just for hits but also productive outs to bring in that runner. Based on the above, it appears he has 5 H, 1 SF and 3 K in the 12 PA. 3 PA results are unknown. At worst, he "performed" in 6 of the 12 PA (50%). At best, he "performed" in 9 of...

UofL C takes all signs from bench (Roger Williams) and then reads wristband to call pitch. Most teams do that nowadays. Whether strategy or not, UofL is very slow getting signs to C with runners on base. Can't argue with the results over a long period of time, but man is it tedious.

Very limited statistical analysis (basically the UofL baseball radio guy announces the player's stats in these situations - not sure if he keeps them himself OR gets them from the UofL internal statkeepers) and a ton of games watched at all levels, but I'd say 50% and below is bad, 50-65% is acceptable and > 65% is good. The fact that it is either a stat that is not kept OR one that is not circulated widely prevents much more than anecdotal...

Anyone have a box score? Q says 10 Ks for Rom in the last 5 and I'm pretty sure Dreves had at least 4 in the 1st 2 IP. That would be at least 14 of the 21 outs. Leadoff walks in the 1st 3 innings were the biggest knock on the pitching. #11 for Conner had both hits they secured.

Totally deserved it. Had great ABs every time he was up there. Hit the ball hard even when he made outs. Handled the pitching staff very well and was a wall behind the dish. Hard to believe a player that got all 3 Ws in the 9th Region (I assume he got the W on TUE even though he only had 2+ IP given it was a 5 inning affair and Birds were up big when he was pulled to allow him to come back THU), batted 5th and played RF did not win the MVP....

Not great, but also not what he is asked to do primarily. I would really like to see this statistic quantified and tracked. There are a ton of situations that would have to be addressed to make it uniform: A - Runner on 3B only or runners on 2B & 3B and batter draws a walk or is HBP? I say 0-0. Can't be 1-1 b/c he didn't get the run home, but it shouldn't be 0-1 b/c he did a good thing offensively in that situation. B - What if in the...

We are "assuming" because it appears that you answered a slightly different question than Sumo alluded to. There is a stat (not official, I am sure) that asks for how many times a batter gets a runner on 3B with < 2 outs home. From the information given, we still don't appear to know about 3 ABs (1 HR, 4 singles, 2 Ks). If he popped up 3x on the IF, his % of getting runners home would be 50% which, as I said, is not very good. If he hit 3 deep...

Assume that is his actual batting average. Assume Sumo was asking about getting that runner home. 75% is good for that stat. If his other 5 ABs are Ks, 50% rate of getting runner home from 3B with < 2 out is not very good.
