It's traditionally a great bet to go against West Coast teams shipping east and playing in the 1pm time slot. I don't know how well that's held up this year, though.

For the first time in … ever, the soccer region championship involving schools from the Hardin/Nelson areas will not feature a team from the E'town district. More often than not, it's been E'town HS dominating this region, with Central Hardin sneaking in a few times until the past three seasons. Never have two teams from the Bardstown area faced off in the finals. Bardstown and two-time defending champ Bethlehem meet up for the 4th time this...

Actually, that's the case if and only if Henry Co. beats Waggener. If that happens, Henry moves up to the No. 2 seed and then TNHS is in a H2H with Bardstown for the No. 4 spot. But if it remains a 3-way tie for the 3 and 4 seeds with Henry, TNHS and Bardstown, it goes to the points system. Henry has more points based on their out-of-district beaten opponents' win totals, so they would be No. 3. Thomas Nelson plays Bethlehem the last game...

If it shakes out the way I'm seeing it, here's the matchups: Bardstown/Thomas Nelson at Belfry Henry Co. at Lawrence Co. Pike Central at Waggener Sheldon Clark at Central TNHS, B'town and Henry Co. are headed toward a three-way tie for the 3 and 4 seeds in 3AD3. Henry Co. has more points from non-district wins than TNHS or B'town. To get their first-ever playoff berth, Thomas Nelson needs to beat Bethlehem at home the last week of the...

I was talking with Thomas Nelson's coach yesterday and he said Harper's injury looked nasty, and that he hoped it wasn't as bad as it seemed. Possible ACL tear?

Lamar and a bunch of dudes. Petrino has never grasped the concept of recruiting depth at positions. If UofL can ever aspire to be able to threaten the big dogs, things can't fall apart with a couple of injuries, even if it's to good/great players. We've seen this movie before.

If they don't allow a return from inside the EZ in HS, why would they allow it if your foot is on the goal line? They blow touchbacks for kicks in this situation. Shouldn't 99 yards be the max length in HS?

I fixed that for you, as that's a more fair statement. More than 2/3 of the team is freshmen and sophomores, and they graduated 17 seniors last year from a 2-loss team.

While not T25, top-seeded Bardstown was upset by Bethlehem in the 19th. Bethlehem then upset Nelson Co. in tonight's finals. Didn't see that coming.

If it means enough to get junior to that greener grass on the other side of the fence, I've found that parents will chose to do so. But that's their choice. Sure, but it's a self-imposed one. Blame Boone Co. Schools and not the KHSAA. The KHSAA has regulatory power over sports, not how a school chooses to fill its hallways.

Obviously, big AAU events give college coaches the best chance to see the most amount of players, and try to figure out how those guys can either fit into their program, or have a program molded around. In HS games, however, you get to see the player at a different intensity level, since he's playing for community pride and such. It obviously gets a lot bigger if that player's team plays in a big atmosphere such as the Sweet 16. They display...

Some of those losses can be attributed to this, but that piece of the pie is but a sliver when you consider the losses because of cord-cutters. Don't blow it up to make it seem like it's the sole reason, the way the POTUS has. ESPN and the NFL are under assault for a lot of things (concussions, high subscription rates, criminal behavior, sexism, just to name a few). I would say concussions is the single biggest reason the NFL is losing fans,...

Same channels they've been playing on, too. And if not there, it's MLB Network. It doesn't require someone with the remote skillz of Mack The Knife to figure it out. Plus, you can always check your phone. The CBS Sports app tells you what network every game is playing on, in all sports.

I find that even though the basic circumstances are similar i.e., mass shooting with multiple deaths the buildings themselves are completely different entities. The school is not in the business of making money, at least not in traditional capitalistic ways. The hotel, however, is. And if that hotel can find a niche market that is interested in paying enough money for the "privilege" in staying in such an historically macabre location, I...

I'm glad I had to work and wasn't able to watch this abortion take place at some bar, where I'd have spent $30 bucks (likely more since I also play Keno) for the privilege. Ugh. Instead I barely had time to look at a TV and I made $140 and got very good exercise. I feel blessed. And is it time to start having the conversation about Ben as it relates to Willie Mays with the Mets or Johnny U with the Chargers, or Pete Rose playing add-on...

I guess I can sub "Bob Stoops" for OU and it still stands. Kinda like I'll believe in UGa if they can win in Jacksonville.

Bob Stoops is nothing if not consistent. At least on a yearly basis. You never know from where or whom it's coming from, but you know that forehead-slapping upset is coming. Seems like it's always October, too.

The ultimate lesson here, of course, is don't be friends with your soon-to-be-food. That means all farm animals. Including Wilbur, who provides very tasty bacon, ribs, loin, shoulder, intestines, feets, and many other delicacies.
