  3. So three times in the last 12 years. I would say that its rare!
  4. Thanks for your response. You are one of my favorite reads on here I respect and enjoy reading your perspective. As to the thread subject, I too am hoping but strongly believe that Coach Rodenberg stays at Cov. Cath, for a long time. I am confident that the CCH Administration, Parents and Boosters all recognizes what Coach R and his “Staff” has accomplished in just “18 months” and not just a “State Championship”. (It took Coach Ray 12 years to get CCH their 1st Championship and in no way is that a “knock” on Lynn. In my opinion it just demonstrates what condition the program was in back in mid ‘70’s versus what it’s like today. “Five Rings” in 17 years is a tremendous achievement and know one can ever take that away from Coach Ray). I’ve heard Coach Rodenberg say many times that one of the reasons he took the CCH job was to continue to build onto the tradition that “Coach Ray” has established in Park Hills. Regarding my point of more than a “Championship” you mentioned “Rodenberg’s System” and being a great x and o’s coach. (I think that speaks for itself.) Not to be overlooked but Coach R has done an outstanding job in assembling his staff most came with him from McNick, Gerry Beauchamp, Jim Hautman, Jeremiah Larbes, Mike Meiners others Coach Matt Haskamp, Jack Hering, Jeff McCarthy and Greg Popham who did not. These coaches all have been great leaders and roll models for many, my son included. As in business or athletics you will only be successful by surrounding yourself with “good people”. Also Coach R brought in “Film Night” at Cov Cath which has also been a great success. What a great opportunity for parents and boosters to get a “peak under the tent”. It takes a certain type of Coach to be able to get up and review the prior game “win or lose” but with little “Johnnys” Dad or Mom, most coach’s choose not to do, some will say that’s not my job. This was something Coach R bought with him I know this is not exclusive to CCH but does happen more over in the GCL. But Coach R believes it’s a good opportunity to get parents and boosters more informed and an opportunity to “buy in” what he’s attempting to do plus deflect any negativity that may exist within the program. I have had the opportunity to hear Coach R speak many times and he is a “Great Ambassador” for CCH. Last year just after he had accepted the CCH job I shared with a “mutual friend” that If Coach R can “Coach” half as good as he can speak CCH is not going to have any regrets with this hire. I recall this years CCH/Highlands game at Highlands was “Senior Day” for you guys. As was the same last year at Cov. Cath. Both ended with the same results for the home team. Personally I felt it was too much distraction from such big game. I noticed Highlands had 24 or 25 seniors as “almost always” this year. IMO successful programs win with seniors. Cov Cath had about as many as Highlands this year with 17 of those guys starting. (Another big factor to this years success) This could present a problem if you have not prepared those juniors to step up. This is another area that Coach R and his staff has done a great job is the development of CCH JV program. Like Highlands and many of the successful GCL programs, Cov. Cath now plays a full JV schedule. I think they only had one game canceled this year. Not that development of a your JV is a little thing but for the most part goes unnoticed, it doesn’t get the press if you will, but pays off big time. It allows you to reload and not rebuild. Since coming in last year Coach R and CCH staff have run separate practices for JV / Varsity and the freshman resulting in having more kids getting more opportunity to play and develop each year. You can’t have 30+ kids standing around everyday not getting a chance to play and learn. Then expect to retain them or develop them to be ready when it’s their time. This all helping to build upon a winning attitude at home as well as in the locker room and more young men wanting to be a part of “the program”. So often others on the outside look at the Highlands, Beechwood, NCC and CCH as being some how “advantaged”. I feel that one has made the other better. The coaches and the players all know “I better be working my butt off in the off season” because that is what is going on in Ft. Thomas, Ft Mitchell, Newport or Park Hills. IMO that is what separates these programs in NKY. As to your observations regarding the offensive scheme ’05 versus ’06, I’m in complete agreement. Anyone’s offense should always IMO 1st be based of off what kind of QB he has. Josh has a tremendous arm, good size and good speed and is a load to bring down. Again what Coach R was able to accomplish with Josh this year was tremendous as well as scary if I’m an opposing Coach. What could he do with a young man that comes up through his system? I think Coach R really tried to limit how much Josh ran the ball early on because he was way too valuable and would be the most difficult to replace if injured. I think you did not see Josh doing much of the bootleg till playoff time. Brandon and Brent were very good plus lucky to get Brent back after his injury. A little luck never hurts. The o-line really kept getting better every week as has been mentioned before. I believe the no huddle and spread will always be Coach R’s base package. But how do you “adjust” to what the other guy is trying defend you with is what separates the good from the great. When I was in school I had the opportunity to play for a few coaches back in the day as my kids like to say. The man who had the most influence on me was the “Great” Jim Connor. I often said that if I had a son, that Coach Connor was the type of coach or teacher that I’d want my son to play for. That opportunity never came. But I will say I’m proud that my son did have the opportunity to play for Coach Rodenberg, John’s a good person and a class act in addition to being a heck of a coach. John and his staff have been and continue to be very positive influence in my son’s life even though he just had a year under their leadership. Merry Christmas to you and yours as well, maybe I should have broken this up and would have gotten me over the 200th post. :thumb:
  5. You must be a "Top 24" selection to be one of the finalists for "That’s My Boy". Some of the more important criteria are GPA, extra curricular activities, community involvement, class rank are some as I understand in addition to being recognized for their football achievements.
  6. LN – first off let me say I have the utmost respect for Dale and the Highlands program. Dale and I have been friends now for far too many years. By no means am I claiming that Rodenberg is a Highlands killer. I was just “sharing” what I “heard”, which happens all too much on here. Regarding last year you won’t get any arguments from me, I would have liked to have seen what they could have done with the ‘05 group with that being his "second" year. I do believe that Rodenberg & his staff have demonstrated a keen ability to make adjustments. Last year they tried to straight "two platoon" with the occasional player seeing action on both sides. That hurt when it can down to the end of the season. This year Cov Cath had many more players going both ways exampled with Peter Sutton and Brandon Brown just to mention a couple. That proved to be one of the major difference makers for this years team IMO. Heck Joe C never did get his shot on offense after his injury, I still would have liked to seen how Defensive Coordinators would have chosen to matched up 4 wide with Joe, Bo, Brandon and Peter. As for ’04, I’m of the opinion that “probably” the two All State transfers never leave CCH for Fort Thomas and I’ll just leave it at that, but that’s just my opinion. I would like to think you would agree Rodenberg’s offensive scheme has demonstrated the ability to put points on the board which was “the” problem in ’04 for CCH. Who’s Tretzel is he now a candidate “if” Rodenberg was to leave? I was wondering and not having that good of memory, who and when was the last team that Highlands has lost "two games" to in the same year? I’m sure you may recall something as that even though it’s relatively rare. Well Merry Christmas ! I think I only need a few more posts to get to that 200 mark.
  7. BF that is clever, maybe you can help me put up one of those cool avatars? :thumb: But really I’m just trying to get to that 200th post plateau, now after however many years of being a BGP member. As for being proud you bet and certainly Ecstatic!!
  8. Well hear we go again!! - I hope I can get this in before this one closes. I'm sure there are plenty of folks from "the Christmas walk in Fort Thomas" and some other areas of NKY that have already added something like that already to there "Santa WISH List's". I was also speculating over the weekend myself, at the "Colonels 2006 State Championship" party. That IF Coach R. and his staff had come one year earlier in 2004 that CCH might have been celebrating a 3-peat, '04,’05 and ‘06. IMHO! But one can only speculate! I mean……….. I still remember hearing that guy after the 2nd CCH/HHS game at Cov Cath. saying - "John Rodenberg" - Dale Mueller's and the team from Fort Thomas, "Worst Nightmare". I think he may have hit on something.
  9. Outstanding, exceptional, terrific, wonderful, stupendous, dazzling, marvelous, excellent, GREAT – all appropriate in describing Covington Catholic Colonels 2006 season. What a special accomplishment for the CCH players, coaches, students, faculty and administration. Last night after the congratulatory hugs, handshakes, awards and team celebration, I watched with Colonels pray together before they left the field for the bus ride home. I happened to hear all the way up in the second level of the stadium. The Colonels all closed the prayer after giving Thanks with “Great Run” and that it’s been for this very special group of young men. These seniors were undefeated as freshman and now go out 12-3, Undefeated in Kentucky and STATE CHAMPIONS. Just Awesome! :dancingpa - in Park Hills on Monday morning !!
  10. I stand corrected 1990 was Nate's senior football season that would make him a '91 Grad. One must remember I did not go to CCH, the Mrs. tries to keep that a secret. Bye the way I've sat by YOU before, why have I not gotten any hugs ?
  11. I could not agree with more. She does it all to make CCH & the Football program so very special for the boys and parents. I completely agree "She is awesome". . Don't forget Mackenzie she will be at NDA next year, Lil Mac, Sheila in training ! :dancingpa
  12. Dale - I could not agree with you more. Brandon should have made it as a DB, lead Cov Cath in both interceptions and passes defended. At running back having split time with Brent Buckley does not get numbers/stats to be selected for all star awards. Just wins! Nathan moved from starting center in '05 to guard in '06. IMO has been one of the key factors in the Cov Cath's O-line success this year. The skill guys get most of the pub as they always do. For CCH to have two running backs rush for close to 2,000 yards in a pass first offense is probably one of those stats that will go unnoticed unless your a Colonels fan. Nate was the one that will stick out most to me, leading the way pulling and getting his block for Brent and Brandon. Please don’t miss read this that I feel that these guys deserved selection over Nic and Joe. Sometimes awards such as these miss deserving young men when you have a ball club that is as loaded as CCH is this year. I just see both Brandon and Nathan being major factors on Friday as they have been all year long.
  13. 81 - For what it's worth, As you know my son had a guest join us last Saturday for the Highlands / Cov Cath game who came up from EKU. Who was from Lex Cath and was on last years State Championship team and those were HIS exact feelings as well regarding last years CCH / Lex Cath game. BTW - If I call you 81 does that make me Maxwell Smart?
