  1. The 1982 Finals between Laurel Co. and North Hardin. Game was tied late in the 4th qtr and Laurel Co was holding the ball for the last shot and turned it over with just a few seconds left. North Hardin tried a length of the court pass to 6'10 Brett Burrow. Paul Andrews leaped in front of Burrow to grab the ball then took 2 or 3 dribbles and launched a shot from the North Hardin side of halfcourt. Nothing but net as the buzzer went off and Laurel Co won the championship.
  2. This region is wide open. The favorites right now would be Clay Co vs Harlan Co. But Barbourville beating Clay Co and South Laurel beating Harlan Co is very much possible this year. Its really a tossup. Who gets hot for three games.
  3. When was last time Knox played in region championship game? Won region?
  4. Knox Central has the potential it seems every year to be a top team in the 13th......Barbourville and Pineville are both quality A schools but they are probably in the 7-10 range in the top ten 13th region teams and Pineville along with North Laurel have been the biggest disappointments this season. And I know North is alive and could very well straighten out this season really quick now. Barbourville did beat Harlan Co but they also lost to Rockcastle Co. and Harlan City. Pineville has been a huge disappointment this season after entering the season as one of the favorites for the 13th. Pineville did beat the teams that they were supposed to but they never could get that big win, except for that North win if you can call that big at the time. To be one of the pre-season favorites, Pineville just didnt live up to the hype. Knox Central is playing very well right now but its a huge advantage playing district teams that you know you're better than. Seems as though with Knox playing lower competition in the district in recent years, its led to false hope and failure in the region tourny.
  5. Knox Central is playing pretty good ball right now, but lets be realistic here......their district consists of Barbourville, Pineville and Lynn Camp, all three of those are small single A schools.
  6. Corbin actually led 30-11 late in the 2nd qtr. and was up 34-17 at halftime. South Laurel regrouped at halftime and closed to 47-46 at the end of the 3rd qtr. Game stayed close throughout the 4th qtr. Goins from Corbin nailed three late 3 pointers to hold off South down the stretch. South's Blake Sanders was nearly unstoppable in the second half and finished with 25. Sophomore guard Zac Baxter finished with 21. Both of these teams are very capable of putting together 3 great games next week in the 13th region at Harlan Co.
  7. Good breakdown Les, but after seeing all the scores from the districts tonight.....this region is truely wide open.
  8. I know watching them last night that they are some big younguns on that team.....On most nights South Laurel starts 5 freshmen so they might seem to be smaller for that reason. Freshman Daniel Neal has hit 10 HR's this year, he's about 6'3 but not really filled out yet.
  9. Somerset is playing very good at the right time. How many seniors does Somerset have?
  10. The Wonderlic means very little as to succes in the NFL......Dan Marino scored a 13 while Ryan Leaf scored a 27. JaMarcus Russell scored a 24 while both Peyton Manning and Drew Brees both got a 28.
  11. Knox Central will have Matthew Barger, who is the brother of last years starter John Barger. Matthew Barger will be a sophomore but has all the tools to be a great QB.
  12. Tyler Dethridge from South Laurel threw for 2400 yards and 30 TD's last season as a junior. With most of his O-line back along with a fine group of receivers, look for even better numbers this season.
  13. Yes it is and they may not make it to the finals, but this team is loaded with good young talent. I'm not from Williamsburg but did get to see them play and saw how many underclassmen they had. As I said wouldnt suprise me at all. Helps to avoid Mayfield and Beechwood until the finals also.
  14. I do know that this Williamsburg team was very young but good last year. Qb is Dalton Sizemore who will be a Jr. and they have a big time future star in Skylar Griffith at receiver, who will be a Soph. It may not be this season but wouldn't suprise me to see this team in State finals in 2013.
