A slow-moving cold front will interact with very moist conditions is expected to result in scattered showers and thunderstorms across for portions of the Ohio Valley. Vertical wind shear, changing of wind direction with height will be very weak. This will limit storm organization and how long the storms will last. With that being said a few water loaded downbursts capable of damaging wind gust are possible. The Storm Prediction Center has...

There is a category 1 Marginal Threat that exists for late Sunday afternoon into the evening hours. Conditions could be favorable for marginally severe wind gusts with stronger storms or multi cells. Parts of the cat. 1 Marginal Risk area may have the potential for a more substantial wind damage threat, especially if a cold pool aloft can develop. A cold pool means there is a region of relatively low instability. However, the exact...

While other parts of Kentucky could see some storms it is mainly west of I-65 that could see widely scattered strong to severe storms later today. The Storm Prediction Center has that part of Kentucky in a category 1 Marginal Risk Area. For now it appears that this will be mainly a damaging wind threat in the stronger storms. The timing for these possible storms looks to be mid-afternoon into the early evening hours. This is what the HRRR...

A cold front will accompany a weakening upper trough through the Great Lakes and OH Valley during the day, providing a focus for thunderstorm initiation. The environment will become supportive of a few locally strong to damaging wind gusts, and storms may eventually evolve into line segments or clusters before weakening. The Storm Prediction Center has a large portion of Kentucky in a category 1 Marginal Risk Area. The is a section of...

Strong thunderstorms posing a risk for potentially damaging wind gust area possible. The prefrontal environment likely will see seasonally high moisture including surface dew points in the upper 60s to lower 70s F. This destabilization will be sufficient to support the initiation of thunderstorm development. I will update later today.

Portions of Kentucky, southern Indiana, and southern Ohio are covered. This area is north of a line from Prestonsburg to Berea Campbellsville back to Cave City to Madisonville. Multiple weak low-pressure centers across the midwest and Ohio Valley, zones of differential heating, and abundant low-level moisture will factor into corridors of increasing storm coverage/intensity this afternoon as the boundary layer warms. A combination of...

Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, mainly over southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. The activity may spread into southwest Indiana and west Kentucky by early evening. A severe weather watch could be issued by 2 pm EDT for portions of Kentucky and Ohio from around the I-75 corridor eastward. I'm watching closely but the BGP Tornado Index may have to be raised especially east of I-75. The RAP and HRRR weather models are showing an increase in the chance for a tornado. Once again let me reiterate this doesn't necessarily mean a tornado will form just the chance of one forming is increasing.
