Those in the Cincinnati/NKY area are in a Category 1 Marginal Risk Area for strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon. These look to be scattered in nature and mainly damaging wind threat. There is a possibility for some large hail in the most intense cells. The timing looks to be later afternoon into the early evening hours.

Beryl is no longer a tropical system but it is forecast to regenerate later in the week. For now, there appears Beryl poses no danger to the U.S. mainland. Those who may be planning a vacation in the Bahamas or have interest in that area should keep an eye on this system.

Hot and humid conditions look to return for parts of Kentucky by Wednesday. This is mainly for those west of the I-65 corridor. Those west of I-65 could see heat index from the mid-90s to around 100 degrees on Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon the heat really gets cranked up for the same area I mentioned above. The heat index will rise to around the high 90s to around 106 in far western Kentucky. There looks to be a break from the...

There is now another system closer to the U.S. that is now forecast to possibly become a tropical depression over the next couple of days. Showers and thunderstorms are increasing in association with a well-defined low-pressure system locate a few hundred miles southeast of the North Carolina coast. Conditions look to be favorable for additional development in a couple of days or so while the system moves slowly northwestward and stalls or...

I just got back home from Lexington and took a quick look at the latest forecast for Beryl. It is forecast to become a hurricane by Friday or Saturday. Then maybe degenerate after passing the Lesser Antilles. So we'll have to wait and see if it does indeed degenerate from hurricane strength. It actually caught the National Hurricane Center by surprise because it gained strength so quickly. So everything is up in the air for now. I'll be...

I've been watching a system cross the Atlantic. I'm not saying it will reach the continental U.S. but I've noticed the chances of this system forming into a tropical system grow exponentially the past couple of days so I thought I would post this. We are a couple of weeks away so no danger to any appreciable landmass yet. From the National Hurricane Center: Satellite images indicate that the shower activity associated with a small area of...

From the NWS-Louisville office. One of the biggest weather related risks during the summer months is the possibility of a child dying in a vehicle from heat stroke. The temperature inside a vehicle can rise 20 degrees in as little as 10 minutes, and 50 degrees in an hour- even when outside air temperatures are in the 70's! The inside of a car acts like a greenhouse, where actual temperatures inside the vehicle can reach 120F in minutes and...

The heat index will range from 104-111 across most of the state Thursday afternoon with the highest heat indexes in Western Kentucky. Relief is on the way. Scattered Showers and thunderstorms will move in late Thursday night or early Friday morning. More widespread showers and possible thunderstorms will occur Friday afternoon.
