As I stated last night I was seeing the track of this system moving southward. This morning modeling data is confirming what I was seeing. It now appears that parts of Kentucky could receive some accumulating snows. First, let's look at the maps. The NAM is showing the low-pressure system tracking a little more to the south than the GFS. It also is showing a wider stretch of Kentucky getting some significant snow accumulations. The GFS...

Just a quick update. I've been noticing a little jogging to the south concerning the track of this storm. All the weather models are starting to show it but there is way too much of a difference in the data to make any snow accumulation forecast. My plans are to make my first call in the morning dependant on the models coming closer in agreement.

You must be talking about one of the NAM model runs. The 12Z(7 AM) run is showing that for Cincinnati/NKY area but I wouldn't put too much stock in that as of yet. All the model have been going back and forth. The NAM 06Z(1 AM) morning run showed no snow for that same area. The GFS was just the opposite it went from showing 2" in the O6Z run to a dusting in the 12Z run. So we will be in kind of a holding pattern for a little while longer.

Looks like we've got a wild ride ahead of us weather wise this weekend. From heavy rain and possible thunderstorms Saturday to freezing rain/snow by the time every thing is over on Sunday. It's making a forecast difficult.

It won't amount to much. Maybe a dusting to around 1/2 inch.

Just a quick update. The GFS is still showing mainly a rain event for Saturday but switching to freezing rain and snow during the nighttime hours into Sunday. The Canadian is also showing rain during the day on Saturday but is showing a much quicker switch from rain to snow. It is not showing much in freezing rain accumulations but is still showing Kentucky getting some heavy snow accumulations. We'll still have to wait a day or two before we...

And the coldest temperatures look to be in the Cincinnati/NKY area. Too early to tell. The models are all over the place right now. The GFS is showing little snow while the Canadian model is showing Kentucky receiving a big hit. Saturday looks to be mostly rain and switch over to snow Saturday into the day on Sunday.

Everything will hinge on how fast the cold air moves in. Parts of Kentucky could see as much as a 40-degree drop in temperatures from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Temps could range from 10 to low teens by Monday morning. Wind chills could be as much as 10 degrees below zero Monday morning.

Here's the update for this coming weekend. Timing is going to be everything for any accumulation of snow. We are still a little less than a week away so there will be some fluctuations in the data until we get closer. First for the precipitation. It looks to start as rain late Friday night or early Saturday morning. The rain could be heavy at times. As the cold air tries to move in during Saturday the rain should turn over to all snow by...

Looks like our next chance for accumulating snow will be during the period of Saturday 1/19 through Sunday evening 1/20. Here is the GFS simulated radar. This is the simulated temperature map. That's correct it is showing temperatures in the single digits and teens by Sunday evening.

Here is what the CFS or Climate Forecast System model is showing for the end of January and first weekend of February temperature wise. All I can say is if it holds true WOW! Those temps are double digits below zero. I hope these temperatures moderate before then. The first one is from Wednesday night January 30th to Friday night February 1. The second one is from Saturday morning to Monday evening.

There appear to be two more shots at some snow this month. The next one will be the weekend of the 19th and 20th. It looks to start off as rain then switch over to snow before it ends. The next show looks to be the 24th through the 26th. This one looks to be all snow. So it looks like we are finally entering into winter.

I used to think like that. Sometimes waiting will get you into a difficult situation. That's what happened to me in 2009 when the ice storm hit Richmond. My wife had surgery that day and I didn't pay attention to the weather. We lost power 30 minutes after we got home. It was out for six days. I had to scramble and try to find some kind of heat source and I wasn't able to get something. So I had to get a hotel room then we came home and for a ...

This may not mean much but today is the first day we have turned our heat system on this winter. I had extra insulation installed in our attic and over our garage. We put rolls in then a company came in and blew more insulation on top of that. So winter is coming!!! :thumb:

Look for anywhere between 4-7" through central Ohio. There's a real sharp cutoff on the northern edge of this system. Cleveland maybe a dusting to 1" unless it moves to the north.
