  1. I know it's a few weeks late but I just wanted to say congrats to the individuals from the Hammer & Anvil that qualified for this season's state tournament. We ended up having 55 state qualifiers and 32 state placers from the 15 teams in the field. Congrats to all! Congratulations again to Woodford County on their 13th KHSAA State Championship as well! Great program and we look forward to having them back up again next year. Also, I am currently working on the field for next year's event and it looks to be again improved over this year's field. New teams will be announced once field is complete. 2006 Hammer & Anvil State Qualifiers 103 Bryan Smith, DII, 5th, Eastwood 112 Adam Tinnel, DII, 2nd, Eastwood 119 Jan Ulinski, DII, 7th, Eastwood 125 Ben Llanas, DII, 6th, Eastwood 130 Kyle Taylor, DII, Eastwood 135 Ryan Cubberly, DII, 3rd, Eastwood 145 Eric Cubberly, DII, 3rd, Eastwood 152 Kurt Shroyer, DII, 6th, Eastwood 171 Jeremy Foster, DII, Eastwood 215 Ryan Nachtrab, DII, 5th, Eastwood 275 Colton Schulte, DII, Eastwood 103 Jacob Garringer, DII, 6th, Miami Trace 215 Sam Moore, DII, 7th, Miami Trace 125 Dustin Fraley, DII, Miami Trace 130 Matt Cunningham, DII, Miami Trace 135 Stephan Morrison, DII, 8th, Miami Trace 140 Josey Neff, DII, Miami Trace 152 Ben Foor, DII, Miami Trace 103 Shane Parks, KY, 3rd, Woodford County KY 112 Coty Lewis, KY, 1st, Woodford County KY 119 John Smith, KY, Woodford County KY 130 Steven Butler, KY, Woodford County KY 135 Chad Scott, KY, Woodford County KY 140 Blake Sheehan, KY, Woodford County KY 145 Harrison Courtney, KY, 1st, Woodford County KY 152 Justin Mayes, KY, Woodford County KY 160 Chad Fyffe, KY, 4th, Woodford County KY 171 Will Starks, KY, 1st, Woodford County KY 189 Richard Starks, KY, 1st, Woodford County KY 215 Matt Byrd, KY, 5th, Woodford County KY 275 Kyle Goodrich, KY, 1st, Woodford County KY 119 Mike Maguire, DI, 7th, Clarkston MI 135 Mitch Miller, DI, Clarkston MI 140 Colton Tweed, DI, Clarkston MI 152 Bryant Craft, DI, Clarkston MI 160 Adam Lauzen, DI, Clarkston MI 160 Tommy Ellsworth, DI, 6th, Clarkston MI 171 Josh McAllister, DI, 3rd, Clarkston MI 275 Steve Herron, DI, 4th, Clarkston MI 130 Chris Wolf, DI, Northmont 103 Nick Ziegler, DIII, Mechanicsburg 130 Cody Toney, DIII, 3rd, Mechanicsburg 160 Zach Ziegler, DIII, Mechanicsburg 171 Blaine Klaus, DIII, 6th, Mechanicsburg 275 Travis Salyers, DIII, 5th, Mechanicsburg 130 Ben Fondale, DII, 4th, New Lexington 145 Walt Dolinski, DIII, 6th, Brookville 152 Jeff Johns, DIII, 4th, Brookville 140 Jake Fose, DIII, 5th, Middletown Madison 171 Josh Herbert, DIII, Middletown Madison 160 Greg Rhoads, DII, 5th, Hillsboro 215 Oney Snyder, DII, Hillsboro 103 Andrew Clark, DIII, 5th, Reading 119 Michael Jameson, DII, Indian Hill 125 Dusty Osterloh, DII, Greenfield McClain

  3. Absolutely. Woodford County did quite well finishing in the top 3 for the second consecutive year. They finished 3rd behind Eastwood and Miami Trace. Results are at http://www.baumspage.com under Western Brown Invitational on the left hand side of the tournament listings. Sorry I've been negligent in getting the results out. Currently enrolled for 18 cr. hrs. at Northern Kentucky University.
  4. Tourney is next weekend, 1/21/06. I look forward to seeing a strong KY contingent up here. Feel free to come up and introduce yourself. I'm a pretty personable guy! lol
  5. What I've really been looking for are Woodford County and Ryle line-ups. I have been putting together a preview for the tourney and lacked that information. Any help? I've found Ryle's on baumspage but didn't know if anything had changed, etc. Thanks
  6. This may be true but KY wrestling is turning the corner. I know this to be true because: 1. Your best teams are routinely travelling outside of the state for in-season tourneys. In fact, we host both Ryle and Woodford County this year in our Hammer & Anvil. 2. New programs are starting to pop up (i.e. Newport). 3. You all are finally getting on board with some of the post-season/summer organizing bodies (AAU primarily). As soon as you start putting together a team for Fargo, that would be a huge step in the right direction. Think FS/GR! 4. Your community is communicating better than they have in the past. Forums like this one (BGP's) are popping up and you're becoming one community. Many of the problems you face can be solved through communicating with the entire state. Keep up the good work KY!
  7. In Ohio we have about 3 or 4 key places for information on tourneys, duals, etc. (baums page, ohio wrestler, yappi's, the huddle, etc.) and I was wondering if KY has a comprehensive data base or central location where coaches, fans, officials, or wrestlers post results as the season goes along? I frequently check this site but I've found that the KY folk don't post nearly as much as the OH folk do. Why is this? Thanks, Shep
  8. Another one I missed. MICHIGAN 135 Bryan Webb, Clarkston, 0-2/119 2003 Ironically, both of these gentlemen were Hammer & Anvil Champions last season. I erroneously thought they had graduated.
  9. Does anyone out there have the current weight classes for the listed KY guys? I have most of the Ohio weights but can't find info on your guys from across the river for this season. If you know any of em', please feel free to post. Thanks.
  10. One I missed. OHIO 145 Jeff Johns, Brookville, 1-2/145 2005

  12. Here's the preview I will be putting on our website for this year's tourney. Our team's website can be found at http://www.broncoswrestling.com . Please feel free to comment in this thread. I'm only posting to get conversation started in anticipation of a great tourney this year. -Shep 2006 Hammer & Anvil 1/21/06 2006 Hammer & Anvil Information We are very excited about the 2006 Hammer & Anvil Invitational. The tournament will be held at Western Brown High School in Mt. Orab, Ohio seated in rural, southwestern Ohio. The event will take place on January 21st, 2006. Many improvements will be made to an already wonderful tournament for this year's installment. We have done our best to make this the best one day tournament in southwest Ohio. We have added some tremendous teams to our field. Four of the returning teams have a 2005 sectional championship under their belts. We will be seeing a wide variety of competition with teams from Michigan, Kentucky and all over the state of Ohio. This tournament will give every team one last challenge before the post-season tournaments. Schools Entered: Western Brown (DI, SW DISTRICT Brookville (DII, SW DISTRICT) Clarkston (MICHIGAN) Eastwood (DII, NW DISTRICT) Miami Trace (DII, SW DISTRICT)*NEW* Hillsboro (DII, SE DISTRICT) Indian Hill (DII, SW DISTRICT) Northmont (DI, SW DISTRICT)*NEW* Mechanicsburg (DIII, SW DISTRICT)*NEW* New Lexington (DII, SE DISTRICT) Reading (DIII, SW DISTRICT) Ryle (KENTUCKY) Madison (DIII, SW DISTRICT)*NEW* Woodford County (KENTUCKY) Greenfield McClain (DII, SW DISTRICT) Williamsburg (DIII, SW DISTRICT) For 2006 we have added many outstanding teams to the field. Miami Trace leads an impressive list of new additions to the 2006 Hammer & Anvil. Miami Trace is expected to again be near the top of the DII SW District leader board. They return 7 district qualifiers, 3 state qualifiers, and a state-runner-up to this veteran team. Middletown Madison also enters the tournament for the first time this season. What they lack in numbers they more than make up for with talented kids. "They step off the bus with 8 kids" and 8 kids usually win matches for this small team. Perennial Dayton Division I power, Clayton Northmont, takes the tournament to a new level. Last season they sent 10 wrestlers to the SW DI tournament and they return 7 of those grapplers this season. The final team added is the young Mechanicsburg team. Mechanicsburg, while young, returns 3 state qualifiers and 1 state placer from last year’s team. They are a team whose stock is rising by the week. Eastwood High School out of northwest Ohio heads the list of returning teams. Eastwood proved to be the head of the field last year when they compiled an impressive 420.5 points, a tournament scoring record. They were the OHSAA Division II State Runners-up last season and boast 12 returning district qualifiers, 8 returning state qualifiers and 7 returning state placers and 1 state champion. They are the hottest young team in Ohio wrestling right now and we are pleased to have them in the tournament. Coach Cubberly’s Eagles will be the first team in quite some time to seriously challenge St. Paris Graham for the Division II state title. 6X KY State Champions, Woodford County will again be in the field. Woodford County returns 9 state qualifiers, 6 state placers and 2 state champions. In 2006, they are the team to beat from across the river! Coach Carr’s Yellow Jackets are the front-runners for their 7th state title this season. We are very excited to be hosting teams from New Lexington, Reading, Clarkston MI, Ryle KY, Brookville, Hillsboro, Greenfield McClain, Williamsburg and Indian Hill as well. The field now has representatives from all over Ohio, Michigan, northern Kentucky and Lexington, Kentucky. The Hammer & Anvil teams finished the 04-05' season very strongly last year. The teams in this year's field yielded 124 district qualifiers, 62 state qualifiers (25 in KY, 4 in MI, 33 in OH), 29 state placers (13 in KY, 1 in MI, 15 in OH) and 5 State Champions (4 in KY, 1 in OH)! We hope to go one step further with that in the upcoming season! Returning for this season the teams involved have 82 district qualifiers, 43 state qualifiers, 21 state placers and 4 state champions. This is a tremendous field that we are extremely pleased with. We are definitely headed in the right direction. This is by far the most talent laden field we have had yet! For this installment of the Hammer & Anvil we have made some minor changes to the format of the tournament as well. We will be running all 5 mats in the main gym during the preliminary pool rounds. This way you will be able to see all of the great pool action in one location. Our goal is to provide extremely high quality wrestling in a reasonable time frame so all teams that are traveling to our facility can return home in a timely manner. We will again be going with a criteria based seeding this year to avoid the dreaded seed meeting and further help with the efficiency of the tournament. With many of our teams coming from different geographic locations, a seed meeting has proved cumbersome in previous years. Finally, rumor has it that the state's best hospitality room will be up for improvements as well! Even more great home cooking in the country! If coaches, fans, wrestlers, administrators or anyone else involved in the sport of wrestling has any other ideas for improvement, please email them to tournament director Chris Shepherd at coachshepherd@hotmail.com for consideration. All ideas will be considered. We strive to make this the best tournament possible but we need all of your help to do so. If your team, fans or families are looking at spending the night in the Mt. Orab metropolitan area, there are a few hotels in the area we’d recommend. They include: AmeriHost Inn & Suites- Batavia, Ohio 2188 Winemiller Lane Batavia, Ohio 45103 phone: (513)735-4678 reservations: 1-800-434-5800 http://www.amerihostinn.com Best Inn – Mt. 13. Is the small school state title an actual award given or is it just "understood"? I mean, does the KHSAA recognize the small school champion, even though all teams wrestle in the same state tourney? If so, who was the small school champ this past season?
