  1. Even though I disagree with the protesters, I value their right to protest. I do feel that their protesting is misguided; otherwise, they would be protesting against Saddam. As far as the French go, the last time they needed more proof, the Germans were marching through Paris!
  2. I also love my Sig P220. In the 9 mm I shoot an HK P7 M8, it also is an excellent handgun.
  3. I do my modern gun deer hunting with a 44 mag.
  4. I simply do not understand how you cannot see that this puts the public schools at a great disadvantage, along with the fact that you are able to recruit students to your schools by offering them money. Again, I say if you stop offering scholarships, I will stop pushing for there to be separate divisions for the public and private schools. It all boils down to what is more important to your institutions. Is more important to offer scholarships or not? If you chose scholarships, then in my opinion, you should have your own classification. To those who bring up the arguement about the public schools being free, you are so off base with that argument, it is not even worth a comment. You can't complain if you pay taxes and choose to send your child to a private school. Those of you for Trinity who say that you do not complain about the size of St. X, how could you? You are doing the same thing when it comes to offering scholarships and recruiting. It just seems that they are a little better at it than you.
  5. Brudawg there is no way of getting around one school having an advantage over another. The debate is over the unfair advantages.
  6. Brudawg, some people just can not tell the difference. :thumb:
  7. LSURock, successful means achieving or having success. It means having attained wealth, position, honors, or the like. Those of you who say that it is still 11 on 11, why are the schools divided into classes? I will answer that question for you. It is called numbers. For those of you who say that there is no difference between the Jefferson County Schools and Trinity and St. X because of open enrollment.....you're wrong. How many students go to Jefferson County Schools from outside the county? The county schools throughout the state are at even a bigger disadvantage than the Jefferson County Schools. Does T and X accept kids out of state or outside of Jefferson County? How about that as an advantage? Trinity alum, there is a great advantage that you have that the public schools do not have, and that would be the offering of scholarships to the students. What public school is allowed to do that? In my opinion, that alone is enough to separate the private schools from the public schools.
  8. Bert, I have the utmost respect for the private school system and if I had a child, I would have enrolled them in the Catholic school system even if I had to take on a second job. But it would not be for the reasons we have addressed here. Do I think their school system has better teachers or coaches? Heck, no. But there are definite advantages. I cannot see how you can reach the socially and economically disadvantaged student if your numbers are correct. Do not take me wrong here. I know that you have to support your system in order to keep it running. And that takes al ot of money to keep up the standards you have set for yourselves. Bert, I simply feel that the private schools, no matter the size, have a distinct advantage if they are able to offer scholarships to their students in order to reach more kids. If they were to drop the scholarships, would there be any less money coming in to the system? I do not think so. I would venture to say that there would be a significant drop in their enrollment if they were to stop offering scholarships. And with that drop, would their sports programs be as strong? I would venture to say not. The sports programs mean a lot to a school system because it is a drawing card for them. Yes, we are going to say that academics come first, and they should. But let us not fool ourselves by saying sports are secondary. If it were so, we would not be having this debate. If sports were secondary, would you be drawing 30,000+ fans to the St. X/Trinity football game each year?
  9. Bert then are you telling me that any disadvantaged student regardless of income can go to school at T or X. Just asking questions. I am not trying to corner you. I simply do not know.
  10. I understand it is not an athletic scholarship. Bert do you think they would be willing to stop offering scholarships? If so I think this debate would come to an end. I feel that the fact that a student can have 50% of their tuition paid just aids to the problem.
  11. Does Trinty and St. X offer scholarships to some of their athlete's?
  12. Bert, it keeps coming up because they do have a distinct advantage. If it were not so, do you think it would keep coming up?
  13. I would love to take you up on that, if we could work it out.
