  1. Wrong sir. If the officials and/or coaches are calling the games (even those non sanctioned passing league games) by the rules, then all padding requirements should be enforced as well. If the helmet is worn, then all helmet rules should apply.
  2. No longer true. Beginning this season, NCAA rule same as NFHS. 100% colorless clear or not legal.
  3. If in the opinion of the umpire, the second baseman was not even able to make an attempt, he is perfectly correct (the umpire) and within his judgement to declare interference. It was a judgement call that could be debated ad nauseum (it actually already has been), and the rule is not likely to change given how long it has been on the books. And I have read enough to know that as currently written, the call was correct. That's what the umpire is required to do, enforce the rules as written, not what he/she or the fans or coaches may want them to say. The KHSAA is very involved at the NFHS level in rules writing, if you have better wording, you should probably send it to them. But be prepared that you don't open up problems with your proposal. In many cases, I have seen the KHSAA and NFHS change rules to fix one problem, only to compound or create more of them.
  4. You guessed incorrectly. Saw it up pretty clearly, have seen it several times since then on tape. He went past the base, no matter how slightly, made contact with the fielder outside the baseline, and the official IMO, correctly ruled interference. It may be "good, solid baseball" as you say, but it was illegal and was correctly enforced...bottom line.
  5. It doesn't matter what type of slide. It's the contact that the umpire has to judge as interference or not. The runner was outside the base path (for whatever reason) and made contact with the fielder. In his judgement (and correctly so), the umpire said that the contact at that point prevented the fielder from making a play on the batter-runner, and declared him out.
  6. One other thing to consider mustang, to you very wise post. Doubtful that any of those other events have the kind of crowds that attend Rupp. That size audience limits where you can play. With only two options in the state, and both costing about the same (about $200,000 for the week), there are some costs that just have to be passed on to fans and those who attend. But you are right, the beauty of the system is that you do one or the other or all, depending on what you choose.
  7. After a lot of years of listening to crowds, this year attributed at a district may have been the best ever told or re-told. North Oldham had recently had its coach suspended for ALLEGED interaction with a minor female student at the school. When North Oldham came out to warm up, Oldham's fans began to chant "where's your coach", "where's your coach", "where's your coach". At first, the North Oldham students had no response. Then when the cheer started again, the North Oldham kids began chanting "with your daughters", "with your daughters"..... Talk about cutting to the quick........
  8. As I read the news accounts, the KHSAA office hasn't proposed anything like you are complaining about. The member schools ARE the KHSAA, and that entity answers to the Kentucky Board of Education. The "collective butt" to which you refer is the 282 schools being willing to sign their name to complaints, hold fellow members accountable, and quit participating in the "fellowship of the miserable" approach by not wanting to "turn someone in". The KHSAA was founded as a regulatory agency to manage championships, not an enforcement agency. However, from what I read, that appears to be shifting to a broader based organization with expanded enforcement staff, and an emphasis on compliance. That is what both the public and private schools seem to be demanding. But it will not work if the member schools themselves refuse to hold each other accountable for adherence.
  9. go to http://www.khsaa.org and click on the state tournament info link
  10. I found this site for KHSAA. Take a look. http://www.khsaa.org/basketball/boys/ is the site that has links for the radio broadcast, stats links and other information.
  11. They will be public for the first time wednesday. According to one of the coaches, the list is in the State Tournament program.
  12. Friday afternoon. The luncheon is Friday morning (where the coaches and players of the year are being honored) and then they will be announced at the tournament games on Friday afternoon.
  13. She wins two more matches to be in the top 16. Wrestles again 9 a.m. Saturday!
  14. Thankfully, Ryan isn't always right. Priscilla wins her second round match pinning Jerod Smith of Fort Campbell.
