Saw Collective Soul back in '93 or '94 at Bogarts in Cincinnati when they were touring on the strength of their debut single "Shine" off of their first release. The show was fine, but when they played "Shine", (as the encore I believe) it truly was one of the most memorable excellently delivered tunes that I had ever heard live. It seriously out(shined) every tune that they had played in the set, and you could tell by the looks on everyone faces...

This is the first one that came to mind... It's pretty clever.

Honing his skills in the Cincinnati band "Elmwood" in the early part of this decade, Ruston Kelly has transplanted to Nashville, recently got engaged to award winning country singer/songwriter Kacey Musgraves, and has high expectations to reach a broader audience with his fantastic Alt/Country sound. Here's his new video for the song "Black Magic" from his debut EP "Halloween"

Beat Shazam hosted by Jamie Foxx - airs on Fox on Thursday nights @ 8:00 and premiered on May 25th. Just caught this game show tonight for the first time (4th episode), and being the music junkie that I am it held my interest throughout. It's a good guess that just about anyone who digs popular music will dig this program. Seems that lately there's been a slew of new prime time game shows popping up, and for the most part I'm too turned...

In '86 in TG I didn't dislike him just yet, but yeah... Sounds like he wants a piece of the action with the upcoming sequel as "Ghost Goose".

In 1995 I got Dave Grohl's autograph on the back of my rehearsal ticket while waiting in line for SNL's Saturday afternoon rehearsal when the Foo Fighters were the musical guest, however I never got in to see them in rehearsal because ER star and host that evening, Anthony Edwards made a last minute request that the rehearsal would be closed off to the general public. As you might have guessed, though I never gave a crap about him in the first...

I was cool with Nick, but I'm also cool with Tyra and her likable personality. As things stand now I think that her arrival adds a touch of freshness to keep the show from getting stale. Though it gave us a chance to get to know Howard a little better, I really don't miss him or his odd edgy character. I dig the show, and though I've generally been alright with all of the present judges, I wouldn't mind a complete reset with 4 new ones...

In memory of a fallen Colonel - (Keith Stowers - January 18, 1971) On January 10, 1971, 3 year outstanding defensive end and tackle Keith Stowers (brother of Jeff & Phil) at age 17 was shot in the neck in Newport while trying to stop a fight between his friend and the gunman, Gregory Johnson, 17 from Newport, who was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, and sentenced to serve 21 years in prison. Keith Stowers died 8 days later in St....

I was watching the opening credits to the Wonder Woman TV show the other day where it showed one of the main actors being a man named "Lee Waggoner" who looked a whole lot like "Lyle Waggoner" who was on The Carol Burnett Show years ago. Sure enough it was him, and apparently he had gone by both names along the way in his career. Reading up on him I also discovered that he was a finalist in the running for the title role of Batman before...

A couple of weeks ago I turned on the TV to catch the tail end of the show "This Is Us" and this interesting tune caught my attention, so I made sure to remember a bit of the lyrics to have some way to figure out what it was by checking online. The beginning of it musically reminded me of Fairport Convention's - "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" from 1969, but the melody was entirely different. What I found was a folk artist famous in...

Here's a song from 1967 that I love from a band named "Love" that I had never heard of until about 10 years ago when I got goose bumps hearing it live during an impromptu Tuesday afternoon in-studio performance at WNKU by the Arizona-based Americana, Tex-Mex, Indie rock band "Calexico" where only about 5 people showed up. Hearing the trumpet right in my face was magical. Afterwards the band followed me to Willie's Sports Bar in Covington...

I was 7 in 1971 and while my oldest and coolest sister was just beginning to listen to WEBN, I was at the time still very much into WSAI-AM and maybe Q102 (if it was already on the air), and didn't probably switch over to more album oriented rock stations like WEBN or WSAI-FM until I was about 13 or 14. When I read "Redbone", I instantly thought that you were speaking of Leon Redbone. I don't at all recall the Redbone tune or the band,...

Just like you I've been going back and forth thinking stuff like... "Just because I really like a song does it mean that I'm desperate to hear it live, or would it make me experience it any better"?... while other good tunes just become even more magical to experience when heard live. Tons of my favorite songs have been entering my mind, some of which I have already experienced live, and the memory is good enough to sustain me forever, while...

A little piece of trivia: "That Lucky Old Sun" was written by Covington, Ky native Haven Gillespie (1888-1975) who also wrote "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town". He was also a drunkard who hung out in the Irish Pub where my parents met at 6th & Main in Covington which is now home of the English Pub - C&B. My favorite version of the song is Aretha Franklin's 1962 cover. She really gets to the heart of the song.

I came across this "Stairway To Heaven" cover in a record shop back in the mid-80's by this British band called Far Corporation, and my curiosity got the best of me, so I bought it. Either I have a valuable rarity on my hands, or I don't. In their favor it did manage to reach #8 on the UK Singles Chart in '85 while going mostly unnoticed here stateside. It's the highest charting version of "S to H" since LZ never officially ever released it...

This is a real trip... I thought that Tom Jones was stretching it a bit when he did Prince's "Kiss" (Though I have to admit that I liked it), but he's killin' it here, and it's no joke. He actually stayed current and cool without looking like a fool, or a has been somewhere in Branson, MO like I would have years ago guessed. Never knew that he covered this... Wow!
