I agree. That doesn't make it any less wrong, and I assume that you're not advocating that schools and associates should be allowed to openly recruit. Is the argument that why deem anyone ineligible because it's so hard to prove?

That's why it's a hard thing to nail down. But I'll also put it to you like this - you'd know your intent was to recruit.

I don't think Warren Central is top 5 if they're both eligible. Maybe region favorites though. If Potter were still around - and he will not turn 19 until late into next basketball season so it wouldn't be out of the norm for him to actually be a senior this year - then that'd be different. Micale Mee was in the exact same boat age-wise. With just Boyd they're probably #2 in the region, contenders, but I think Bowling Green remains the...

As much as I like smartphones - and unfortunately now am so committed that I don't think I could go back - I really just miss my RAZR. I could have used that phone for years upon years and been happy.

I've posted on it, you and PP92 clearly do not agree. There's not really anything more I can say on the subject. At this point you either see it as that simple, or you don't. I want you to understand that I get where you're coming from, but I do not view the subject as night/day as you see it. And that's fine.

Yes, most things would tie back to money in some way. Hire a parent as a coach, get them a job within the district, hook them up with an apartment to move into, give them some free stuff, etc. I was simply saying that I don't think fining a school for the amount of transfers they receive makes sense as a solution. But that people tend to also have a problem with the concept of a school recruiting. So if a kid "should be able to attend...

Semantics. I don't expect a school to police each and every person who's ever been associated with a school but if they are actively involved, be it booster members, coaches, teachers, etc., and they're recruiting, that's out of bounds. The one from Glasgow I have heard is not eligible. His mother got a job at Warren Elementary the week before school was to begin (which you'll know that school is walking distance from Central), and they had...

Do you believe a school should be able to incentivize a student to come to their school for the purpose of playing athletics? Keeping in mind that I’m not referring to this case, but the general statement that I made that most people agree that schools should not be recruiting.

We don't want schools recruiting. I believe that is a legitimate thing that most people agree on. If a kid just shows up, why would a school be expected to tell them no? I don't think this is the answer. Heck, maybe there isn't an answer.

I'm a fan of a school that nearly had its football program shuttered because after a coach's dismissal basically the entire senior class to be wanted to transfer. They literally had to forfeit half of a softball season one year because of lack of athletes to fill out the team, which was certainly impacted by transfers to other schools. Does that make clear my mindset on diminished opportunities? Hence my problem with a blanket policy. ...

Then semi-state should be pretty similar. The semi-state was the week before when they used to do it. A small school can use their ace, advance, use their ace again. I'd say for small schools it increases their chances of making the final four.

I was specifically asking those who said "punish the parent" what they were even proposing. "Let the kid play where he wants to play" obviously isn't a punishment at all. I get that the point you all are making is that you think there's nothing to punish, I was just trying to understand what others even meant by "punish the parent".

I just can't agree with a blanket policy like that. A decade ago, maybe I could have. I've said before that I honestly don't have an answer to this issue. I see both sides, and I agree, I'd hate for a kid to miss a year. But I also don't think it's fair to those left behind who see their opportunities diminished. It is an extremely complex issue. But to what I asked, I'm not even saying I'm advocating punishment here. Just that if the...

The top six teams in 4A seem to have completely solidified, with all six winning this week while the four teams at the bottom of the top 10 all lost by no less than 21 points. For better or for worse, it looks like we’ve got everything set in stone for a bit. #2 Franklin-Simpson and #3 Ashland put on the best shows this past week. Franklin-Simpson was seeking revenge for a home loss at the hands of Meade County a season ago, and had to...

The Cardinals are rested after their bye week, coming in at 3-1. They have pitched two shutouts on the year, including a 39-0 win on September 7th against LaRue County. West Jessamine rebounded from a surprising loss to Russell County with a 34-24 win over Nelson County last week. It's the first district game for both teams, and it was a great one last season, a 26-20 OT win for Taylor County. What happens this time?

Moore was knocked from the unbeaten ranks by top rated Johnson Central, but hung relatively tough on the long road trip, falling 49-21. They were mostly undone in a stretch of the second half that saw 21 straight by the Golden Eagles to break open a 21-7 Johnson Central game at the half. Still a positive showing for the Mustangs as they enter as sizable favorites into the district play. They start with 1-4 Valley, who fell to Fairdale by a...

The Flyers are licking their wounds after a 42-21 loss to 5A #7 Anderson County, a decision that dropped them to 2-2 overall. They'll open district play at the dangerous Shelby County Rockets, who are 3-2 and fresh off a road win at Bullitt East by a 7-3 score. The home team has won this game each year since Shelby County entered the district in 2015, a good sign for Shelby County. Can Franklin County maintain their favorite status in...

Wayne County moved to 3-2 with a 40-12 win over Harlan County last week. The Cardinals have losses to Frederick Douglass and Boyle County, two teams that are in the discussion for placement in the five best in the state of Kentucky regardless of class. So don't let the modest record fool you. No matchup with Clay County has been close since Wayne County entered the district in 2015, including a 49-20 decision last season. Clay County enters...

The beat goes on for the Cougars who are 5-0 for the second straight year after knocking off homestanding McLean County by a 40-20 score. They'll go back home for a tuneup in district play against Hopkins County Central, who enter at 3-2 after a district loss to Madisonville last week. The two have one common opponent already played. Logan County blew the doors off Muhlenberg County 56-18 while the Storm fell at home 14-6 to the Mustangs. ...

The Panthers remained unbeaten against in-state competition with a smooth 3 6-0 win on the road at Green County. A surging Russell County team awaits them in their district opener. The Lakers are 3-1, and starting to climb into the periphery of the 4A rankings. Last season the homestanding Lakers gave Knox Central all they wanted in a 34-27 Knox Central win. Will Knox be able to defend their home turf?

The Tomcats have navigated their way to their best start in three years, and are one of just two remaining unbeatens in 4A. They're coming off a 14-7 win over Ironton (OH) a week ago. Rowan County is their first game of district play, which will take up the rest of their season. Ashland trounced Rowan 46-14 a season ago, but the Vikings have had a turnaround season, and enter at 4-1. With a healthy 38.6 PPG average, can Rowan make a game of...

The Golden Eagle offense is rolling now, topping 43 points in each of their last two games, and knocking off previously unbeaten Moore 49-21 last week. This week they open district play on the road at Boyd County. Boyd suffered a 49-0 blowout loss at Russell last week, and enters at 2-2. Johnson Central rolled 58-0 a year ago, they haven't allowed a score by the Lions since 2015, and they've won ten straight matchups since Boyd County's last...
