Um, nooooooooooo. I mean, this would be nice, but that was hopefully not only going to be a title but immortality. When UK stopped the Tennessee streak it was nice, but not immortality. This would have been the same.

My two favorite teams lost today. FSU and the team playing Florida. What a truly awful day.

I've said it before and will again - I truly don't believe I'll ever lay eyes on a Kentucky victory over Florida in football. Year after year after year after year after year, Kentucky either finds a way to lose or Florida finds a way to win. Often both. Kentucky blew a 13 point lead in the 4th Quarter, at home. They gave up not one but TWO uncovered touchdowns. Kentucky gonna Kentucky when they play Florida.

Kentucky called timeout? Well then they gotta kick it. Aw jeez, now saw how far back they are. How can you call that timeout???

And that's why you just center the ball when you're in field goal range.

The problem is that Kentucky is mentally broken. They probably don't make midfield. Ha, well, throw that out - they're at midfield.

I mean, you know I hope they do it. But this is just typical of this series.

As a matter of fact, the absolute worst thing is going to happen to Kentucky here. They're going to slow Florida just enough for them to score when there's no time left.

Christian County has been screwing up in this game for the last couple of years, but this time, they’ll get it done to vault into the lead of that district.

Chubb. He was wrecking them all day long. It's not high on class but heck, he did far worse things to them during the day.

If he doesn't fire Trickett, and maybe Kelly as well, not long. I believe the fans are generally sick of the offensive line play. There have been years of excuses. After the title, it was about how many guys had graduated. But entering last year everyone was back on the line, and they were atrocious. Francois spent the entirety of 2016 running for his life. And then this year has begun exactly the same. There's no improvement. ...

They're usually solid, and they always cause problems for FSU. Often inexplicably. 2010 was the last time they were ranked in the top 25 at the end of the year. 2002 is the last time they were very good.

The lack of games didn't help Florida State either. They really could have used the game experience against UL Monroe for Blackman. That is what it is, nothing you can do about the weather situation and it was of course the right call to cancel that one and move the Miami game. Just unfortunate circumstances.

It's now an officially lost season for Florida State. Blackman was serviceable enough, but leads only one TD drive on the day. As usual, the offensive line completely failed the Noles, which is why they're without their QB in the first place. Trickett has been allowed to stay around for too long as offensive line coach - it's time. It's completely time. They recruit at too high a level - supposedly - to get destroyed on the offensive line...

Huge win for Apollo. Makes it extremely likely that they'll escape the 4 seed this year, and at least gives them a fighting shot for a home game if they could upset Owensboro as well. Apollo didn't make the playoffs last year and hasn't been anything other than the 4 seed since 2009. Which means they've been trapped in Bowling Green's immediate orbit for a long time. They should at least get out of that. Inverse is true of Graves. They...

Like I said, the numbers won't be exact, just trying to give an idea. South Warren would still have had to go through Christian County, a single opponent greater than any they faced in 2015. Owensboro would be a tossup to possibly still be in 3A, and Bowling Green has always had a knack for staying out of the top class. The point is if it was just that one game against Christian County, it would have been a better playoff than anything they...

The last four years of the six class system, three teams won titles in 1A, three teams won titles in 2A, four teams won titles in 3A, and only 4A was truly completely top heavy, with only two teams winning titles. While I'm certain Highlands felt like an unstoppable machine back then, the reality is that they won five titles in one incredibly dominant six year span, winning a title four years before that run and four years after it. Sure,...

There would be less bad teams in the playoffs, and consolidating the good teams into smaller groupings creates more of a grind for the favorites, creating more opportunities for upsets. How many champions have we had in the six class system that were literally untested because they were so far above everyone else? As in not even one close game. To use a local example, in 2015, South Warren won every game by 27 points or more in the playoffs. ...

The "everybody gets a trophy" statement is more a commentary on all the teams making the playoffs rather than more teams winning state titles. If we're talking literally trophies, there are 16 more district champions, 16 more district runner-ups, 8 more region champions, 8 more region runner-ups, and so forth. But it's the playoff argument that most people latch onto. The principal of a winless team making the playoffs is particularly galling...

Last week we talked about Wayne County taking it on the chin against Boyle County, leaving the door open for Collins to stake their claim to the #2 spot when they hosted Boyle County this week. The opportunity was ready-made for a comparison. The claim would be especially strong given the performance by 4A teams against out of class competition, particularly ranked competition. In all, through five weeks the top 10 teams in 4A are 1-9 when...

Beats me. Central beat Fern Creek 29-0, and we know Fern Creek is good based on how they've played the likes of Butler and DeSales. Manual has gone out and beaten Ballard in addition to their own close losses to Fern Creek and Central. There's a degree of circular logic with Louisville football, but the eye tests seem to indicate a lot of close games between some pretty strong programs. I honestly believe Western could win every game for...
