I just looked it up, last nights games moved some things around a bit, but the top two teams in the ratings were a fun mirror yesterday afternoon: Virginia: Defense 1 Offense 43 Villanova: Offense 1 Defense 43 Worth noting: this Virginia defense is a full two points better in the KenPom defensive efficiency ratings than Louisville’s historically great defense in 2013.

Only one team currently in the top ten in both offensive and defensive efficiency per the Ken Pom ratings. History says thatís a pretty good guide. So say hello to your statistical national champions: the Michigan State Spartans. Are the ones listed in the first post those that have both in at least the top 30?

This is the start of three straight East Asian Olympics. It’s brutal. But nobody in the West wants the games in their backyard and all the corrupt expenditures that go along with hosting. Hopefully they come up with a better plan soon.

I get suits custom tailored now but always liked what I got front Dillard’s in years past pretty well. Have never bought a single thing from Joseph A. Bank that was worth a darn but they were what I could afford my first couple years out of law school. I’m 6’4” and around 260. Custom tailoring changed my life. Look a hundred times better in wedding photos and at work. Have four custom suits and two sport coats from the same company now and I...

Absolutely agree on the two pairs of pants. I wear a suit at least three days a week and it has come up huge.

I like that they went ahead and did the shirt but the shorts are basically made of paper. :lol2: Definitely not the full getup they’ll be wearing on game days.

I donít see it. If Louisville goes 0-3 in these next three but beat Virginia and NC State in the last two, I donít see any way a 20-win ACC squad gets left out. Too early yet for guarantees.

The fan at large (especially the ones on Twitter) has very different interests from the average voter in that room. Big disconnect between the fans and the stakeholders in American soccer. If Twitter voted, the two biggest vote getters probably would’ve finished at the bottom of the poll. His biggest ideas — like Kathy Carter — have to do with better monetizing soccer in this country. Not exactly going to get the masses clamoring for you.

The Big Ten is the only league you’d recognize as a conference from other sports and it’s very new. Only a few years old as the Big Ten members were formerly in the WCHA and CCHA. Notre Dame used to be in the CCHA with the Michigan schools and Ohio State. BC has been and remains a member of Hockey East. The rest are bunched together in other regional organizations that exist only in hockey.

Carlos Cordeiro gets almost 69 percent on the third ballot and is elected. For Carter to go from 33 percent to 10 percent in one ballot suggests to me that the entire MLS contingent of the professional council switched en masse.

Second round: Cordeiro 41 percent Carter 33 percent Wynalda 10 percent Martino 10 percent Winograd is out so we’re down to six. No one can beat Carter and Cordeiro. I think Cordeiro whips up some other support and takes it in the third round.

First ballot complete: Cordeiro 36 percent Carter 34 percent Wynalda 14 percent My preferred guy, Winograd, gets less than 1 percent. Paul Caligiuri finishes with fewest votes, 0.5 percent, announces he will withdraw.

No I definitely agree. We’re headed for a lot of the same with either Carlos Cordeiro or Kathy Carter. I think Michael Winograd probably has the best and most workable ideas for fixing some of the systemic problems in US Soccer but he’s way down the list of likely winners. Lots of good ideas to make youth soccer more accessible and improving the pro game and amateur adult leagues as well.

Election is going to start at about 10 with the first ballot. Grant Wahl is reporting that the Athlete’s Council will vote in a bloc for Cordeiro. Gives him 20 percent right out of the gate. Nearly as much as Carter can expect from her MLS and NWSL support on the professional council. Big early lead for the two well-connected establishment candidates.

Paul Caligiuri is in the field. I don’t know what he’s been up to these last couple decades because I really know him as the man who made the Shot Heard Round the World and kicked off the modern era of US International Soccer.

Finally happens Saturday at 10:30 am. There are a whopping eight candidates in the field to replace Sunil Gulati, who announced last year he would not run for a third term. Among the entrants are Carlos Cordeiro, one of the current Vice Presidents of US Soccer; Kathy Carter, president of Soccer United Marketing; former US Menís National Team player and FOX Soccer commentator Eric Wynalda; and former womenís national team goalkeeper Hope Solo....

No doubt. And against teams that can actually shoot, that zone is going to give up some looks. Had to be done as both FSU and Syracuse exposed just how bad Louisville’s guards have been defending drivers from the perimeter, but it’s going to have downsides and fans will be frustrated down the stretch, I think.

One they had to have. Same goes for Sunday at Pitt. I imagine they’re going to experiment with the 2-3 zone they were running last night a bit more in that game.

Louisville City is also down in Bradenton. Donít play any official games down there though. OíConnor likes to use the time to bond the team with new players. There are a few trialists down there with them. The Purple Reign continues after they return to Louisville at the end of the month with a preseason game against Young Harris College.
