I'm having some trouble staying focused. Last day at work before I leave tomorrow morning for 10 days in Northern Michigan. It's going to be 70 degrees and sunny when I arrive tomorrow. Per the forecast, the 74 degrees on Saturday is expected to be as warm as it gets. This is some serious golf weather. And good lakeside reading weather. I'm ready to go.

Yeah it depends on when you were in school. The NCAA clamped down on schools really having to be within a certain Division in 1991. It wasn't made for the University of Dayton, but it feels like it was. UD won three Div. III football national championships between 1980 and 1991 (and made the championship game two other times) while having Division I basketball. In 1991, the NCAA said you couldn't do that anymore. They forced schools to fully...

Yeah it doesn't look great. This weather is something else. There's rain in the forecast for something like 9 of the next 10 days.

It's an exciting time for the school I'm sure, but the lack of a postseason during the transitional period puts a lot on those athletes. Do these folks have access to a free transfer within D-II during the transition? Are the transfer rules even the same within D-II?

There are some others. I know Centenary College in Louisiana used to be a Division 1 school until very recently; now they play in Division III. I think one or two of the HBCUs have moved recently as well. By the late 1970s, most schools on the fence had already just decided that cutting football was the best way to save money and keep the rest of their sports in Division 1. And the Johns Hopkins case isn't really "grandfathering". You're...

I used to live about three blocks from there along Norris Ave., which is the street that runs along the backside of the campus. It's a cool place in a great part of town. Has to be tough on students trying to find non-campus housing though. Housing can be unfortunately expensive in that part of town.

I wasn't very clear on this league and who was in it, but looking at this list, I can imagine Bellarmine and Lipscomb becoming a nice little rivalry very quickly if Bellarmine can continue to step up its game. Obviously it's a big part of WHY they're being brought up, but it's a shame Belmont isn't in this league anymore.

This move is being made primarily for basketball (and the continuation of their lacrosse program), but my understanding is that you aren't allowed to be Division 1 in basketball or football without being Division 1 in everything else.

Frustrating. Out-hit them and just couldn't string them together. And got as much as you could have realistically hoped from your pitching staff, holding that outstanding Vandy lineup to three runs. So it goes.

It was the NCAA VP of Regulatory Affairs. Told CBS yesterday that the six schools were dealing with eligibility issues. If that's the case, it's not Louisville this time. If that's not true, then Louisville could be among them. I definitely wouldn't put it past the NCAA to not know what they were talking about with regard to their own investigations.

There are no eligibility issues for the NCAA to review because he never played a single minute at UofL. There are only possible recruiting violations.

Very limited because it's not residential. The actual stadium site is an abandoned industrial area. Some of the surrounding areas have housing, but the "NuLu" area along Main and Market had already pressed into the Butchertown neighborhood before this project got going. Louisville's gentrification efforts have not been moving anywhere near the pace of Cincinnati's. I'm surprised there aren't more problems in Cincinnati given the rate at which...

Team president Brad Estes mentioned offhand in an interview last week that the league has told him that they're going to be able to take their pick of teams to open this thing up against. Now, there will undoubtedly be some trial runs with the stadium in the preseason, but I'll be genuinely curious to see who's actually playing in that first game. Gut tells me someone relatively local but that the front office thinks the team can beat....

It's a bidding process, done in compliance with USSF's rules about stadium and field conditions. That second part is what makes it tough on a lot of lower division teams that are just getting started. They tend to play on rented fields (many of them originally purposed for baseball) and so unless you have a secondary field worked out (like Louisville City does with UofL's soccer field), it can make it almost impossible to host. Cincinnati's...

The whole thing is a mess. The federal court trials have ended, during which federal prosecutors and the NCAA both asserted that the schools were victims of individual agents. Now the NCAA is turning around and issuing notices of violations to their victims.

Only two lower division sides made it out this week (which sounds about right given that MLS teams were overwhelmingly playing at home). St. Louis FC beat Chicago Fire 2-1 on Tuesday night. New Mexico United advanced on penalties over Colorado Rapids. NM tied up the game four minutes into stoppage time and then won the shootout 4-2.

Ugh. That was a penalty and everyone in the stadium saw it except for dork in the yellow shirt. Fair cop to Cincy. That game was almost dead even and Cincy made the big play when it counted in extra time. Can't figure out why our left back, Oscar Jimenez, has struggled so much in recent seasons, but he completely lost his man on the pass that led to the Adi goal in the first half. FCC takes this one 2-1 in extra time and moves on to the...

Per CBS, the NCAA VP for regulatory affairs stated that the six schools receiving notice would be "only those schools involved in eligibility issues", which could be taken to mean that Louisville is not included in this round as none of the Adidas mess actually affected eligibility, just other potential recruiting violations.

Another counterpoint... hasn't really been happy times around US Women's soccer lately. They've spent the better part of the last year bogged down in a lawsuit against their own federation over wages and conditions for players. They got out there and played. I don't blame them for anything.

This isn't slow-pitch softball. This is the World Cup. Everyone worked hard to be here. It's not football or basketball where you can put in the scrubs and then applaud them for working hard. There are no scrubs. These are the best 18 players in the US. You only get three substitutions and she used them all. The US had 73% possession and FORTY shots. Honestly, it's amazing they only scored 13. The only one you can really shake your head...

But I was also there for Chandler Hoffman's hat trick and the time Louisville walked out of...
