I take some solace in the fact that several of those guys played only because they were second or third in the depth chart and the guys ahead of them were injured. This squad has more depth than any I can remember (except at goalkeeper, strangely). The future is bright because of the other guys on the field or recently on it: Pulisic, Nagbe, Lletget, Villafaña, Morris, etc. I definitely think we're a better squad. With a real coach leading...

I always assume zero points from a game at Azteca. I'd be thrilled if these guys even got a draw down there.

June. Trinidad and Tobago at home and Mexico away. I expect three points there. September is when this thing will be won or lost: Costa Rica at home and away at Honduras. If September goes poorly, we should have six points worth of matches to finish this out in October: Trinidad away and Panama at home.

Agreed. Especially with that last spate of injuries and the questionable defensive group we trotted out there. Plenty of games left to grab all the points necessary to finish top three.

Just saying, Klinsmann would be getting blasted for putting this lineup out there.

I don't think that's what he was insinuating. More that it's the first off-the-field problem Strong has to deal with at USF. He hasn't messed around with this kind of stuff at his other stops and I don't think he'll mess around here.

Just looked up Dan Muller. He's coaching at his alma mater so it could take more money than UD is ready to pay. But he's done really well there and I'd be very happy with that hire. I'm not hugely excited about the rest of the potentials list.

I think ideology is more important than liberal/conservative. Even in business schools you'll get a lot of Democratic voters for various reasons, but they're more likely to be Clinton Democrats than Sanders Democrats.

When the patrons at Rick's Cafe start singing "La Marseillaise" and drown out the German officers. When the camera cuts to Madeleine LeBeau and she has tears rolling down her face as she belts it at the top of her lungs... I lose it every time. Instant goosebumps.

I think it depends on which departments you're in. Lots of liberals in the arts. A friend of mine from high school teaches a first year English class at a small liberal arts school in the Northeast. Definitely gears his freshman course to try and get people to read things from a different point of view. Lots of feminist or gender-based readings of texts. Stuff that would make several people on this site want to gouge their eyes out... that...

All well and good if you're studying first year chemistry, but how does that work in the study of literature or economics?

Because until about 40 years ago, it never was and we never really pretended that it was. Every city in America had a republican newspaper, a democratic newspaper, a Catholic newspaper, an abolitionist newspaper, a Prohibitionist newspaper, and so on, and so on. All people have biases. Any collection of people is going to be a collection of those biases. Even the most fundamental editorial decisions such as what stories to run at the top...

We can all stop pretending that media is supposed to be unbiased. It was a weird invention in the late 20th Century, mostly due to media consolidation buying up newspapers, radio, and TV stations in any one city and then trying to foist one single source as somehow the only necessary place to go for news.

Dayton's entire athletic budget is barely $20 million. The idea that they had the scratch to offer Archie top ten money is hilarious.

If UD paid that buyout, I'd be furious. No way we can be shelling that out. And you know SC will step up. Basketball coaching in the SEC is probably heading toward its all time best level because of that SEC Network money.

Thanks to home teams getting to sell their own TV rights, this one is on BeIN Sports channel. I don't have it because I don't get channel one million, but I'm looking for another way to get it.

The latest city to suffer the wrath of a league that thrives on public tax dollars. Vegas will shell out the hundreds of millions in public subsidy that Oakland refused. Pay your ransom or lose your team.

Pat Kelsey from Winthrop is the one that intrigues me most, but the fact that he had the UMass job then backed out at the last minute is strange story. Also still only half joking about wanting them to take a run at Tom Crean.

LCFC Chairman John Neace did an interview on the Soccer City Radio Show on 790 AM on Saturday. Said the team has secured purchase options on the property they want and are hoping to make an announcement that they've secured it completely before the Easter holiday. Also hinted something that I'm hoping is true: the public/private partnership this is bound to be looks more like a scenario in which the team will build the stadium but the city will...

Louisville dominates possession and chances but ends in a 0-0 draw with St. Louis. FC Cincinnati also has the better possession but drops their opener on the road at Charleston. Bit of an underwhelming start for the local pro teams.

Even a lot of the traditional powers are changing. Mexico had that same design of green shirt, white shorts, red socks for years and years. Wore solid black at the last World Cup. I'd love it if they got something consistent and at least stuck on a theme. I'm not holding my breath.

His greatest successes were as coach of a mid-sized, Midwestern Catholic school. Might be able to catch lightning in a bottle again. I can't think of a more desirable candidate at the moment but I'm sure the AD is looking to at least one assistant at a major program.
