I’ve tried giving the Cardinals the benefit of the doubt heading into each of the last two games. That’s over. Unless they seriously pick up some things on both sides of the ball, Cards aren’t going bowling.

I agree. The path to lots of wins is much easier playing in the Big 10 West than where either of the other two are playing.

Several of my friends read it 10-15 years ago in the years it first came out, but somehow I missed it. Eugenides is a heck of a writer. My girlfriend has a couple others of his that I hope to dive into in the near future.

The other guys being thrown around at the time include one currently floundering at Vandy and another who currently has Pitt looking no better. It’s easy to try and hindsight this one, but Petrino was in Louisville once and at Arkansas and he was known as an offensive mastermind and the QB guru. I don’t think that analysis from five years ago is any different. The question is: why isn’t it happening now?

I don’t think it was a panic hire at all. There was a coach available who had already won some big games — including an Orange Bowl — and Jurich jumped on it. There were always problem areas but things definitely seem to be going south all at once.

Pass started. Swapped for Cunningham pretty early in this one. Pass was hesitant in big situations and just seemed unready. Cunningham has some problems throwing but looked decent on his feet. I knew the offense would take a step back but this is ridiculous. Unquestionably the worst offense in Petrino’s coaching career.

There is a steadily falling level in all facets of the game that I can draw from the end of the Clemson game in 2016 to right now. Worse than I could have ever feared going into this year.

Somehow the defense is more embarrassing than the offense that’s only managed four yards so far.

Louisville City FC just signed St. Francis High School and University of Kentucky product Napo Matsoso. Just under the deadline for the roster freeze ahead of the playoffs. Will join DuPont Manual’s Richard Ballard as the second Louisville high school player to be signed to a professional contract for the hometown team. Congrats to him. Plays defensive midfield, a position of need in the system Coach Hackworth is trying to get going in...

Essentially impossible for anyone to catch FCC at this point. They're the top seed. Good sign for FCC fans: the top seed in the Eastern Conference has ultimately hoisted the USL Cup at the end of the playoffs for four years running.

I'm assuming Pass gets the start again. I'm also assuming we're going to see Cunningham again. That guy's legs gave a second-half boost to an offense that was really struggling to find any rhythm in that rainstorm.

This is a doozy of a schedule for a team that is completely remaking itself. Thursday, Nov. 8: Nicholls State, time/TV TBA Tuesday, Nov. 13: Southern (NIT Season Tip-Off), time/TV TBA Friday, Nov. 16: Vermont (NIT Season Tip-Off), time/TV TBA Wednesday, Nov. 21: Tennessee (in Brooklyn, N.Y.), 5 p.m., ESPN2 Friday, Nov. 23: Kansas or Marquette (in Brooklyn, N.Y.), time TBA, ESPN or ESPN2 Tuesday, Nov. 27: Michigan State (ACC/Big Ten...

The Hilltoppers visit Cardinal Stadium Saturday at 7:30 pm. This doesn't appear to be the WKU teams that knocked off Kentucky a couple times in recent seasons, but UofL hardly impressed in its first two games. Who wins and why? What do you expect to see?

What a mess that was. I've never really stood outside with hurricane-level rainfall, so that was something. It was impossible to keep dry. I was wearing a waterproof suit and it still got in. My shoes are still wet. Louisville's defense has been miserable the last couple weeks as Hackworth moved to a four-man back but plays two outside backs that like to get forward. Got caught out again in the first half Saturday to go behind. It was...

I was talking about it with my girlfriend last night. I'm 34 years old. Sept. 11 is essentially the middle point of my life now. And I've lived my entire adult life in its shadow. By the time I graduated in high school in May of 2002, we had been in Afghanistan for 7 or 8 months. Anyone I knew that enlisted or joined ROTC, or went to one of the service academies knew with almost 100% certainty that they were signing up to get shipped off to...

At some point it just becomes historical fact. I'm sure my grandparents still see something like Pearl Harbor in a way I don't and would never be able to. The relative recency of 9/11 means it impacts the world we live in now more than something like Pearl Harbor though. Heck, my brother is 7 years younger than me and I'm supremely confident he has a VERY different memory of all it at age 10 than I do from age 17.

No doubt about that. Despite the fact that I really do think that program should be better, I find it hard to drum up much sympathy for their directionlessness after getting off scot-free for decades of fake academics in their athletic program. They deserve any number of poor seasons while Larry Fedora spews nonsensical platitudes.

Oh they’ve got some holes, for sure. But they’ve played Bama and played in a very equalizing monsoon. Reminded me of the 2012 game at Southern Miss. If they struggle like this in clear weather against a pretty mediocre WKU squad, I’ll know something’s up. And not being very good is relative. I think we both thought UofL was headed for a barely .500 record this season anyway. The ACC has hardly covered itself in glory during the opening...

I honestly thought this game would never end. Three weather delays totaling 2 1/2 hours. Kicked off at 7 pm, ended just after 12:30 am. Iíd love to have lots more to say but Iím tired. Malik Cunningham entered the game at QB after halftime and saved Louisvilleís bacon. Seeing 355-pound Mechi Becton jump over the scrum to score a touchdown is a season highlight. I hope Dorian Etheridge isnít seriously injured. After Greenard last...

I’m a college guy for the exact same reason. I sort of like the Vikings enough but that’s a carryover from when I was a kid and my lack of connections to Minnesota anymore means I just don’t really care. And in the end, I tend to prefer sports in-person to on TV, so when living in Louisville, I can go see college sports right down the road... that calculus isn’t about to change significantly for me I suppose.

The most famous “trick plays” in history were invented by some of the most legendarily creative and innovative coaches in the history of the game. Amos Alonzo Stagg invented the Statue of Liberty Play. The hidden ball trick was devised by John Heisman. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. A good play is a good play.

Last week, Louisville tried to beat Bama with 12 players. Last year, Kentucky tried to beat Florida with 10. We’re all doomed and we should get new hobbies. Gators roll.
