Oh geez. Made the mistake of pointing out on Twitter that the "no taxpayer dollars for stadium construction" is immediately undermined by the fact that the city is securing the financing for buying the property. Getting blasted.

I like this one a lot more than the silly deal they signed to get that Omni Hotel built. City and state jointly on the hook for over $100 million on that one. Let's hope the TIF projections are more accurate down on Second and Ali than they were at Second and Main.

It's not my favorite deal in the world, but the city has put itself on the hook for a lot more pointless non-sports development deals in the past so... improvement?

Press conference announcing that the financing for this deal is now in place. Private investment group is going to pony up $200 million for the project and the city is going to take on $30 million to secure and clean up the property, half of which is to be paid back. Here's a fact sheet they were distributing at the presser:

D Scorigami is the most interesting thing about the NFL. There was a week one game that was going to be one until a garbage time touchdown that ruined it.

Actually had this answered for me at a game not long ago. Threefold answer: 1) On a warm day, it reduces surface temperature. 2) A slicker surface helps reduce skin abrasions and occasions where a cleat getting stuck can cause ankle or knee injuries. 3) It actually helps the little rubber pellets settle. Between that and any water that sticks to the grass, the reduced friction helps the ball pass faster and truer and so players prefer...

NASL has sued the governing body of US Soccer under federal antitrust laws. They allege, among other things, that US Soccer has sought to promote MLS and USL at the expense of NASL and that US Soccer's financial interests in MLS have created a warped and anti-competitive marketplace. NASL files federal antitrust lawsuit against U.S. Soccer | Goal.com This will be interesting to follow, but I don't expect it to go anywhere right now. But...

It's easy to forget that by the standards of C-USA and the old Big East, Louisville had some defenses from 2004-2006 that could absolutely shut teams down. Sure, powerhouses like WVU could score 30 on occasion, but most weeks, the rest of the league was struggling for one touchdown. It was those teams that sent William Gay, Amobi Okoye, and Elvis Dumervil, among others, to the NFL.

It's part of what makes the ACC's completely arbitrary divisional structure so frustrating. Clemson and FSU are a recruiting and coaching step well above Louisville. And we're just stuck with them. We're having better recruiting years than we've ever had before and still just so far behind.

Still slowly processing the waking nightmare I sat through last night. I knew Clemson's defensive line would more than hold their own, but the degree to which Jackson looked absolutely pedestrian under their pressure was startling. The 317 total yards passing belies a 50% completion rate. Especially early in the game, he couldn't help himself, putting several passes behind receivers and putting at least one at a receiver's feet. Reached its...

FSU turned being in this same situation into an Orange Bowl win last year. They have what should be two fairly easy wins in Kent State and Murray State to figure out what kind of team they want to be before heading back into the heart of the ACC schedule...

When Jackson is off, the offense is very poor. With Alexander out, the secondary is very poor. I was prepared for both of those. I was less prepared for Clemson's offensive line to open up holes big enough to drive a truck through and allow their running game to just eat yards all night long. Ugh.

Lamar threw behind his receiver about five times that half. Killed at least two drives. He's not doing well at all.

The real problem is that you can't roll it into your tailgating. They aren't opening the stadium lots until 2 pm so you'd have to go down, sit through gameday, go somewhere else for two hours, and only then go tailgate. Made going to the office a really easy choice this morning.

As a coach, it's pretty tough to argue against the level of success Bob Beatty has had in his time. But my favorite will always be Chuck Servino. He was the coach when I started at Trinity and as a teacher and a member of the community, Trinity couldn't have had a better man. He was a great man and better than we or anyone could have ever deserved.

That Indians streak is something else. Twins are three games up on the Angels for a Wild Card spot and having their best season in almost a decade. During this streak they've gone from being about 4-6 games behind the Indians as they were for most of a June and July to being about 14 games out of the top of the division. Unreal.

I don't watch SportsCenter but it isn't because of politics, it's because the internet allows me to tailor my viewing experience to the things I'm interested in. "Hey did you want to watch the Chargers/Raiders highlights?" No! Maybe I want baseball, so I can open up my browser and find in-depth Twins coverage with almost no effort. The internet was reshaping ESPN long before any of this stuff blew up and, to my mind, their forays into...
