US Soccer’s website says it’s in Cincinnati and will take place at UC’s soccer stadium, not at Nippert. Don’t know if that could change.

This is the 105th US Open Cup, making it one of the oldest club soccer competitions in the world. I love this tournament. It was better when NASL was around and so there were more levels to it, and there are things they could do to make it better, but it’s still a really great event. When tiny Christos FC from Baltimore scored to take an early 1-0 lead last season, I’ve never heard a noise quite like it. Really great to see a few minnows do...

Draw held earlier this afternoon. Amateur divisions, semipro divisions and professional Division II (USL) teams will be entered by the second round. Of local interest: Louisville City FC will play the winner of the first round game between Kingston Stockade FC (NPSL) and Long Island Rough Riders (PDL). FC Cincinnati will play either Detroit City FC (NPSL) or Michigan Bucks (PDL).

First thought is that even though it’s two days later, if I’m one of the connections of Enticed, I’m still not sleeping well. Velasquez and Vino Rosso bumped that horse pretty good multiple times down the stretch and I really thought they’d take Rosso down a line. But Enticed is still on track for Churchill, so maybe it’s just a bump in the road. Justify looks great and at this point looks like one that will definitely figure in to Derby...

Didn’t realize until looking at that map that the stadium site is just two blocks from Music Hall and the heart of the gentrified sections of Over the Rhine. And you thought parking on Saturdays was bad down there before...

Also says as much about how much things have changed in New York in recent decades as it does about London. 20 years ago those numbers would have been unimaginable in NYC. Lowest rate of homicides since before WWII.

My favorite prep weekend is almost upon us. Wood Memorial, Blue Grass Stakes and the Santa Anita Derby will all run in the span of about 90 mins on Saturday. All three races will be on NBC Sports Network.

The Dirty River Derby is BACK! First of at least three games this season is Saturday evening at Nippert. Another game in Cincinnati on May 26 followed by a game in Louisville over the summer. Doesnít include possible US Open Cup or playoff meetings. Lou City and FCC are both unbeaten thus far. Itís FCCís home opener. Lou City are the reigning champions. Should be a great one. Im calling a 1-1 draw for the first game. FCC snags one...

Never. But I rarely go anywhere but the grocery store that has grid parking. Downtown parking tends to be angled and I parallel park on the street a lot.

Neeli Bendapudi, currently the Vice Chancellor and Provost at Kansas, becomes the 18th president of the University of Louisville. An agonizingly long search is over and I’m just happy to have someone in the seat. She’s from outside the state, which is something I wanted, and has no prior affiliation with UofL, which is also something I wanted. Calling my shot now: within the month, Interim President Greg Postel will be announced as dean of...

I still listen to Alice In Chains all the time. Listened to Dirt the whole way through while cleaning my apartment last weekend. I really love that album.

The guy started his tenure at Nova with three consecutive NIT appearances. How many folks up there were ready to run him out on a rail at that point? Says a lot for continuity and knowing what you’re building. And to be sure, no one can lay claim to the “Won the Realignment Cup” honor like Wright. They were really struggling the last few years before the football schools split from the league. Now they’ve won the Big East four of the five...

If it sounds too crazy to be true, it is. Wright coached Villanova to the Elite 8 in 2006 and the Final Four in 2009.

I’d like to hear some more return before I check it out on demand wherever it’s going. I like the play well enough so I’m curious but so many of these network musicals in the last couple years have just been dull. And I worry about Legend as Jesus. That role requires such a powerful voice and I just don’t see Legend in that role at all. How can his voice which, quite frankly, usually doesn’t do much for me, hit those notes? Will he even...

This has been a supremely successful strategy for Xavier in recent searches. I think they’ll find big success continues with Steele at the helm.

Because jobs are different. Itís an incentive. Both to get teachers not to use all their allotted sick leave and instead come to work while banking that leave and as a retirement benefit that incentivizes hiring and retention.

Still going through this but hereís what Iím seeing so far: - End of accumulated sick leave, which was a big way to boost retirement packages - End of cost of living adjustments for new hires into the system beginning in 2019 - End of State life insurance benefit for retirees beginning in 2019 - End of death benefit for retired teachers retroactive to teachers who retired in 2014 or layer

Solid opening press conference. I’ve liked him for a long time and couldn’t be more excited he’s our guy. Wish him all the best.
