FCC’s propensity to slog through a game and then continually get the winner late is a testament to the bench they’ve built. The first couple years, FCC was good at spending money, but not at spending it well. This year they’ve spent even more money and spent it on pieces that work really well together. It’s going to take a really special effort from a team — and probably getting on the end of a mistake or two by Cincy — for anyone else to win...

Louisville clinched a playoff spot last night. Beat Ottawa 4-0. Still battling with Pittsburgh and Charleston for the No. 2 seed. It’s going to be a battle down the stretch for those positions with home games.

Petrino’s buyout numbers are floating around a lot on Twitter this afternoon. Saddling the athletic department with that contract extension in 2016 has turned out to be the Jurich family’s final middle finger to the University of Louisville. Nearly $13 million until 2022. :lol2:

Even in a bad league, Louisville is a bad team. :lol2: Oh man, things in the football program are ROUGH.

I honestly don’t know. I couldn’t say if it’s complacency or his miserable temperament behind why the coaching staff is full of his entire family. By the numbers, Louisville is recruiting at a higher level than ever, though that’s probably going to come to and once the Lamar shine wears off and we’re recruiting off this dud of a season. I worry he just doesn’t have confidence right now and he’s panicked and has started just throwing stuff...

Purdue was the best 0-3 team in the country before today. They might still be the best 1-3 team after. Wouldn’t want to run into Purdue as this season goes on.

I still stand by the idea that Bobby was the best available coach within Louisville’s ability to hire at the time. But this creature we’re seeing now? This isn’t him. I want the guy who coached Louisville and Arkansas last decade and made every QB who played for him into a star. Where’s that guy?

So how ‘bout that David Johnson recommitment, eh? Mack’s got four top 100 players in his first recruiting class. Currently No. 3 in the country. So that’s less depressing.

I can’t believe I thought this team could go 7-5. I’m stunned by how bad they are in every single aspect offensively. Crazy thing is, I’m not even mad at this defense. They’ve done ok considering they’ve been behind the 8-ball all day. It’s our “quarterback guru” wearing the headset that’s been the absolute killer today.

Our penance is not yet complete. Here I was thinking that the downfall of Jurich and Pitino was the price we had to pay for our hubris in the wake of 2012/13... we had only just begun.

I was prepared for games like the BC matchup last year when the Cards lost 45-42. That’s just life. But Petrino isn’t getting paid all that money for zero first half touchdowns through three games. These are all his players and all his plays. It’s embarassing how not good at his job he is right now.

Third and four and he goes bubble to the great big halfback. I don’t know what Petrino’s doing anymore.

We’re already at a point where I’m genuinely dreading what’s going to happen today between 12:30 and 4:30... or maybe 7:00? How long do college games take these days? But short of losing the remainder of his games, lashing out at the AD and the university president, and getting into another scandal, I don’t think anything sends Petrino packing this season. First, he’s won 8 games or more in all his other seasons here and I can’t fault him for...

I’ve tried giving the Cardinals the benefit of the doubt heading into each of the last two games. That’s over. Unless they seriously pick up some things on both sides of the ball, Cards aren’t going bowling.

I agree. The path to lots of wins is much easier playing in the Big 10 West than where either of the other two are playing.

The other guys being thrown around at the time include one currently floundering at Vandy and another who currently has Pitt looking no better. It’s easy to try and hindsight this one, but Petrino was in Louisville once and at Arkansas and he was known as an offensive mastermind and the QB guru. I don’t think that analysis from five years ago is any different. The question is: why isn’t it happening now?

I don’t think it was a panic hire at all. There was a coach available who had already won some big games — including an Orange Bowl — and Jurich jumped on it. There were always problem areas but things definitely seem to be going south all at once.

Pass started. Swapped for Cunningham pretty early in this one. Pass was hesitant in big situations and just seemed unready. Cunningham has some problems throwing but looked decent on his feet. I knew the offense would take a step back but this is ridiculous. Unquestionably the worst offense in Petrino’s coaching career.

There is a steadily falling level in all facets of the game that I can draw from the end of the Clemson game in 2016 to right now. Worse than I could have ever feared going into this year.

Louisville City FC just signed St. Francis High School and University of Kentucky product Napo Matsoso. Just under the deadline for the roster freeze ahead of the playoffs. Will join DuPont Manual’s Richard Ballard as the second Louisville high school player to be signed to a professional contract for the hometown team. Congrats to him. Plays defensive midfield, a position of need in the system Coach Hackworth is trying to get going in...
